  • DevonaterMetalMaster, I meant built, for example its cheaper to make 400whp from a ls1 than from a KA or SR, all the LS Needs for that is a nice camshaft while the sr would need all the internals, intercooler, turbo, hardware and everythig else, just stick to the ls1 and it will be cheapest

  • did you know ls1's and ls3's are actually lighter than the 240's stock KA24, probably just as good on gas, 3x more powerful, looks better and souds better, probably even cheaper to build also

  • @rlb69 wait...the LS7 has only 16 valves and one cam. Also an LS engine fully dressed weighs around 450lbs. for contrast a fully dressed SR20 weighs in at around 425lbs. So the "jiant" (I think you meant giant) V8 only weighs about 25lbs more than the 4cyl it replaced, and the new 5.0 weighs about 440lbs. So your comment (and spelling) is fail.

  • V8's are better for Formula D. D1 and other comps around the world usually have tighter turns so the power isn't really necessary. But plenty of people do the Evergreen and irvindale bank with slow cars.

  • @evo8 i had a 87 s10 with a ls1, ford 9" rearend locked up trust me i know how well they slide pal. toss a rb26deTT in that s14 and put them up side by side. the lighter motor will produce the same slide with alot less oversteer :p i never said i wouldnt drive it. just that this much power deserves to be harnessed in something capeable of puttn it to good use! ls7 howmuch is that? 30,000$? rb26dett 3500$? lol no comparison evo kid. lol tell this kid to toss a real motor in his car 2jzgtte

  • I love RBs and all but take a look at the weight comparison of RB26 cast iron block vs ls7 aluminum block. Last I heard the ls weighs less.. coulda heard wrong tho

  • lol i would have stuck wit nizmo and spent 20gs on a rb26dett and Stayed under 2800lbs total weight these cars are Ballanced. thats why this guy needs to counter steer his drifts soooo hard. look at the jap 180'sx with a rb26dett in it. best drift car for a reason. light in the ass not to heavy on the front wheels and 500hp thats all you need. i personally drive a twin turbo supra that would make give that ls7 a good race. heck id throw a 1jzgtte in that s14 anyday

LS7 is a particular engine code that originally designated a 454 that was a warmed over LS6 (another 454, Rectangle port heads, solid lifter cam, high compression). In stock form, these engines were rated at 450-500HP (supposedly underrated as well); a far cry from the 230-250 HP a late 80's truck 454 produced (small oval port heads, low compression, hydraulic cam). Unless the motor has been swapped, it's safe to say that it's not a LS7.

  • @dan57ltr Read the whole conversation. I'm not referring to the current LS7 small block (Which is 427 CID), but the original LS7 (which was originally intended as a production engine, but only made it as far as a GM crate motor) which is a 454 big block.

    Both of the above engines are hand built

    LSA=556 hp supercharged 6.2L (ctsv, ZL1)

    LS3=430 hp NA 6.2L (C6, SS maro)

  • @vinnie01 bore, stroke and compression ratio differences among a few other slight variations. use wikipedia if you want to find the specifics.

  • @OMGItsWeasel Uh there's a bit more than bore, stroke, and compression ratio. LS engines are all of the same basic design, but none of them actually share anything. The only LS engines that really shared anything was the LS1 and LS6, in which they only shared the block. Everything else was different.

  • @vinnie01 theres a ton of different LS engines. All the truck 4.8/5.3/6.0 engines are LS engines even though they are named LM7, L59, L33, LQ4, LQ9, etc etc. Then theres all the car engines, LS1, LS6, LS2, LS7, LS3, L99, etc. Some are aluminum block, some are iron block, almost all have aluminum heads except for the first 2 years of LQ4s, they had iron heads. Most have cathedral port heads, some have rectangle port heads like the LS3, L99, L92. LS7s have their own head.

  • @blabla3o Sometimes people refer to LSx as any LS engine. But a real LSX is a block GM sells, it can be had in standard or tall deck. So if someone has a 438 LSX its a GM LSX block to start.

  • this has clearly made a lot of people argue over 4pot turbo or v8s and i have to say til this point i would of said 4pot turbo as im a fan of that kinda set up. however after seeing this little glimpse of whats to come i think matt will be spend a shed load of time at ridiculous angles and having great fun doing it.
