the truth is the 6 senates need more time because while they were testing a new, fresh, out of the box brand of dildo made in europe, it got stuck in and they can't get it out....i only wonder which one of them has it stuck up the ass....
I just wonder why they let you use a computer with internet access in your mental health hospital... Usually, crazy people are not allowed to communicate with the outside world...
Of course we need to take our time and get this right. The stimulus bill was rushed through, did little or no good and will be paid for by my great great grandchildren. This guy is an obnoxious ass clown !
This talking head from TYT finds it surprising that these Senators are running away from this bill. Wake up, the majority of Americans DO NOT want this to happen. They want to be re-elected above all else, and they are not looking to follow their Dear Leader over the cliff.
I think we should have competent lawyers provided for all Americans for free. Ohhh I see Mr hypocritical lawyer talking head. Dr's can be for free but not lawyers?????
It's funny only 2 of the 6 people on your list (Mary Landrieu, Susan Collins) have been paid by healtcare lobbyists, or clients. The other 4 are strangely not in the top 60 congressmen on their payroll. Just because you're against the public option doesn't mean you're for the corporations.
the quality of our healthcare now is horrible for the average american. The system we have now only works as long as you dont get sick. if you remain healthy and continue to pay huge premiums to already rich insurance companies then you have great healthcare. if you get sick, you get denied and you get dropped. so basically, we have healthcare only for minor ailments and checkups...if you ever really need healthcare, YOU HAVE NONE!!
MARXISTS? really....Obama is marxist? the republicans have become the defenders and public lobbyists for corporate america. these rich greedy CEO's are selling america out for profits. They will take our jobs, deny us healthcare, fight against min. wage or unemployment or disability pay or anything else that will help americans so they can continue to accrue enormous amounts of profits that end up costing all US citizens who are now paying with their lives. Republicans are crooks and killers
Corporatists -- you mean the ones in bed with the insurance companies who WANT government health care so they can have easy money taken from us at the point of a gun while the quality is declining or denied? Pffffffffffffffffft!!! LOL Insurance companies are WITH The OBUMMER.
Mindless right wing ditto speak. You should try thinking for yourself instead of letting Fox news think for you. And don't worry, you're not smart enough to be like people in Europe. They sit back and laugh, some super power, don't even supply health care to all it's citizens.
Hey, can't wait for the 2010 elections. You're going to end up somewhere back behind the Green party. Just keep waving those signs with all that phony patriot talk. Hell, you don't know the meaning of the word.
Europe will go broke because of it, and we are laughing at them! 2010...the newest polls show that the democrates lose the house! LOSE IT! Not just lose seats, but lose the whole house! You are not with the American people on this issue...and you still want this ramned through just like the other liberals want. Try it...just try it.
Too much koolaid Cal. As usual the right never gets the facts straight. We spend twice as much as anyone else on healthcare. So we'll go broke twice as fast as Europe while they live longer. Your comment is the perfect example of why youll never win the house again. Anybody with a brain is tired of the lies and deception peddled ever day by the likes of Rush, Hannity, Beck and Fox News. So keep listening to that BS and keep on dreaming of how it used to be. Them days gone for good. Thanks Cal.
If we go broke, Im ok with that...at least we produce the best medicenes on earth thhanks to the expense of our system. But Obama doesnt care if we go broke, I mean he just spent TRILLIONS on bailouts, money we dont even have.
Sorry, you will lose, and lose in a bad way. Same goes on the immigration debate in Janurary...you will lose BIG on that. Prepare to see a new speaker of the house in 2010, now all of the polls say it is probebal.
I do not agree with the bailouts either Cal, just stealing in plain sight and both parties guilty here as usual. There are many ways to guarantee health care for your citizens but there is little or no discussions on how we should to do it. Theres just this bill. Europe will not go broke due to health care costs. Theyve had their many different systems in place for decades, they work fine. I vote independent so I don't know what I'll do in 2010. But you back people like Palin you're doomed.
That's funny Al, because Fox News is beating the hell out of all the other networks and is picking up massive market share.
So, are you really happy with the direction this country is headed? Do you side with the committed marxists advising the president. I'm sure you would love the state-run media that the new FCC diversity officer wants. What do you think of a civilian security force with the same power as the military?
Fox News is a sham. They play to peoples fears. And fear mongering is popular in most societies.
What you miss is that both sides of our two party system are corrupted by corporate dollars. They play one side against the other but the direction the country is heading has been unchanged for decades. Civilian security forces made huge gains under Bush and are unchanged under Obama. Wars started by Bush are still fought under Obama. Mass media is corporate run, it's content managed. It's a game.
