  • The dislikers were to busy listening to this beautiful piece of music that they pressed the wrong button.

  • when i hear this i dont hear ''winter'' i hear a revenge

  • This is a very "bored" video. =p

  • in my view, gil shaham is the best violinist of the world.

  • best interpretation Ive heard :)

  • I like this rendition best =)

  • I liked it

  • I don't know if this piece can be played any better. His phrasing and clarity of tone are beyond words.

  • what a shame this video only gets 168 052 views. Why would anyone have ears if not to listen to this ?

  • the only thing i can say bad about this is that the scenery in the background kinda ruins the song because you should be making a mental image of what the song brings to you. not someone else s view of the song

  • @stevofan1 I agree. I guess they tried to add more of the mood to the piece but it's not the winter picture I got from listening to this song. It's definitely an imagination piece.

  • when i hear this music i "HEAR" not winter... i hear funeral march.

  • I keep coming back to this video. This version is just amazing.

  • Perfect !!!

  • cuanto extraño este violin

  • 2 suckers! idiot... never understand the music

  • Gil Shaham has some of the cleanest violin playing of any violinist, dead or alive. He's an absolute joy to watch and listen to...I don't like Vivaldi much but Shaham just brings so much life to it that I find myself going teary-eyed all the same.

  • omg lol he is so good... just look at the way he enjoys the song...

  • PERFECT!!!!!

  • Truly awesome! I love winter and listening to this made me love it even more!

  • Where is the "best violin music ever" button???????????

  • one word: ORGASM!!!! OH MY GODDDDDDD, this is intense D:

  • This performance is boosted by the recording technology.

  • a single tear drops down. its odd how a cold song can warm a cold soul

  • Classic music is the sound of life

  • I don't like this, I LOVE this!

  • Awesome !

The ending of this movement is wonderful. ^^

  • Gil shaham is a wonderful violinist. I remember asking my violin teacher Eriko Sato (1:19) how it felt to play with him, she said he was a remarkable violinist. An exceptional, talented violinist.

  • The Cembalo and amazing Violin; I guess this is exactly how Vivaldi would have intended it to sound like when the wrote the score!

  • divin.....no comments***** , monicul -

  • best version...

  • Manhattan literally shuts down during a blizzard. The individual looking at TV's metaphorically represents the emptiness of the streets during such an event with the backdrop being its majestic skyscrapers. I should know, I live there.

  • Best recording of Vivaldi. Amazing articulation. Effective atomosphere.

  • @Jakomancer - Hmm...no.

  • the best part was the guy shoveling

  • 1:07 sounds like runrunrunrun brrrrr runrunrunrun brrrrrr.... think about it :P

  • @ 1:19 she's like "Damn, he's gonna steal the show AGAIN..."

  • @redshark618 or she just remembers she left the oven on at home..:p

  • finally i found a movement from the winter i really enjoys, this is the right tempo and it also have a cembalo which most versions lacks. I can only say one word about this video- bravo!!!!

  • The cleanest, clearest, tidiest version I've ever heard, the articulation is immaculate.

  • This is by far my favorite rendition of this song.

  • i remember one time a group of kids played this in my high school talent show... after they were done, most of the crowd (these are teenagers, mind you) gave them a standing ovation... they were going crazy. it was so epic.

  • amazing

  • I'll never understand why this piece of music requires funky pictures, cut aways, and darkness.... Could we PLEASE just see the artist do his work??? You know, like every other Shaham piece I've watched today. He plays fanatically and I'd like to feature him, not a city street.

  • I'll never understand why this piece of music requires funky pictures, cut aways, and darkness.... Could we PLEASE just see the artist do his work??? You know, like every other Shaham piece I've watched today.

  • I saw this vid as a teen and it moved me to delve deeper in classical music. However, Mr Shaham remains my absolute fave. I don't know much about violins but I can pick his out because his playing is unique.

  • I just heard Shaham at Tanglewood play ziguenerweisen and Navarra with his wife. It was quite epic.

