quick handy tip for getting your wifi working on ubuntu,
1. install 'windows wireless drivers' via the 'synaptic package manager'
2 insert your cd that has the wifi driver for windows XP or Vista
3 run 'windows wireless drivers'
4 click on 'install new driver' then click on 'new location'
5 point to the directry on the cd that has the .inf file and click Install and rest is simple.
6 configure wireless card as normal.

She just picked the wrong computer; You either select Open Source PCs or the regular ones. You don't get to the laptop selection and then the OS and it will have both Linux or Windows. Dell separates those laptops so this doesn't happen. She is a moron and needs to get enrolled in 1st grade to start all over again.

Wow.... I dont believe this. Server not found.. Learn to connect(same way as you do on windows(plug in, or enter wireless info) and your verizon air card is supported. Open office not compatible with word, Flat out lie. Looks like windows, OMG WTF, No it doesnt. I have so many issues with this. Number 1. The ordering pages had the ubuntu logo on it. So 99.999999% chance IT SAID IT WAS UBUNTU. And its never to late to go back to windows. Just buy it. 29 news need to check facts.

Biggest epic failure I've seen in a while... Getting onto wireless networks with Ubuntu is easy enough for my 6 year old brother to do it. And open-office writer is equivilant to MS Word, Its can even save to MS Word .doc files for GOD SAKES!

This made me cry a little bit inside. It's quite obvious that they have no clue what they're talking about. Openoffice is most definitely compatible with word and the verizon disk shouldn't even be necessary to connect to the internet. This may sound rude, but I hate when the media butchers and/or criticizes things they don't understand.

ifconfig ! Maybe if they gave her a machine with Slackware on it, but Ubuntu is very easy to go on line with, everything is autodetected and her Verizon supplied router would be setup alrady, so all she had to do was plug the fscking thing in to the router.

I know!!! Lets give her the link to gentoo and let her work her way out to her website. Then ask her to compile the kernel module for the 845 Intel wireless card on Debian and see how she fares. To handle computers you must have something many people lack: curiosity.