Sorry, that's not how it was designed or intended to operate. Historically weve always had multiple political parties, not just two. The Republican party of today only came into existence in 1854. All your comment shows is that you know little of our own history and have no manners. Don't you know when you call people names it removes all doubt in the minds of all who read it that youre just a dumb ass.
Let this be a lesson to you libs..this country wants freedom, not tyranny. We know more power to the goverment means less freedom for us. We dont want to be like Europe.
Your going to lose in 2010. The upcoming immigration issue will seal it. You will see similar town hall action for thst issue. You libs seem to not listen to the people..you ignore what we want. We just want a pres who will keep us out of war, and thats pretty much it. We dont want these social changes.
And pay for everyone elses heath? Including all the immigrants, both legal and non legal? To hell with that. We will end up paying for every brown third worlder.
You always back your own players...even if you disagree with them on a big issue like the war...since you cannot stop the war (with the GOP in charge back then), then dont abandon them...you still back them. And you certainly dont bad mouth them if you do go against them...that stuff comes back on you.
Who is this bozo? If he has such a clear lack of understanding of this issue, why does he disparage those who do? This is clearly a bad idea for America.
Countries with national health care live longer that we do. They have lower infant mortality rates than we do. They don't ever go bankrupt due to medical expenses. They don't ever get denied treatment due to preexisting conditions. They all get coverage even when they're really sick and they need it most. It makes their business community more competitive. Google to verify. You want to pay for health insurance, fine. Everyone should have the choice to choose a public option if they want to.
You won't here the dems breath a word of truth because power is the cure. They want to control the masses, Teddy Roosevelt first proposed national health insurance in 1912, FDR proposed it again in the 1930s. Harry Truman proposed it again in the 1940s. They've been waiting along time for this progressive power holy grail issue, healthcare is the way to pure Socialism, Reagan was warning of this as far back as the 60s. Oh, let's not forget Hillarycare.
Health care reform in Washington today isn't about health, or reform. It's about mandating monopoly-priced western medicine for the masses. It's about fining people who wisely opt out of the criminally-operated health insurance industry, and it's designed to keep the American people sick and diseased while emptying their pockets of any remaining earnings they might have somehow squirreled away during the ongoing financial / real estate crash.
The US has the LOWEST tax take as a percentage of GDP in the WORLD, and yet they have HALF global military budget. No wonder they cant afford universal healthcare.
You know, it's really sad when politicians are elected based on the hope they've given people and the trust they receive, and completely do the opposite morally and legislatively of what they said. It makes me sick to see these so-called "centrist" senators put aside the best intrests of the American people and become merely pawns of corporations. It's obvious with most Republicans (sadly), but with Snowe, Collins, and those Dems it is really shocking. They should be voted out of office ASAP.
as someone from Nebraska I have meet Ben Nelson many times he is a great guy and someone I would have a beer with but only a fool would think he is not a Republican there is no way a true Democrat would win here
Whether or not I agree with Cenk about H.C. reform he obviously did not go to the Walter Cronkite school of journalism when he critizes anchors for not calling senators liers one way or the other... Broadcast anchors are suppose to report news OBJECTIVELY not SUBJECTIVELY, if they wanna "blog it out" on their own time or they're an investigative journalist who is doing an expose then sure they can attack from an angle but they are not so he should remember that while he's hurling attacks
" You think any of the anchors are gonna tell you that these people are full of crap?, that's what their press release said so i'm reporting it"
THIS is exactly my problem with the mainstream media everywhere. They report BULLSHIT to us as though we are idiots- with the straightest face possible too. Always middling and being overly cautious usually in the name of objectivity or some other bull shit politesse. Well said cenk, well fucking said.
Obama must get the Democrats in line. Threaten them, do whatever it takes to get those clowns to ignore their corporate benefactors. Too much is riding on this. Obama's legacy, the nation's well-being. We must get this pushed through.
if there's any justice Lieberman should just go to hell and be with his friends - the man's a liar and a cheat - he represents no one but his own self interests
"Despite budgets ravaged by the recession, at least 13 states have invested millions of dollars this year to cover 250,000 more children with subsidized government health insurance.
The expansions have come in the five months since Congress and President Obama used the reauthorization of the Childrens Health Insurance Program to vastly increase its funding and encourage states to increase enrollment."
Do you think that people actually read the patriot act before they passed it or the pharmacutical bill. As somone that has worked in politics before they get the bill and the time before voting and they split it up this staffer who is a student of this stuff reads this part and so on and so on this happens on both sides and happened just as much during the bush years the regan years an so on. The only reason this is even an issue now is because the rep's are trying to object to everything
secretly? it's pretty obvious they don't want reform,
but banking reform is more important, Obama is doing absolutely everything possible to avoid going after the banks who financed his campaign, first deal with the problems with the financial industry and then deal with the health care cartels
the only reason they want to "take their time" is to continue to fuck all of us a little bit longer...........repubs, you lost, youre losing, bend over and take it without vaseline and vote
Pull your head out of your history books. That was 50 years ago. Today's racist groups and hate crimes are EXCLUSIVELY done by right-wingers. ...Truth hurts, no??