  • what a gorgeous and crisp performance

  • i hope i can someday play like dat..every time i hear some good playing like dis i get inspired..lol

  • EPIC!!

  • Gorgeous. I love the violin in this. Gil Shaham is brilliant!

  • Did anyone else notice the lady at 1:20?

  • shaham's "ziguenerweisen" is among the best too...

  • Vivaldi foi um grande compositor e violinista)Gil Shaham toca violino divinamente)))É uma pena que esse grande compositor Vivaldi, no final da vida dos esquecidos, dos doentes e desamparados morreu na pobreza completo((( R.I.P

  • This is one of the best version and arrangement I have ever heard

  • Truly Amazing ! I have found myself in joy with tears, this man and his Orchestra can perform complicated performance...... imagine ever thinking for such stimulating music. I bow to all of those that have dedicated themselves to make "History" with beautiful colors.

  • I prefer the original tbh, this is not bad either imo just a bit too fast and somehow I sense less emotion in it.

  • @ragnakh yea, felt like they had to play it and go.

  • Soooo hot!!!!!!! I love this song...

  • When I am listening this music,I am feeling Winter

  • Just broke up

  • Beautiful video. Timeless music. Thanks for posting

  • this video must be old, he looks very young here!

  • perfect! amazing. beautiful...

  • I feel the coldness in the music.. it makes me to shiver, amazing! Gil Shaham with Orpeo chamber orchestra!

  • @e1nangja It's Gil Shaham and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra... I had the original CD

  • This is by far my favourite interpretation and arrangement.

  • So clean! :D

  • amazing perfect !

  • Shaham is the only one that i can say is too good like Frederico playing winter.

  • Gil is definitely one of the best, this rendition made me cry.

  • @peiboy genius, beyond prodigy and words to describe his talent and his performance.

  • beautiful music, i greatly appreciate this work of creativity

  • cool..

  • love it!

  • Shaham's vivaldi four season is my favorite so far..The way he interprets is fresh, clean and almost quite modern, , but still holding classical quality of sounds, emotion, and feelings.

  • Este hombre es genial!

  • It is so chillingly breath-taking.

  • Divine !

  • Yo gurl, I been thinking about dat booty...(I hope u a grrl, else that culd be akward).

  • Merveilleux ! J'adore les 4 saisons de Vivaldi !

  • I liked your comment. tru dat. i love violin music 2.

I bet your hot. I think I'll subscribe.

  • Unbelievable! Everytime I listen to this I am blown away!

  • this is such a beautiful song!

  • vivaldi is absolutely a genius

  • favorite piece of music ever composed. it is abso-fucking-lutely ice cold

  • This is with the Orpheus Chamber orchestra, yes?

  • he is my mother cousin!

  • Very nice. I still prefer nigel's piece a bit more.

  • i'm speechless

  • breathtaking

  • Well Done. Interesting all the superlative statements here. Aside from the excellent video and Shaham's motivated confidence, what sets this apart? I, for one, noticed that the cadence is strictly metronomic. Many performances of this piece are fairly bizarre in interpretation; But I think many people enjoy a baroque piece that keeps the beat and maintains that (modern) need for rhythm! Here, they hardly even ritard at the end, and that's hard to do! ha ha

  • I was directed here from a Nigel Kennedy video and I came to compare in my mind but I was already defensive toward Nigel, but this person has a BEAUTIFUL take on Vivaldi. SO pure and clean in their playing.

    Wonderful.

  • This man is absolutely wonderful in this video. Well played!

  • ישראלים שליטה!!!!!!!

  • This is perfect! I'm still recovering from watching it. His interpretation of this is impeccable. The music video is also wonderful. I've always thought of the Four Seasons being set in Vivaldi's time, however, this shows how classical music is timeless, because the emotions that Vivaldi felt when writing this piece can still be felt today, not only by musicians. If anyone ever tells me that Classical Music doesn't belong in modern times, I will honestly freak out.

  • it was so intense until 2:50 X(

    still brilliant though

  • brilliant though what? 2:50 was a recording mistake, not a violinist's mistake....

