The tradition says to suck the blood and spit it out, because the human saliva has healing qualities. Anyway today the thing is largely irrelevant due to medical advances and thus canceled in most jewish societies. Mortality within jewish infants is the same as other developed societies in the west and the east.

Goy means "nation" in Hebrew. Any nation including jews, who are referred in jewish literature as goy gadol.

Now according to common use, dictionaries and even jewish lexicons, not to mention use of the word in the Talmud, "goy" means "nonjew" either as nation or by persona.