So if you feel you do not like the public option for what ever reason, you can still go back to the private option. Most likely it will be cheaper then it currently is. Also anybody watch Sicko? I've had my own battles with trying to get the insurance companies to pay for service.
univibe23, it sounds like you are from Japan and yes I can see why you would be considered not work the expense of having service provided to you. I had an ex girlfriend from Japan that said pretty much the same things. They also don't think special needs people are worth the cost too. What flawed with you logic is, in the US public health insurance is only on option among all the private options.
therach, your sadly misinformed as most Americans are. Most of my fellow citizens are too busy looking at PEOPLE, DWS, AI, MJ etc to mind numbing nausea. I know many English, Canadians, Japanese..as patients, their amazed at our system. Comments like: U mean I dont have to wait 4-6 months to have an MRI of my brain to R/O aneurysm? Really? I can have heart Bypass in the morning?!! But Doc Im 67 yo, In in my country Im considered not worth the expense according to Government charts.
You nailed it on the head Cenk. These six are in the pockets of the lobbyiests. These senators are disgusting and the Insurance industry is no less - I have first hand knowledge of these people - my father lobbyed for these people when I was a kid. Even then my mother told my father to get out of the lobby business because these people were so sleezy.
It is the voters idiot. These representatives know their constituents don't want this and they likely won't get re-elected if they vote for it. You people are so stupid.
Wrong!! Most Americans Dont want Health Care (Reform?) Reform, really. Its more like Deform. We R DEVO. The democrats wont be happy until all Successful, Hard working Americans are on Medicaid. Government cant run anything. Look at the VA. Talk to a Vet about how much they love that Government Run health care system. Sounds like a good idea--just let us all just go to the VA. Any volunteers? The Dems wont be happy until were all dependant on the Government and thus Wards of the State.
Most Americans DO want health care reform. They've just been led to believe that any reform will be a communist nightmare. This is just not true.
Ask any European or Canadian if they would trade their system for ours. You would have few takers, even with lower taxes. It works for them. Why wouldn't it work for us? Are they some sort of other species that just don't get sick or a hive mind of government slaves. Nope. They're people who have seen the light. and realize that healthcare is a right.
I wonder how many people who pay for the insurance realise that if there was a version of the British NHS you would be paying less into the pot. The idiots who talk about it being against freedom but seem to forget the "all created equal". I bet no-onw who can not afford to see a doctor or get life saving medical care are complaining about this.
This young turds network, or whatever this non-sense is, is the stupidest channel I have ever seen. There is clearly no attempt to be objective and unbiased.
I didn't see them come on the video and say, we are democrats or we are liberals. They at least want to preserve some appearance of objectivity by making it look like a news show. If they aren't objective, why watch? They are just cheering their side.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Please kill it. American is about freedom and forcing me to pay for other people's healthcare is not freedom. Move to europe or canada if you want the government to give you cradle to grave benefits.
Okay retard. Why didn't you leave when Bush was president? Oh, I forgot, your mom and did don't even give you enough allowance for a bus fare. Just wait until the elections of 2010. The democrats are going to lose a lot of seats. Now go back to your unamerican rumblings...
Then how did Bush win twice less than 10 years ago? Republicans support race neautral policies. It isn't the republicans' fault that minorities want to vote for policies that give their race special treatment. You do know the fact that a group of people that support a policy are view are all of the same race, doesn't discredit the idea? Can you understand that?
does this guy really believe the shit that comes out of his mouth! only idiots sign something they haven't read. and they should kill the stupid bill anyway. health care should be reformed at the state level. that would save everybody a lot of money. and it would stop the federal gov. from taking over everything. this guy seems to really hate business too. he needs to get a job.
These left wing fanatics are something...instead of reducing costs and have the government REGULATE the insurance industry & make it more accessible & competitive , they want the federal government to get into the health insurance business and destroy the system as we know it. It's always the same rethoric..."the evil corporations and bla bla bla"...these people should go to Cuba,Canada or the UK and talk to the people that use their systems...the RATIONING of care is such is not even funny...
Don't be so completely clueless. We have some of the most severe health care rationing on the planet already in the U.S. We have the rationing of nearly fifty million Americans who just fell through the cracks, and for those who actually have health policies, we have the rationing by the corporate pricks who don't care about the lives of seven-year old cancer patients (my son) when it comes to their bottom line, and issue one automatic claim denial after another.
