I can say that, until I saw Spock, I was bothered by the fact that smart people seemed to have no positive roles. I was smart, and was almost ashamed of the fact, so didn't try to push my abilities. Then I saw Spock, finally someone who's smartness was positive. So after that I started trying to not just study for grades, but to learn as much, and develop as much as I could. I also wanted to find a way to live long enough to see the 23rd century. Not successful yet, but haven't failed either.
