what is interesting is that the ones who criticise this drill cant even perform it on the basic level much less the alledged "real world" knife skills that they say would nullify every tapping drill ever performed.i wish i had knowledge of this tapping drill when me and my two friends were fighting off five guys (two had bottles and i had the misfortune of fighting empty hand vs. a knife). i didnt get slashed but knicked a couple of times. my footwork (forward "V") saved me. excellent video!
Amazing , vibrant and great flow of energy.Good job guys! and for wtfronsson .First thing that i have learned in my years of martial arts practice is the ability to release the negative energy in my mind and the ability to appreciate good actions from other people.Try an introductory class and you will see what i mean.Once you immerse yourself in training you might even say ......its very spiritual.Live and learn my friend.
looks sort of silly. i think if i was wielding the knife and _really thrusted_ those techniques would make very little difference on the outcome. seems the knife guy is complying too much. that does not seem a good way to practice defending your life.
@Elhananm you are right, I dont understand. I just thought the knife guy would never be that easy in real life so whats the point of training easy. but after giving it a thought I sort of understand this "flow practice". I guess it would be important to do this against many different types of people, and not just one guy. liking the video.
Indeed, in order to develop good Flow skill and adhesive skill one should train with as many as possible different people.
Each person moves different, strikes different etc. a Although the principles are stay the same, we should develop skill to flow with different types of contact, this comes only with experience.
I couldnt help but voice my opinion. As someone whos been training in Kali for a couple years now, I have at least scratched the surface of it. As far as knife tapping goes (as seen in the video), this is a drill, but you have to agree that their is reason to the drill other than skill, there are definite applications to a knife confrontation. Its hard for some to understand that as they havent seen it before. You arent gonna knife tap the guy all day of course. Prob. for 1-3 beats
@flattop44sc Yeah gun beats knife - provided your already aiming a loaded and made ready weapon at the knife guy from a distance of at least 22 feet. If you answer "no" to any of those criteria..... you and your gun (and your Femoral and Brachial arteries) are gonna have a real bad day
This is the dumbest shit ever.Watch an old film,"surving edged weapons", that crap is hollywood.Knife fighting is messy, bloody and both usually come out losers
Though I'm really like good and correct criticism, your does not meet these standards nor relevant to what is shown on the clip.
What is shown in the clip is a way of training flow and action-reaction skills, nothing at the above drill is a set form/drill...there fore all that you see is a free flow drill dressed on the basic knife tapping and hubad.
What accures in a knife fight is a block/pass and counter with one or both hands.
How you do it doesn't matter, most of these videos show a committeed individual either extending or over extending to start the attack or drill. That extentsion is some times not realistic. The short choppy cuts and stabs are realistic because is someone was to kill you they would have a large possiblity of doing it and you not know it.
This is actually the first youtube video I've downloaded a few years ago! It's been 3 years and I'm still watching it! Hanan and Yosi are the real deal! Keep it up, brothers! Thank you for keeping the Filipino Defense Arts alive! Greetings from Rapido Realismo Kali Philippines!
It's very populistic saying that is good for marketing but oriven in correct in reality.
Do you train with life blades, cause you fight with live blades?
When you do basic movments slow or in different veriations do you do the same in a fight.
Training is to gain usefull skill so you will be able to execute techniques in a fight. You never fight like you train...it's a fentasy! I really admire those that are fighting exectly as they train- if there are anywhere those who can do it..
@Elhananm I agree with you 100%. NOBODY trains the way they fight. Well, some actually do, but that's plain stupid. When Marines train, do they shoot at each other with real bullets? Of course not. When they practice hand-to-hand combat, do they go at it with real knives? Of course not. Even when the Dog Brothers spar, they use fencing masks and hockey gloves, and they hold a little back. To fight without a fencing mask would be VERY realistic, but it would also be very stupid.
VERY GOOD TO SEE YOU ARE PRACTICING FCS..why did you have to say anything against KALI in your other video when you are already interested in it..OK KID GOOD WORK IN PROMOTING FMA,
KRAV + KALI= THE MOST EFFECTIVE/PRACTICAL FIGHTING ART
Pause at 40 sec and observe the terrible vulnerability in this drill. This gaping, unprotected whole is repeated by all the imitators. Can you imagine how many thousands of people would die in a real situation due to the fact that they have rehearsed this mistake countless times? So sad.
I understand that your point is that there is comparison between the knife tapping drill and the exercise for c-clamping and countering when someone tries to cut you when you are caught holding their wrist. They are apples and oranges. Yours is a complete drill. Mine is an exercise isolating a specific circumstance that often occurs in a knife fight.
I just wanted to emphasys to you that its very easy to critisize techniques while pauseing a clip and take it our of the overall context of the specific application.
And no I'm not agree that you fight like you train....
Sometime we train in certain way to gain specific skill or feel of techniques/principles that later on will serve us as we gain deeper understanding of what we do.
Your elbows are up in the air. The ribs are exposed. It is a straight shot for anyone who knows the origin of this drill to stick you hard! Sadly it is a confused interpretation of the original drill that everyone is practicing, and the few who know the true practice won't post it, because this material is not for the masses. CONSIDER HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE WATCHING!! This is too much information for people who have the wrong intentions. Not trying to upset you...but protect you...and others!
The pause was to emphasize one point in the drill that the mistake is made in motion. The way you are doing the drill, the only way anyone would not get cut is if they agree not to stab you in the ribs. This discussion has proven to fall on deaf ears. Good luck!
You say it's ok to pause a clip ( mine in this case) and shoe the week points of getting cut.
But when I pause you clip named : "Austin, TX Kali-Silat Knife Drills" on sec 11 and show that your foe can kick you in the head while you this rediculus bending, you say that I'm not right?
You right on one thing:
It's indeed fall on your deaf ears, but we do agree on something which is: That we don't agree at all/
of course Kali is about flow, but this weakness in the way you drill is so easy to take advantage of that the most inexperienced knife fighter will easily kill someone doing this! THEY WON'T NEED YOU TO 'PAUSE' IN ORDER TO DO THIS! It's just wide open lungs and livers and intestines and gooey goodness.
Who mentioned anything about sparring? The bottom line is that you fight the way you practice, and this way of practice will lead to dead practitioners.
Using the early hand to initially engage the attackers blade hand is the watered down version. Watered down to offer beginner students until they prove themselves trustworthy.
Removing the knife wielder's tapping hand with your right hand and right elbow in the air is the invention that concerns me the most. The knife can taste lungs!