HMOs have had years to "reduce" costs - instead health care costs are rising at double digit figures - just because someone desperately needs something doesn't mean you can charge whatever you want for it - that's called "profiteering"
I'm for the single payer approach. And if they think the 'reform' is mandatory insurance everyone has to pay for, then yes, kill that.
The solution is NO INSURANCE. Government reimbursing the providers directly via expensing. The patients should not see a bill. This is so much easier to regulate.
Plans that use insurance will have rewards and punishments for providers, payers, and patients and the insurance just becomes a huge money laundering scam.
The answer to a better health system is the furthest from what we are lead to believe.
Either way we think that the Government should be the one to 'fix' it. Democrats want to take it over and Republicans want to maintain the insurance based approach.
The feds are the ones who created this health bubble. They are the ones responsible for the costs.
Deregulate the Health industry and let it fail. Like housing Health costs will drop to what the market will support.
you cant let the market decide what people will pay for health care because health care has infinite value.
How much will you pay for chemotherapy for your kid or mother. You will pay whateva it takes . You would mortgage the house and sell all your belongings because your son or mothers live is worth an infinite value to you.
So if you dont regulate health care cost then they will charge even more.
Is there government regulation of the cost of energy and gas? If so, why did the price of gas go to $4 a gallon a few months ago? I guess the regulation isn't working that well.
I would have no problem with corporations running police and fire stations. And a large part of the mail is private...have you heard of fed-ex and UPS? Also, many hospitals are private...you don't know what you are talking about.
Law enforcement is to... enforce the law. That is a function of Government. Fire response is for the general welfare of the people. Again a function of Government.
Mail and hospitals should be run by the markets with one caveat, Government must prevent and break up monopolies instead of encouraging and supporting them like they currently do.
Who said anything about pigs and dolls? What are you talking about???
universal healthcare is actually BETTER for capitalism as it frees up money spent by employers to provide healthcare for employees and retired employees AND provides healthcare for startup entrepreneurs and self employed - Toyota built a car plant in Ontario, Canada and one of the reasons they chose Canada over U.S. is universal, gov't funded, healthcare
"Two-thirds of U.S. corporations paid no federal income taxes between 1998 and 2005, according to a new report from Congress.
The study by the Government Accountability Office, expected to be released Tuesday, said about 68 percent of foreign companies doing business in the U.S. avoided corporate taxes over the same period."
"More than 38,000 foreign corporations had no tax liability in 2005 and 1.2 million U.S. companies paid no income tax, the GAO said. Combined, the companies had $2.5 trillion in sales. About 25 percent of the U.S. corporations not paying corporate taxes were considered large corporations, meaning they had at least $250 million in assets or $50 million in receipts."
now who's sounding foolish? seems you've been drinking the corporate kool aid - $250 million in assets and not ONE PENNY in income tax? what's next? smoking doesn't cause cancer?
Yeah, smart one, income taxes aren't levied against assets.
The better analogy for you is trying to link alcohol abuse to lung cancer because that is what you're trying to do linking assets to income, LOL if only you knew... if only you knew...
""It's shameful that so many corporations make big profits and pay nothing to support our country," said Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., who asked for the GAO study with Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich."
47 million uninsured, not to mention millions more UNDERinsured, would beg to differ - right wing nuts like yourself that believe the FAUX news talking points will never understand - somehow spending billions on ICBMs is ok, but to spend the same on healthcare for ALL Americans isn't?
We are a nation that is over $11.5 trillion dollars in debt, with a failing economy, and two ongoing wars. How are you going to pay for national health care without raising taxes?
Not to mention the fact the federal goverment has bankrupted social security, medicare, and the welfare system. How will a national health care system be any differnet?
In a different time I personally wouldn't have a problem with it, but I fear your trading the monster of private insurance for a bigger one.
A good start would be to investigate the two thirds of American corporations that DID NOT pay income tax in 2008. Secondly don't go to war for stupid reasons like Iraq. Total bill so far 1.3 trillion. Not to mention bases all over the world to protect corporate interests that then outsource jobs outside the U.S. Removing the tax cuts for the rich. Tax them more as they have the most and hire the best to avoid paying taxes.
That hasn't happened yet. The only thing that pushing national health care NOW will happen is the taxpayer will get stuck with the bill.
I'm all for ending the war, taxing corporations (and removing the laws that protect them). I thought that was what Obama even ran on, but it hasn't happened yet.
Kapan60, I dunno how this is going work. I do believe Americans are paying too much for healthcare but although I don't know the answer to this situation I hope we can find a solution because there is nothing that hurts me more than seeing Americans suffering because they can't afford the medicine. Trust me its easy to ignore stuff when you have money but 42 million people not covered is not right yet we won't have a problem sending them to war.
heaty007 ... the 42million is largely mythic. The actual number is mor like 12 million. The 46 million ncludes persons who CHOOSe not have insurance, illegal alien, those who are qualified for other program, and temporarily unemployed.
