  • Tony Williams and Bill Kenny of The Ink Spots are sadly forgotten today. R.I.P to both legends.

  • Never get tired of hearing this. Thanks to youtube and those who posted it.

  • This was the #1 song the week I was born: September13th, 1956...

  • @Deuteronomy64 - Me too, August 30th, same year,,, ughhh, LOL

It was on top of Billboard for like 3-4 weeks. And I actually like this version better than the one that, hate to say, Roy Orbison did......

  • every time I hear the platters, I was serene, God is no longer so artists?

  • My prayer is to linger on Willams' last note.

  • Can't have this music again, 'cause it isn't about love and romance, it's about money and hate...

  • "mischief"?? goddamn I love this song!! tooooNIIIIIGHT!!!

  • Tony Williams, Fantastico!

  • Tony Williams: Power, beauty, and as close as one can get to perfection.

  • This Beautiful Woman, Her Voice & presence, Adds so Much

    to the Platters Music.

I have always wondered who She is?

  • When I hear this song I think of the Happy Days episode where Richie and Potsie go to a dance dressed as girls (to try and join a fraternity) and Fonzie dances with Richie (even blows in his ear!).

  • I was lucky enough to be a teenager in the 60s and still enjoy the Platters just as much today as I did then. Great music never dies, it just gets better with age.

  • Maravilhoso!

  • thanks

  • THIS SONG IS MEDICINE FOR LOVERS. I'LL ALLWAYS LOVE IT.

  • this guy sounded good in the 50's when we had transistor radio's

  • A truly phenomenal group, songs that are untouched today, and truly sad that we will never see the likes of them or this wonderful music again.

  • @unklbuk1 amen>>>>>>>

  • The person who pops during the video is Tony Williams, the lead singer. He broke off from the group for a single career, then got out of the business after during a three-month European tour his son died died midway through and the promoters neglected to tell him. When he arrived back home, the boy had been in the ground for six weeks.

  • Thanks, Basquelady!

  • Who is the man in the close-up photo that sometimes pops up during this video. I loved the entire group but his voice was really special and really created the special "Platters" sound. This was one of my favorite songs.

  • @AnneBowen1 His name was Tony Williams and he was an amazing singer. He was the lead singer until he left the band in 1961.

  • @Basquelady86 They were my 1st favorites in my teens. I love this version..No one, but no one can ever replace Tony Williams. Loved him!!!!

  • @Basquelady86 Tony Williams had an incredible voice!

  • @AnneBowen1

The great Tony Williams...a voice for the ages.

  • @AnneBowen1

Anne -- It is the fabulous Tony Williams, lead singer.

  • @AnneBowen1 i platters legendari fanno parte della mia gioventù

  • The Platters? Superb is the word used to define this group. Classic music! Listen to the voice! Listen closely to the saxaphone players in the back round. I love it!

  • 09/01/11 HOW SAD THAT WE DO NOT HAVE THESE GLORIOUS VOICES TO ENTERTAIN US IN PERSON. BUT THANKS TO ALL YOUR POSTINGS, WE DO ENJOY THE YESTERYEARS OF QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT. roselli

  • music, music, music

  • Aprendi a gostar dessas musicas com meu grande pai..

    obrigado papai!!!

  • This is as good as it gets, over 50 yrs and it still leaves me breathless, the Platters were simply fabulous!

  • Superbly devine! Thank you very much for uploading! This is real music and real SOUL! From Sam Cooke, and the Platters' biggest fan in the Middle East! God bless

  • What a great song

  • it;s my prayer answered to hear the original platters sing my prayer

  • On July 31, 1956

"My Prayer" by the Platters was the #1 song.

  • My dad used to play this on our road trips when my sisters and I were sleeping in the back of the van - it was part of the "Sleepy Time Mix".

  • @vagtasticone Thumbs up for "The Sleepy Time Mix." I love the concept and the image you evoked.

  • @speechrighter Thanks! I'll always cherish those memories of our road trips with my parents - my father was always schooling us on these classic oldies songs and their entire history and backstory - he knew everything! To this day my sisters and I still (poorly) attempt 3-part harmony/ lead and backup to these songs when we get together and we have a blast.

  • perfectly voice, I love it )

  • oh de beaux souvenirs et superbement bien chanté par the platters

  • why can't we have beutiful music like past generations had?

  • @Rocker2K12 check out my american rap love songs

  • @Rocker2K12

I am thankful for three things: that we did have it, can see live performances on YouTube, and can buy it in digital (clearer) form.

  • Popular music comes and goes. This is good. Beautiful music hangs around a while. The longer, the better.

  • @pierrewoodmanizer Eskerrik asko!! Biarritz is simply beautiful! Gora Euskal Herria!

  • Though my favorite music genre is modern rock/alternative, this song hits me in the heart for some reason. I just love it! It is so beautifully orchestrated and the lyrics are so sweet and beautiful. It just goes to prove that every era of music has its jems! Most excellent!

  • classical cant be imitated brilliant vocals well gifted

  • wish there was a way to send this to a certain cellphone number

  • @7754349200

  • so many memories with this song

  • I gave up praying.God doesn't answer most prayers.Doesn't make me an atheist.

  • @rainwrap I have been told God gives you what you need not always what you want xx

  • @rainwrap If God answered every prayer this world would be a pretty fucked up place

  • @rainwrap well...even more fucked up

  • 4 people don't have prayers and are atheists

  • omg beautiful....

  • Thanks for posting, but you are playing it too fast! It's about a half-tone sharp!

  • This is in my favorites, and my playlist, and i LOVE it! Thanks again for posting. If any of you doubt the vocal abilities of Tony Williams, listen at 1:30, and at the end of the song. He is/was one of the best ever! What a phenominal voice. We can all dream of having one half of his ability.

  • Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!

  • Couldn't have been better! What can one say about these voices? Soft as velvet, steady and strong, deadly accurate, perfect in both low and high tones, excellent backing vocals. Why is it that the singers of today can't even dream of reaching such heights of perfection? Why can't we even drem of hearing such melodious compositions today?

  • Tony Williams. What pipes!

  • old classic megga

  • the ultimate vocal group. did they ever make anything not a classic?!

  • Ric,Flory, Cenon, I'm your classmate at MLQU, philippines.

  • Proud to say that Tony Williams the lead singer is from my home state of NJ which has produced so many great performers

  • Damn I just got goosebumps!!!

  • The most beautiful song for a wedding ever.......

  • .....Y cada letra de mis poemas será una oración para tí, que siempre estarás en lo mas profundo de mi Ser.

  • !!!!!!!!!! W O W !!!!!!!!!!

  • One of the best songs ever sung by one of the best vocal harmony groups ever.

  • I was born in 1974 and I have listened to music from all eras and genres. Without a doubt this man is the greatest singer I have ever heard. No one can touch Tony. It's not just his total command of his vocal range, it is the perfect timing of his inflections.

I often laugh when people talk about great singers and don't even mention his name. It tells me that either they haven't heard the Platters, cannot identify greatness, or both.

  • @mozart6023 he was good but you can't discount, otis, sam, or nate!

  • Impossibile ripetere i Platters(come..fermare il tempo).I Beatles non sarebbero esistiti....senza loro....

  • i dare anyone to name a better group than this , there simply is not and will never be , back then your voice was key not computers .

  • How wonderful to have grown up in the 50's. This song still sends chills up my spine. and my wife and I still dance to this, and even at 70, I still try to sing it to her. Thanks for bringing back such magnificent memories.

  • @richh40 : You hit the nail right on the head with that comment.

  • @richh40 70 year olds use the internet... Awesome.

  • My wife and I saw the platters perform at the old Blinstrubs in Boston in the 60's before we married. One of the greatest groups ever.

  • First recorded in 1939. First written in 1926 under another title.

  • Three people have no taste in music..My mother was barely born when this was recorded and I love the Platters....the orginal ones were the best ones....

  • my wife passed 6/9/2010 this was the last song we danced to. Memories

  • "Tonight while our hearts are aglow Oh tell me the words that I'm longing to know my Prayer and the answer you give may they still be the same for as long as we live that you'll always be there at the end of my Prayer." What a beautiful song; It gives me the "chills" just listening to it & it makes me feel thankful to be alive and to be in love with and to be loved by the man of my dreams.......

  • Timeless..

  • prayers are always answered by the LORD....according to HIS will... the song reminds us to pray every now and then....for our love ones...

  • The original Platters, led by Tony Williams, are one of the rock era's greatest groups. Their songs are ones I never tire listening to. Over and over.

  • greatest singing group of all time hands down

  • WHO on Earth.. could NOT love this song? ONLY SATAN!!!!!!

  • I love your sentiments and what you have written about this song. It is truly amazing. I was born 1950 but have always loved the platters and music like theirs. It is inspirational and such pure voices, so warm and heartfelt. Just wanted to say I appreciate your comments and feel I have met a friend.

  • The first photo is the best in the whole video (except for music, of course). It is like a remebrance of the bygone age.

  • @duchessofyorkies People can still sing beautifully but they have nothing beautiful to sing. I to miss the true love songs too. Makes me wonder have we really progressed? However, we still have these lovely song makers to refer back to when we need a little encouragement. If you’re looking for it as I am, all hope can't be gone. We'll find some new artist that has more compassion for the art than the money. Gotta have faith!

  • Angels!

  • I can't decide which part I like better, 1:30 or 2:16.

  • I do not think that in all my years I have ever heard a more beautiful song than "My Prayer" with Tony Williams at the lead. From childhood until now I have listened to this wonderful song as much as I could and I do not think another song could ever come close to the vocals, lyrics, and style of this group. Thanks for posting....jb

  • NON HO PAROLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BELLO QUESTO GIOCHINO ! E MERAVIGLIOSE QUESTE CANZONI !

  • @annapaolatinaio Mille Grazie!!

  • one of the best songs ever! and i'm a wigger!

  • As a teenager in the '50's, I consider myself blessed that I was there at the beginning ... we just had our 55th BHS reunion, and we still hit it off ... these songs keep us young, just remembering ... and Zola Taylor - WOW - wasn't she just TOO cute ...

  • this is the sorta song that plays when i see the perfect girl walk around the corner

  • no hay palabras, solo disfrutar esas voces, y decir eso es cantar.

  • It has been very hard to find music to truly connect to but some how these people have made it. Such genius. Thank you so much for the upload!

  • @MarilynFanMansonMan Thanks for leaving your comment!

  • You have exquisite taste in music!!!

  • @JohnF731 Thanks for your beautiful comment!

  • I've always loved this song. It's so beautiful, The Platters were amazing.

  • Stupendi da brivivido, sfido il mondo a ripettere il loro" miracolo"

  • Black music is not the same as it used to me,what a song

  • not much better than this

  • I miss music like this, and I wasn't even alive back then. Something about the sincerity of it that seperates it from today's music.

  • I believe this was the song my parents thought of as "theirs," back in their day. Funny how hard it is to remember your parents once were young, romantic and full of energy and enthusiasm for life and each other. Sure do miss the two of them..

  • This is by far the most beautiful version of this song ever recorded. I never tire of it. Thanks for posting it!

  • All of their songs were hits. I love this group. They put me in another world.

  • Wish there was more music like this made today
