Don't really care for how Rolfe is going about doing this movie but hell, business is business and money never sleeps. Trouble is, I don't really care anymore. I actually stopped watching the AVGN since 2009 when I got bored watching his stuff. He really should have done this movie three years ago when he was still relevant. If he were to pander his fans for money then it would have made more sense cuz IMO the AVGN was really hot in 2008-2009.

I am still a fan of James Rolfe, but I must agree with many of these points. They originally planned for $75,000 to be fan donated and even after they got passed that point, they said "we can't stop there. This film can be entirely fan donated" yet, they don't tell you how much the budget is going to be. And it sucks for the people who donated hjave to donate AGAIN to get the new perks (or rather a CHANCE to win a broken guitar or game system that doesn't work).
Yeah what really sucks is that Rolfe gives nothing away. He should give SPECIFICS to be fair. But, everything conveniently always falls to the "everyone is free to donate or not donate" argument so...meh...

I actually separate between people that do their thing, and those who keep shoveling it down your throat with everything they do. As far as that goes, James did great and I never felt annoyed by the fact that he sells DVDs, shirts, or whatever. His videos were never filled with ads, or any off-turners that are to be found in all the videos of the so called "youtube-elites" or internet celebrities in general.
So I do not hate people in general that make cash off of their reviews. If you can do that, that's great, but if you pester your fan base with that fact or prior views and clicks over everything else, or start begging for money, that's where it cuts the line for me. With James' fund it feels like he wants more donations just because people are willing to give him more than he would actually need - even if he declines that now, but those who followed to fund since its start, will know.

AVGN is a sketch about an actor who barely acts, and when he acts he cheesily overacts. People may like it for that reason. But many don't particularly, and Rolfe's acting ability or the lack of it will show in the movie. This and my opinion that people hugely overestimate what 300k can do makes me a pessimist.

I really don't see what the issue here is. What is wrong with wanting to make money doing the stuff you love? I can understanding completely changing your style to appeal to the lowest common denominator, or branching out to a particular audience that will net you the most cash, but I don't see that in James. His recent Nerd episodes to me are as enjoyable as they always have been. Nothing wrong with wanting to get paid for it.
James has been investing ALL of his TIME into making these FREE videos. TIME-=his life. His fans have supported him and made the CHOICE to give him money, because they WANT to see his movie made. Still I asked questions about how long the movie was some time after his previous episode. If the movie that much money consuming, it could be no wonder why his movie's taking so long after reach $75,000. Could it really be there's more about the cost of filmmaking a movie than he thought? And with the sudden fundraiser extended, it does have people say that he's a sellout due to all this. As far as I know, we don't know s**t about he's doing with the money. He has to finish that movie ASAP.

I don't have much to say about AVGN, After a few years of James being the Nerd, this film could e the last of seeing him. Understandable that you chose to stop being a Nerd fan because of what you think and believe that he's a sellout. Me..I don't give a crud about that stuff anymore. Of course, I never donated to him, I just watched his videos. If this is the last we see of the Nerd, then that sucks and I wanted him to go on a bit longer.

I don't think he set out to make money with his videos and to me at least, it never seemed like he lost interest in them and just made them for money. He still seems sincere about everything and genuinely grateful to his supporters. You can say that he's just "acting" or whatever and people are dumb to fall for it, but there really is no evidence for that or anything else you're saying. Do you know how much movies cost to make? Do you know how much "extra" money he's getting?

@colbent No, I never said he's been faking it all the way, like I "said", well typed rather, to me James always appeared to be a guy that doesn't screw you over or is just doing it for fame and cash (as others like Irategamer), because he likes to do it. I can't help to think of it otherwise now after he concentrated on that fund so much, in particular the time after the 75.000$ were already raised. Right now they even want to top the #1 fund which was 345.000$... just because they can.

I really hope AVGN make good use out of the extra 225,000 he earned from the donations like improving the filmography of the movie or buying better props. His fans donated more cuz they want a good AVGN movie & they want him to do more in the movie. But yeah I'm not happy with the fact that he plan on selling the movie alone. If I were James I would've publish the movie FOC & for the hardcore fans, sell the movie along with some Nerd merchandise & the other AVGN volumes as a collector's edition

As for selling out, I admit I don't really like some of the newer AVGN materials but at least he still come up with entertaining and innovative reviews . I don't agree you calling him a sell-out just because he have a website, sign contracts or have ad revenues. It's a way to advertise his reviews and caters to a wider audience so he can earn more viewership and appreciation.

I actually separate between people that do their thing, and those who keep shoveling it down your throat with everything they do. As far as that goes, James did great and I never felt annoyed by the fact that he sells DVDs, shirts, or whatever. His videos were never filled with ads, or any off-turners that are to be found in all the videos of the so called "youtube-elites" or internet celebrities in general.

So I do not hate people in general that make cash off of their reviews. If you can do that, that's great, but if you pester your fan base with that fact or prior views and clicks over everything else, or start begging for money, that's where it cuts the line for me. With James' fund it feels like he wants more donations just because people are willing to give him more than he would actually need - even if he declines that now, but those who followed to fund since its start, will know.

AVGN is a sketch about an actor who barely acts, and when he acts he cheesily overacts. People may like it for that reason. But many don't particularly, and Rolfe's acting ability or the lack of it will show in the movie. This and my opinion that people hugely overestimate what 300k can do makes me a pessimist.

I really don't see what the issue here is. What is wrong with wanting to make money doing the stuff you love? I can understanding completely changing your style to appeal to the lowest common denominator, or branching out to a particular audience that will net you the most cash, but I don't see that in James. His recent Nerd episodes to me are as enjoyable as they always have been. Nothing wrong with wanting to get paid for it.

James has been investing ALL of his TIME into making these FREE videos. TIME-=his life. His fans have supported him and made the CHOICE to give him money, because they WANT to see his movie made. That camera was purchased with money given to him by fans, not just to make the AVGN movie but for James to use on other projects. He has presented himself as someone who has always loved making movies and wants to pursue that. He is not just taking the money out of peoples checking accounts...
