Are there like, certain units in the game of a ship? I'd love to see how complex they actually went into it. 36 gunners 74 gunners 106, 1st rate 2ndrate n stuff. Or is it just really 2 models and a pirate version and that's it?
@UnbekannterSoldat74 You can still win with a smaller ship but not in big battles because it takes a lot of micro. You need to use chain shot to blow off their masts and they're done. But most of the time big ships will blast you away. It's realistic though... naval warfare was all about firepower back then.
@kaiuycn Thats why i like this game so much. Because its realistic. The land battles are marvelous and the see battles spectacular, especially with this graphics.
@kaiuycn well back then you had to have your ship next to another ship if you want to shoot at it. Now we have shit like heath-seeking rockets so you can shoot other ships from werever you like. :P
but yeah also in the 17th centrury the ship with the most cannons won, though fortunately a good adminral could still make a huge difference. (otherwise naval battles in ETW would be pretty boring, right? :P)
@DennisTheCaveman fire power dont count that much, well it does if you are going up against a ship of the like with 2 to 3 ft thick hull with 24, 32 & 36 lb guns with a sloop with 6 lb guns, and back then alot of battles where done side by side in a line (hence the name ship of the line) but maneuvers are also a vital thing for a win and also alot depended on the crew, like sailors getting the orders, and gunners loading and firing to the best of their ability
@BenTheJumpingBean I think it's some extra material you have to buy to get her. Elite Units of the West or something like that. But I'm not completely sure.
When an enemy ship surrenders and just stands in the same area u cant board it or attack it anymore so how do u get the enemy sailors to become prisonners?or take that ship for urself?
@ThePimpycat You do that after the battle. Any ship that has surrendered to you will be under your control after the battle. When the battle ends you can choose if you just want to take the loot and get money (which will destroy the ships you've captured), or keep the ships and redistribute the enemy crew you've captured equally throughout the entire fleet. You can do all that in the screen that pops up when you have won.

@AngelBiLove No there are many certain units, but the battles are not very balanced, the bigger ship wins. Whatever there are a lot of types of ships
