I think it's best that it isn't made. Hollywood has shown time and again that it doesn't take this sort of stuff seriously, and probably wouldn't put much effort into it.
Animation already has sound and movement what would having a live action version actually add? If you want to see the story of Eva its been done at least 3 times already why do we need to see it again?
(continued from previous post) it* is appropriate to have them at that age and be nude, will be a subject of debate, the characters psychological and social thinking to fit the character would be quite hard for a 14-16 year old to portray and accurately present themselves, is hard, but not impossible, if the many the majority of teenagers can watch this anime and truly understand its emotions and have a desire to portray them, then there is no reason to disregard the ages of 14-16!
early 20's? Man i think you truly are diminishing the artistic, and acting ability of a 14 year old, sure they can older, but early 20's? you'll have to find a short 20 year old to play shinji! the movie would not look right if everyone didn't appear to be the age they are supposed to be, think about it, a 20 year old shinji who is the same height as his dad and is clearly smaller in the anime, wouldn't work. And i'll be direct, if its nudity, regarding the ages of the pilots, and whether its...
Hideaki Anno should have the final say so far as the main storyline.
It will have to be a trilogy. Also, Rei MUST be an albino with blue hair.
Obviously, they will have to make a few changes, like the age of the pilots, maybe in their early 20's instead of being 14. They can still have certain plot devices like sync ratios, etc. that makes it where only they can be the pilots.
I think the modern CGI of the Evas will be awesome, just look at District 9's mecha action and how cool it looked.
@GrievousCommander Agree on the trilogy, agree on Rei having to be albine, agree on the pilots having to be maybe in their early 20s rather than 14 etc, but I'm not so sure on the completely blue hair bit. I mean, wouldn't black hair with a slight blue-ish hint be good and realistic enough?
the us version of the two end movies is very disappointing they took over 30 minutes of footage out of each so y are we hopping that these people make the move when they are just going to @#%& it up for there one benefit
God, I hope to God that the Evangelion movie is made and done right. I LOVE Evangelion, and this would be awesome along with the Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell movies coming out.
I feel like this franchise can't visually work as a live action film. Unless they go all out with the CGI like 300 or I, Robot, everything from the fight sequences to the whole "buildings retracting into the ground" thing is going to look silly. As for the actual story, I'm afraid they'll dumb it down significantly to reach blockbuster status. Then again, The Dark Knight was the highest-grossing film of 2008, so there might be hope for another smart blockbuster after all.
whwn weta did the halo comercials they wre so sick. The made the ODSTs look so cool, if they put as much effort in to the halo trailers as evangelion than that would be the best movie ever.
bungie shold make the next eva game
There should be an evangelion armor varient that would be cool
I can understand you saying that perhaps in that everyone'd watch it just cause of the LA movie but I think it'd be awesome to see it in live action especially after the transformers live action (didn't like the movie but the special effects would be similar).
The movie is in 'progress' stage. Also, I wouldn't want Michael Bay or Zack Snyder on this. And also, the Japanese with the exception of The Returner, really have a sad time in acting in this genre of this kind. They're very poor in this.
Agreed, everything he does is too overblown, alright for Transformers but definitely not fine for NGE. Also his movies have a bad habit of attracting Ben Afleck to the cast.
Hi; I did a convention panel where I discuss Weta's attempts to make live-action Eva; I hope they're informative, I posted them as a video-response to this.
Richard Taylor said: "Please keep a vocal voice so we can try to get it to happen"...so that's what I tried to do when I talked about it at my panels.
Yeah about that... could you STOP IT with the sequel theories, or at the very least STATE it is a theorey? There has been NO official word on it, you're fanwanking, and you're passing it off as fact.
...Rebuild of Evangelion doesn't have anything to do with Live-Action Evangelion. It is odd that you would respond to that here, as opposed to on an actually relevant part of my panel videos.
its been most 7 or 8 damn years since they've announced it and its 2009 so....wheres the trailer huh? where is the real one huh? OH thats right lol...there isnt one oh gosh that sucks so bad. please ....ok...once again...there isnt gonna be a movie. they should rather have the japanese make the movie just like they did with Death Note. so piss off.
and yes you can send me the geek mails now assholes. because your waisting your time
They announced it in 2003, in 2006 WETA and GAINAX sat and down and signed a contract to make a trilogy, in 2007 they had raised over half the $120 Million budget, and just last year a producer was named to the project.
Also, two words: Gundam Saviour.
Live Action, Japanese made, and it sucked, really REALLY sucked.
Sorry, but the Japanese are just as liable as any western studio, at least with WETA we're promised some quality and Evangelion's creator's input.
well even if they did make this movie im pretty sure that is gonna suck just like the Dragon Ball movie. if you are very smart enough to know that a movie is gonna be good or not then you should at least see it from this one.
LOL even if they make this movie. for everyone who is smart enough to know if a movie is gonna be good or not im sure that this Evangelion movie is gonna suck just like the Dragon Ball movie!!
If the movie project doesn't fall through in the time I manage to graduate from film school and persue a career (if that happens) and I still feel keen on taking this up, I'd take helm and make sure everything in the movie worked and it compliments the source material perfectly.
But of course, this is just a silly little fantasy for now so all I can say is, I can see it working better if they made a trilogy so they may have more room to expand the storyline and pace it well. That's my views.
I detect a slight bit of sarcasm in his voice when he was first given the DVD cover. It's almost like he's saying "Oh, whoop-de-freaking doo...I get to sign yet another EoE DVD cover..."
I would describe eva as a post apocalyptic, coming to age story, that borrows losely from religions story of the end of the world, and gets it high on LCD, if the movie seems to turn into anything but that, it will fail with the fans.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Westernization sux. People are such rasist, they hate everything >_> FMA Ed's words. I'm tierd of pointing the obvious over and over :S
The movie will success only if Gainax produce it 100%
other will just ruin it.
I'm Serbian, I'm from Europe, and I like the original even if the aliens made it, not Japs. Any changes to make it look more cool and less cruel will only ruin it. NGE is cruel and its realistic, its not a fairytale like LOTR. And it should remain that way!
I dont think you should compare LOTR to NGE, because LOTR is Fantasy.. and just because it is fantasy doesnt mean that the special effects guys (which is basically all they are doing) can't do realistic.
Your ideas on the director fkn shit up, is a true concern though, because they would be making the movie for a western audience.
True words. Asuka is German, but the other characters are japanese, they look, and act it too.
Fans would be confused if Elijah Woods or a Texan were being being overly apologetic for their faults, AND NOT be considered cowardly. Social context like that would be warped and ruined.
Imagine 'Battle Royale' with the cast from '90210'. Horrifying... it's either they go all the way or not at all.
Gainax has free license to "spice" up the plot with their new 4 movies.
...They're not, nor should they, they're a company that specializes in animation, not live action, making them do it is like the metaphorical fish out of water, it's outside of their element, their experience, better to let the tried true hands of the genre do the job for them (I' am of course talking of WETA) while relying on the creator for advise on how to stay true to Evangelion's core (which they are going to do).
I'm with you, especially since they Japanese didn't bother making one themselves. It'd be nice to see people interested in the production and the bautiful script writing of EVA rather than it's country of origin.