You see here is the problem, if you agree with me that healthcare sucks then how come you didn't say anything 4 the last 8 years that republicans were in power. Because you are 4 this bullshit that we have now. Now that we want change all you do is come up with complaints. I want you guys to watch TV in the next few months and tell me 1 repblucan you see on TV talking of a solution. You won't find any bc they like the crap we have now. They absolutely don't care about 41mil americans.
I was against Bush from the start and even voted all Democrat during every election he was in power. I find it appalling that Nancy Pelosi took impeachment "off the table" after getting elected. She had a clear mandate from the People and folded the moment the Democrats came into power. I don't see any difference between Obama and Bush atm ethier.
Back to health care, you have yet to explain how we, as a nation, are going to pay for it while we are $11.5 trillion in debt.
By paying higher taxes, particularly the top 1% of earners. And we should because if we don't then our healthcare costs will continue to increase 10-15% a year anyways so at least we'll be getting a cost control on healthcare with those extra taxes. As far as the deficit, believe it or not, we still have a credit line and as long as China will give us credit then we can fix the economy, healthcare, etc, before we finally get to fixing that.
First off, cute use of the word "confiscate". The fact is, is that we used to tax the top 1% around 80% in the 40s and 50s and while that is too high, it is definitely too low now at 35% thanks to both Bushes. For maximum social gain, it is most efficient to tax the wealthiest more. And our healthcare system is bankrupting middle class families for having the nerve to get cancer and illnesses like that. This country gave you the opportunity to make the living you do in the 1st place as well!
cheifrc77: The social gain you are advocating is socialism. I understand that the desire to shelter good persons from bad things. However, paying for someone elses problems only serves to create dependency, deprives the person of their right to self-determination, and robs them of incentive to excel. BTW, my family is middle-class and the Democrats have drawn a target on us because we work hard and earn a living. In our great country, anyone can succeed and pay for their own healthcare.
Ahhhh, socialism. So if what you said is really how you feel then would you agree that we've been practicing socialism for over 100 years in America? Like I said earlier, the richest citizens used to pay 80%, that must be communism to you. The gov't need a certain amount of money to run their "socialist" programs like police, fire, etc. Whether you like it or not, the whole society benefits the most by having an increasing % tax structure. BTW, I'm a mathematician as well. R u an actuary?
So is your family going to turn down Medicare and Social Security when you people eligible. Both of those are paying for someone else's (your) problems. Can you afford $100,000 for serious cancer? How many other people can? What should they do, simply die if they don't have insurance ?
If you paid a tax of 5% and it was increased to 10% you'd still bitch about it, it's human nature. Same thing here. Republicans will keep pushing the stupid "tax cuts" line until we are truly screwed. It's gone too far and whether we want to admit it or not, we need to pay more taxes to get better schools, roads, police, fire, and healthcare! And please don't throw the "rich people create jobs" line at me because they certainly don't create ;nearly enough of them for the tax breaks they receive.
chiefrc77: I understand paying for a common good via taxes (e.g., roads, police, fire). I do not understand why one person has an obligation to pay for another person's healthcare or education. In a competitive society, we all have the same obligation to pay for our own education / healthcare. I have a child in medical school and one in an Ivy league law school. I have never asked; nor shall I ever ask anyone to pay for their education. I have always taken care of my own family. NO ONE else has
We will disagree with the right to an education and healthcare. Every child should have a right to a high school education, period. Not just the top 10-25%. Too bad the damn Republicans have turned the public school system into a joke over the last 30 years, of course to benefit the wealthy with those frequent tax cuts. And certain healthcare benefits should be offered to everyone without crippling people financially. Whether you are taxed 35 or 50% you aren't going to suffer like you claim!
Healthcare is a common good as much as the fire department is. The fire department goes out to specific people's houses and puts out a fire and doesn't charge them for it. It comes out of taxes.
Obama's reform doesn't even got that far. Most people would be paying for their own health insurance, the reform is there to make sure there is health insurance for them to get, and that it is affordable.
They would get a credit, like you get a credit for the mortgage interest on your house.
Dident we pay for those two wars without raiseing taxes. Actually lowering taxes in a time the rep's said was WW3. Reforming health care would actually help the bottom line and our debt. right now its like 18-25 % of GDP goes to health care and it is rising every year. You fear that we might be trading the monster of private health care for a bigger one. Well gov health care at least we will have some say in private we have none.
We didn't pay for the two wars because Bush thought it was smarter to borrow money from China. We haven't even begun to start paying for them. It's a major reason why we have a debt of nearly $12 trillion.
As for national health care saving money I can't see how that's possible. Your supposedly adding 41 million uninsured into the pool.