  • I didnt say anything about the violinist

Theres nothing to be said after "though" too

that sound at 2:50 just distracts me

  • it didn't distracted me until i saw you pointing out TT

  • Breathtaking! This ensemble's dynamic, impeccably rhythmic, wonderfully layered, and acutely toned interpretation of this piece amounts to one of the best recordings I've ever heard. The hollow, crisply crystalline notes are as coldly elegant as the snowflakes they are meant to invoke, while the tempo is the blizzard which drives them on its frosty winds and covers the ground with a gelid glaze. Ladies and gentlemen, this is art.

  • nicest version i have ever heard so far.

  • Absolutely incredible...his intonation is impecable; his rhythm almost amazningly perfect; his tone clear and crystaline. My favorite violinists havealways been Maxim Vengerov and Anne-Sophie Mutter, but I may have to reconsider adding another to my list...

  • what a nice melody he plays!

    I really rispect him.

  • Favorite of the four seasons!

  • hey in baroque style the trill always starts with the upper note....many great ppl start frm the lower note...yyy????

  • BRAVO, I loved the video, great job!

  • My Fav Of all the 4 seasons

  • dear violinlsn i totaly agree with you, and in my opinion this is da best performance of this piece, let em speak fool, they just dont understand, i guess their favourite performance is Julia Fisher's, she cant even hold da tempo

  • Julia Fischer has best played second part of winter (Largo) I ever heard. Noone has played it so emotional as she did.

  • Just because you think you know everything about classical music yall dont have to critisize him.. he is probably one of the greatest violin players in the world and most people dont ever get this good without hard work everyday!

  • uhm...first 4 notes i dont really like...after 4 notes its ok..but..it sounds little silly...i dont know why..

  • It is dissonant for the first few notes, then it resolves itself, which is probably why you don't like the beginning; it is dissonant.

  • exactly...^^ yea

  • In the begining after the three measures of rest for the violins, Vivaldi wrote it so that only the first four notes (Bb) should be played as a trill, NOT all of the rest. With all of the other stoccato notes being a trill, like what you have done, it's to much for this style that Vivaldi had created. Sorry, but you've ruined Vivaldi's excellent work by TRYING to improvise, but sorry....improvising classical is not your greatest strengths.

  • brilliant

  • wow I love this song

  • man the violin he has is good quality

  • Bravo!! Thank you.

  • the music is amazing, the choice of images is horrible.

Nothing like the mood of the music.

  • beautiful!!!

  • If you close your eyes and just listen to the music, you can actually visualise a terrible snowstorm and the fear of being in one.

  • Fear? Magnificience...

  • come to montreal in february, and we'll see how you feel then ;-)

  • Try coming to the U.S. and upper Michigan or Buffalo, N.Y. When you have to walk on the snow and push poles down to find out where your car is parked then you'll see what "Winter" really feels like. This is beautiful music, but it still sends chills down my spine and reactivates old memories even though I fled the North for warmer climates 34 years ago.

  • Beautifully tense.

  • So beautiful! it overwhelms me with emotion!Thank you so much for posting this masterpiece!

  • I think this version of Vivaldis Winter is the closest you can come to perfect.

  • at 2:50 there is a funny sound.

    Someone burping?^^

  • ya it did sound like that but maybe it was just some sound error or something. cudnt be gil shaham or the orchestra burping. the recording incharge people wud surely cut it.

  • this guy owns any other player attempting to play this .

  • Wow. This is amazing, I have a hard time believing it.

  • beautiful... VIVALDI was awesome

  • He is Awesome!

  • i like it how he smiles because he knows that all his hard work and thousands of hours of playing has paid off and made him one of the world's best violinists

  • You said everything. (I study violin since 2006)

  • lol i love how you said that.

Its so true. and maybe one day Ill have that feeling too.

  • @hillkids I don't think that's why he smiles

  • @hillkids i think he smiles because he just enjoys the music

  • Haha this looks like it belongs on MTV. Gil Shaham is awesome. My favorite.