Obviously you don't understand what's going on on this clip.
This is a DRILL it is by NO MEANS a fight nor sparring training.
This is knife tapping and Hunbad drill for training flow and sensitivity, this drill is only for skill development.

Part 1:
Dear Jason,
While we at CFMA always happy to recive any critique I must object to your due to few reasons:
1. While pousing the clip is taking a move out of context, in this case it's flow, in Kali we never stop we flow, you should know that.
2. Pousing in any given transition state of the move will make it look vulnerable.
3. In sec 40 I see a check on the knife, I don't know what you see, are we watching the same clip?
continue at part 2:
Elhananm 1 year ago
Part 2:
4. I just watched the clip on your channel please pouse at sec 11.
If this is not a terrible vulnerability than I don't know what is.
Always a pleasure to discuss martial arts with fellow prectitioners.
Best regards
Hanan

This drill as practiced in the clip is a flow and sensetivity drill, to gain skill.
Note that there are no pubches, kicks locks etc.

However in recent years people in the UDF and in other security forces and units understod that it's not enough and started to integrate different material such as Filipino Martial Arts.

That's what I and my partner try to do here in Israel, to create an awearness to theses systems in the realistic world.
The is no connection between CFMA and Krav Maga, but we do instruct our material to Krav Maga guys or others that are interested

there is little (or less) skill involved in krav maga. KG is like self-defense crashcourse 101