Social security, welfare, and medicare has not saved us any money. Why would national health care be any different?
welfare and medicare have not but Social security has not caost us any money. The fact is SS still at this point brings in more every year than it pays out. The problem is this SS money was thrown in with the budget and we have been spending its surpluses for years on other budgetary needs. If we hadent it would have enough money to get through the population bubbles we are soon to experience. This is why Gore talked about the lock box. He wanted to take SS back out of the budetary system
SS was succesfully raided during the Bush years and he was kind enough to take the money for simple goverment IOUs.
The only reason why social security works is because the people who work now pay for the people who are retired. However the baby boom and this recession/depression will eventually destroy social security.
Gore's also talking about wonderful new carbon taxes and cap and trade so we can all save the planet, but starve in the process.
...don't forget Reagan. He put the idea of "borrowing" from social security in motion back during the 80's. Growing up in the 80's I remember dad constantly gripeing about that. Bush just made it a full fledged art form.
"Somebody" starts something, regardless of partisanship, and it then become "acceptable" policy on both sides. It's only when one or the other screws up really bad that we yet *again* start the snowballing of finger pointing, fact checking, media blitzing, analogy tossing ALL to prove who has the greater blame. In the end: IT DOES NOTHING, RESOLVES NOTHING AND FIXES NOTHING. It's only *true* result is that just pisses more people off. On both sides.
It's only just started to become mainstream news on what's really going wrong with our country and it's clearly monetary policy.
You can't fix healthcare through a national program, because healthcare prices really aren't the issue. It's the fact the Federal Reserve is allowed to print money out of thin air to support whatever politicans. The poor and middle class suffer while the rich continue to get richer.
Monetary policy is the single most important issue we, not health care.
See, mindslaves are taught into thinking on a two dimensional plane. Right, left, left, right, Republican, Democrat, Democrats Good, Republicans Bad, Republicans Good, Democrats Bad,...
I don't have a tv so I wouldn't know what Fox News is telling people.
To rob people of their liberties in the defense of safety is not okay.
Actually,
Mary Landreau was against it,
until The Bama gave her $300,000,000.00.
And today, [12-19], he bought off Ben Nelson.
You now have your 60 votes Cenk.
As with the election of The Bama himself,
be careful what you wish for.

the quality of our healthcare now is horrible for the average american.

Hey, can't wait for the 2010 elections. You're going to end up somewhere back behind the Green party. Just keep waving those signs with all that phony patriot talk. Hell, you don't know the meaning of the word.

Thanks Cal.
AlNouveau 2 years ago 2
If we go broke, Im ok with that...at least we produce the best medicenes on earth thhanks to the expense of our system. But Obama doesnt care if we go broke, I mean he just spent TRILLIONS on bailouts, money we dont even have.
Sorry, you will lose, and lose in a bad way. Same goes on the immigration debate in Janurary...you will lose BIG on that. Prepare to see a new speaker of the house in 2010, now all of the polls say it is probebal.
calimar28 2 years ago
I do not agree with the bailouts either Cal, just stealing in plain sight and both parties guilty here as usual. There are many ways to guarantee health care for your citizens but there is little or no discussions on how we should to do it. Theres just this bill. Europe will not go broke due to health care costs. Theyve had their many different systems in place for decades, they work fine. I vote independent so I don't know what I'll do in 2010. But you back people like Palin you're doomed.

So, are you really happy with the direction this country is headed? Do you side with the committed marxists advising the president. Ckroush 2 years ago

Don't be so completely clueless. I'm for the single payer approach. And if they think the 'reform' is mandatory insurance everyone has to pay for, then yes, kill that.
The solution is NO INSURANCE. Government reimbursing the providers directly via expensing. The patients should not see a bill. This is so much easier to regulate.
Plans that use insurance will have rewards and punishments for providers, payers, and patients and the insurance just becomes a huge money laundering scam.
tenagliac 2 years ago
The answer to a better health system is the furthest from what we are lead to believe.
Either way we think that the Government should be the one to 'fix' it. Democrats want to take it over and Republicans want to maintain the insurance based approach.
The feds are the ones who created this health bubble. They are the ones responsible for the costs.
Deregulate the Health industry and let it fail. Like housing Health costs will drop to what the market will support.
LooseLatitude 2 years ago
you cant let the market decide what people will pay for health care because health care has infinite value.
How much will you pay for chemotherapy for your kid or mother. You will pay whateva it takes . You would mortgage the house and sell all your belongings because your son or mothers live is worth an infinite value to you.
So if you dont regulate health care cost then they will charge even more.
lamarkpowells 2 years ago
Regulations increase costs. This is basis 101 economics.
LooseLatitude 2 years ago
Really?
