Great melody. Baffling, really, how a rock star with no musical training in terms of composition manages to create such outstanding melodies all the time...
Yes, I say that he would need the training if he wanted to be considered as a serious composer, but I think this isn't a bad place to start for the guy who single-handedly invented heavy metal.
In my opinion, there was no song before "Helter Skelter" that so clearly exhibited all the musical characteristics that we associate with modern-day heavy metal.
And, yes, I shouldn't have said "single-handedly." One, because the rest of the band kind of helped him out with the composition of the music, per se, and two, because he was, of course, prompted to write "Helter Skelter" on a kind of musical dare that consisted in writing the loudest, dirtiest-sounding rock song.
Ecce Cor Meum (Latin for Behold My Heart) is the 4th classical album by Paul McCartney. The album was released on September 25, 2006 by EMI Classics. An oratorio in four movements, it is produced and orchestrated by John Fraser, written in Latin and English. Sir Paul was invited by Anthony Smith (President of Magdalen College) to compose something for a concert hall opening ceremony, but composition was delayed by the death of Linda McCartney.
The American Boychoir performed ECM @ the NA Premier. These boys learned the score cold in three days, having just come off of their Fall Tour. What a thrill to watch your 13-yr-old son on stage w/ Gavin Greenaway and Sir Paul McCartney!
We're doing this beautiful piece, this semester, all 5 movements. God, I love Sir Paul McCartney's music. He is amazing, and this woman's lovely voice only underscores the complex, rich harmonies and emotions written into the music.

I hadn't heard this piece. I'm pleasantly surprised to hear something this worthy from Paul McCartney.
She seems to have owned it, although I haven't heard it by anyone else yet.
