Springsteen played this for the first time on May 9, 1974 when he opened for Bonnie Raitt at Harvard Square. Rock critic Jon Landau was at the show and wrote in Boston's Real Paper: "I saw rock and roll's future - and its name is Bruce Springsteen." Landau eventually became Springsteen's manager.
Thanks for posting this great Bruce Springsteen classic. The sheet music for Roy Bittan's wonderful piano part on "Born To Run" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.
I stumbled on to these video's at the Capitol Theater I went to many of these show's and ended up buying the place in 1989 after I had become owner of a large construction co. Turned it into a mini shopping mall. Had a bachelor party for my kid brother with the kielbasa queen and marcy the snake women. It was outrageous.
If they hadn't used the dinosaurs cameras there would be no footage of this vintage performance and that would have been a great loss.Thank God for Dinosaurs!
I saw Southside Johnny at the Capitol Theater in passaic in the late 70s with my future wife and some friends. It was a new years eve show and after the show as the crowd was leaving those of us who were still there were happily surprised when Bruce came out onto the stage and got Southside out again to jam. I remember he was almost falling off the stage. I was in the same shape. Southside was holding him up. A good time was had. Does anyone else remember this show.

of course they did. It's called "sarcasm". The Zapruder film, which I referenced, was taken on November 22, 1963, so obviously they had color film in '78. Again, sarcasm.
Did YOU see Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band at The Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ on

type in "bruceshitshimself" and there's a clip of Bruce (Amsterdam, 1977) belting out the chorus of 10th Avenue Freezeout when he shits himself at the far end of the stage. Clarence calls him a "nasty-ass cracka" and walks off stage. Awesome.
i got goosebumps. when i saw him in chicago on 10-21-07, it was amazing. this song is poetry. this performance is amazing, omg. thank you so much for posting this. were you actually there?
on rolling stone magazine? i thought it was rated 5 stars.. he has a number of them rated 5 stars: born to run, darkness on the edge of town, born in the usa, tunnel of love, the rising, and now magic.. i can't remember if nebraska was rated 5 stars.
Can't we all just get along? Passaic is still in New Jersey, I think. Just enjoy this rare footage of a great song. I have this on a bootleg record, I wish I was there.
How is it ignorant? Passaic simply isn't the jersey shore. Factorys and the turnpike aren't beaches and seagulls. Also, Murder City Riot is a song (Chicago is nicknamed Murder City)
There is not one factory in the city of Passaic, Additonally, the turnpike is no where near the city of Passaic. However, your ignorant reference was to keeping people like "this" out of the shore.
Therefor, use the proper prepositions:
'at' or 'near' or on the shore, this is 1st grade grammar. Again, your reference was to people is why I took the tone that I did. Read, Know, then speak.
Imet him twice purely by standing around once in 77 at a Patti Smith show in Manhattan at the CBGB's theatre where he was in the aisle like everyone else and again in the mens room in Tarrytown NY at a John Prine show in 88, he's a really great guy and friendly as anyone...
A musician friend of mine, Danny Quinn, opened up for John Prine that night, and when he met Bruce backstage (before Bruce came out) he was thrilled to say the least! Bruce asked him if he could borrow his guitar to loosen up with a bit. I get all this on my answering machine at 4 AM! I had my own gig that night so again, couldn't attend one of these shows when incredible moments like this occur!
THat is a mind blower shadya, I love that little venue and savor the moments of the 70's in general like that. He's really a great guy and guess what that was nearly 30 yrs ago, help? Are you from Westchester? I am Somers...peace in the deserts now!

Even the Zapruder film was in color.

i hear the new album is really REALLY good. rollingstone gave it 4 stars which i rare since they mostly rate everything 3 1/2.
i think last time i read a 5 star review was for bob dylan's modern times album and sonic youth's last album called rather ripped.

Outstanding performance by Bruce and the boys. Rock and roll the way it was meant to be: raw, passionate and visceral.