So if there was no government regulation on the cost of water, energy, and gas, and basic infrastructure, things would be cheaper?
Would you rather have corporations run the police, the fire stations, the mail stations, and the emergency rooms?
I don't know what 101 Dalmations you're smoking. We're not talking about buying smoked ham and Barbie dolls here.
PrUnEJuIcEtHeThIrD 2 years ago 4
Is there government regulation of the cost of energy and gas? If so, why did the price of gas go to $4 a gallon a few months ago? I guess the regulation isn't working that well.
I would have no problem with corporations running police and fire stations. And a large part of the mail is private...have you heard of fed-ex and UPS? Also, many hospitals are private...you don't know what you are talking about.

Please go back and argue with your teeny-bopper friends about your favorite hip-hopper and leave reasoning to people who have a clue.
jackiebrownkennedy 2 years ago
Again basic 101 econ in regards to costs.

Facts are important.
Your problem is that you are inadequate in comprehending those facts and than when pressed on it you quote opinions as if they were the gospel.
Don't be a peon.

47 million uninsured, not to mention millions more UNDERinsured, would beg to differ - right wing nuts like yourself that believe the FAUX news talking points will never understand - somehow spending billions on ICBMs is ok, but to spend the same on healthcare for ALL Americans isn't?
macspectrum 2 years ago
We are a nation that is over $11.5 trillion dollars in debt, with a failing economy, and two ongoing wars. How are you going to pay for national health care without raising taxes?
Not to mention the fact the federal goverment has bankrupted social security, medicare, and the welfare system. How will a national health care system be any differnet?
In a different time I personally wouldn't have a problem with it, but I fear your trading the monster of private insurance for a bigger one.
Kapan60 2 years ago
A good start would be to investigate the two thirds of American corporations that DID NOT pay income tax in 2008. Secondly don't go to war for stupid reasons like Iraq. Total bill so far 1.3 trillion. Not to mention bases all over the world to protect corporate interests that then outsource jobs outside the U.S. Removing the tax cuts for the rich. Tax them more as they have the most and hire the best to avoid paying taxes.
macspectrum 2 years ago
That hasn't happened yet. The only thing that pushing national health care NOW will happen is the taxpayer will get stuck with the bill.
I'm all for ending the war, taxing corporations (and removing the laws that protect them). I thought that was what Obama even ran on, but it hasn't happened yet.
Kapan60 2 years ago
Kapan60, I dunno how this is going work. I do believe Americans are paying too much for healthcare but although I don't know the answer to this situation I hope we can find a solution because there is nothing that hurts me more than seeing Americans suffering because they can't afford the medicine. Trust me its easy to ignore stuff when you have money but 42 million people not covered is not right yet we won't have a problem sending them to war.
heaty007 2 years ago
heaty007 ... the 42million is largely mythic. The actual number is mor like 12 million. The 46 million ncludes persons who CHOOSe not have insurance, illegal alien, those who are qualified for other program, and temporarily unemployed.
Dwyight 2 years ago
so what's the solution?
heaty007 2 years ago
You see here is the problem, if you agree with me that healthcare sucks then how come you didn't say anything 4 the last 8 years that republicans were in power. Because you are 4 this bullshit that we have now. Now that we want change all you do is come up with complaints. I want you guys to watch TV in the next few months and tell me 1 repblucan you see on TV talking of a solution. You won't find any bc they like the crap we have now. They absolutely don't care about 41mil americans.
heaty007 2 years ago
I was against Bush from the start and even voted all Democrat during every election he was in power. I find it appalling that Nancy Pelosi took impeachment "off the table" after getting elected. She had a clear mandate from the People and folded the moment the Democrats came into power. I don't see any difference between Obama and Bush atm ethier.
Back to health care, you have yet to explain how we, as a nation, are going to pay for it while we are $11.5 trillion in debt.
Kapan60 2 years ago
By paying higher taxes, particularly the top 1% of earners. And we should because if we don't then our healthcare costs will continue to increase 10-15% a year anyways so at least we'll be getting a cost control on healthcare with those extra taxes. As far as the deficit, believe it or not, we still have a credit line and as long as China will give us credit then we can fix the economy, healthcare, etc, before we finally get to fixing that.
chiefrc77 2 years ago
chiefrc77 ... I am in the top 1%. Why should government confiscate my hard work to benefit someone else?
Dwyight 2 years ago
because the needs of the many out way the needs of the few
skinflutey 2 years ago
First off, cute use of the word "confiscate". The fact is, is that we used to tax the top 1% around 80% in the 40s and 50s and while that is too high, it is definitely too low now at 35% thanks to both Bushes. For maximum social gain, it is most efficient to tax the wealthiest more. And our healthcare system is bankrupting middle class families for having the nerve to get cancer and illnesses like that. This country gave you the opportunity to make the living you do in the 1st place as well!
chiefrc77 2 years ago 2
cheifrc77: The social gain you are advocating is socialism.
