so you know, this part of the concert takes place in front of and inside the Hofburg, the Imperial Palace in the center of the city and primary residence of the Habsburgs. The ballroom featured here is not the grand ballroom, but one of the many other spectacular rooms used during the balls. This Quadrille is in fact performed as well, usually at midnight, though it is played MUCH faster than this- and with hundreds of people.  It is something to be experienced, I can tell you <3

It's interesting that many dance forms especially set dances like this one, resemble dances from other countries. This quadrille is almost like a more sedate walking version of some Scottish country dances. All great to watch :)

I've only learned the second quadrille

@ompfafa Yes and then it becomes faster and faster and then, if you aren't a practised Quadrille dancer you just can't follow the steps anymore. I know what I'm talking about ... the first times of the faster part were horrible but it got better in time. :-)

It is a special quote for the "Fledermaus Quadrille" or "Mitternachtsquadrille" (Midnight Quadrille) as it is usually called and takes place at - oh wunder - at midnight. Normally women go infront of men, it's only at the Quadrille that men go before women. Then there is this special quote which is a ryhme in German but in English it literally means:

Don't blame me for the translation but I don't know if there is an English one but I think it lasts for the understanding ;-)
