People seem to think that Haoshoku Haki is derived from the person's bloodline, but that's just not true. Those who have it have demonstrated that they're all extremely determined and confident people, strong in their abilities and personalities.

In short, Luffy doesn't have it because he's related to anyone, but because of WHO he is!

@Uberhippo24 not necessarily... Haōshoku Haki is somewhat like autism - you can have a family bloodline that has no trace of it, but the next kid could still be born autistic.

So even though Luffy has is, Garp doesn't necessarily have it. Look at Hancock - if what you said applies, then Marigold and Sandersonia would have haōshoku haki as well. The other two Haki can be "learned", but haōshoku can only be improved.

This scene was where he was going to utilize Haoshoku, but he stopped due to a sudden illness attack. Whitebeard had all 3 types mastered.

@publiusdg what? whitebeard was a haki master, he knew all 3 hakis and was exceptional in them. only reason he couldnt use it here was his injuries fucked him up so he couldnt really concentrate. so far the only known people that have all 3 types of haki is whitebeard, luffy and rayleigh. and theres no proof that gold roger had kings haki aswell. also its not even that great a power tbh, all of the top tiers wont get affected by it as they got stron willpower, its only good for fodder really

@1KingMajin in japanese it can mean all those things. its like english, one phrase in japanese is not limited to just one definition. What luffy says can mean all three of those things. the only difference is the kanji symbols used, the context, and the dialect of japanese being used. :)

@Halyto there are more :) when luffy fought the tenryuubito , he dodged the 2 bullets he shot and then attacked with a powerful attack. IDK how the name of the haki is called but stronger attacks are a type of haki.

@PreGamingTV thanks for the comment, but the punch was just a normal strong (epic :p ) punch, no Haki (busoshoku) was needed to hit a tenryuubito, they are weak, they just have a lot influence and political power. And dodging bullets might be kenbunshoku haki but i just think that its skill, just like Zoro with another tenryuubito (although Zoro can use Kenbunshoku Haki). and if i remember correct this is not luffy's first time dodging bullets... i think? :)

On another tangent, it'd be good if Luffy managed to do what Blackbeard did and get another devil fruit power, perhaps Ace's flame logia power. I feel to get to the next level to seriously contend with the big guys he's needs a logia power.

I agree that Luffy is awesome, however he struggles against logia users. He lucked out against Enel, him being lightining's weakness. However he struggles with Smoker logia power and he's only at commodore level. So he clearly won't be able to take out an Admiral yet or even Blackbeard. I'm not sure how much stronger he gets after the timeskip as I don't read the manga however he needs some kind of ablity as his physical attacks won't work against these high level logia users.