Dwyight 2 years ago
Ahhhh, socialism. So if what you said is really how you feel then would you agree that we've been practicing socialism for over 100 years in America? Like I said earlier, the richest citizens used to pay 80%, that must be communism to you. The gov't need a certain amount of money to run their "socialist" programs like police, fire, etc. Whether you like it or not, the whole society benefits the most by having an increasing % tax structure. BTW, I'm a mathematician as well. R u an actuary?
chiefrc77 2 years ago
So is your family going to turn down Medicare and Social Security when you people eligible. Both of those are paying for someone else's (your) problems. Can you afford $100,000 for serious cancer? How many other people can? What should they do, simply die if they don't have insurance ?
Chrisfs59 2 years ago
If you paid a tax of 5% and it was increased to 10% you'd still bitch about it, it's human nature. Same thing here. Republicans will keep pushing the stupid "tax cuts" line until we are truly screwed. It's gone too far and whether we want to admit it or not, we need to pay more taxes to get better schools, roads, police, fire, and healthcare! And please don't throw the "rich people create jobs" line at me because they certainly don't create ;nearly enough of them for the tax breaks they receive.
chiefrc77 2 years ago 2
chiefrc77: I understand paying for a common good via taxes (e.g., roads, police, fire). NO ONE else has
Dwyight 2 years ago
We will disagree with the right to an education and healthcare. Every child should have a right to a high school education, period. Not just the top 10-25%. Too bad the damn Republicans have turned the public school system into a joke over the last 30 years, of course to benefit the wealthy with those frequent tax cuts. And certain healthcare benefits should be offered to everyone without crippling people financially. Whether you are taxed 35 or 50% you aren't going to suffer like you claim!
chiefrc77 2 years ago
Healthcare is a common good as much as the fire department is. The fire department goes out to specific people's houses and puts out a fire and doesn't charge them for it. It comes out of taxes.
Obama's reform doesn't even got that far. Most people would be paying for their own health insurance, the reform is there to make sure there is health insurance for them to get, and that it is affordable.
They would get a credit, like you get a credit for the mortgage interest on your house.
Chrisfs59 2 years ago
Dident we pay for those two wars without raiseing taxes. Actually lowering taxes in a time the rep's said was WW3. Reforming health care would actually help the bottom line and our debt. right now its like 18-25 % of GDP goes to health care and it is rising every year. You fear that we might be trading the monster of private health care for a bigger one. Well gov health care at least we will have some say in private we have none.
chrisgalizia 2 years ago
We didn't pay for the two wars because Bush thought it was smarter to borrow money from China. We haven't even begun to start paying for them. It's a major reason why we have a debt of nearly $12 trillion.
As for national health care saving money I can't see how that's possible. Your supposedly adding 41 million uninsured into the pool.
Social security, welfare, and medicare has not saved us any money. Why would national health care be any different?
Kapan60 2 years ago
welfare and medicare have not but Social security has not caost us any money. He wanted to take SS back out of the budetary system
chrisgalizia 2 years ago
SS was succesfully raided during the Bush years and he was kind enough to take the money for simple goverment IOUs.
The only reason why social security works is because the people who work now pay for the people who are retired. However the baby boom and this recession/depression will eventually destroy social security.
Gore's also talking about wonderful new carbon taxes and cap and trade so we can all save the planet, but starve in the process.
Kapan60 2 years ago
...don't forget Reagan. He put the idea of "borrowing" from social security in motion back during the 80's. Growing up in the 80's I remember dad constantly gripeing about that. Bush just made it a full fledged art form.
plord28 2 years ago 2
I'm sure he did. Clinton did the same. It wouldn't suprise me in the least that other presidents have done the same thing.
The idea we trust politicans with our mutual retirement when they can't even pay off the federal debt is mindboggling to say the least.
Kapan60 2 years ago
Exactly!
It has a snowball effect.
On both sides.
plord28 2 years ago
It's only just started to become mainstream news on what's really going wrong with our country and it's clearly monetary policy.
You can't fix healthcare through a national program, because healthcare prices really aren't the issue. It's the fact the Federal Reserve is allowed to print money out of thin air to support whatever politicans. The poor and middle class suffer while the rich continue to get richer.
Monetary policy is the single most important issue we, not health care.

Who said I was a right wing nut?
See, mindslaves are taught into thinking on a two dimensional plane. Right, left, left, right, Republican, Democrat, Democrats Good, Republicans Bad, Republicans Good, Democrats Bad,...
I don't have a tv so I wouldn't know what Fox News is telling people.
To rob people of their liberties in the defense of safety is not okay.
