I have those wheels on my 96 850 Turbo. I don't remember the name either but my 850 is the "Platinum Edition" cause of the color I guess. You don't see these wheels very often but I like them for stockers.
Those aren't GLT/LPT wheels. They look similar though. I can't remember that style's name. At any rate, as both a VW and a Volvo owner, I can say my T5 wagon was faster than a 12V VR6 even when stock. It now makes 239 @ wheels and 263 wtq (chip, turbo back)...unless the VR is boosted, there's no way a N/A VR6 will keep up. My gutted Stage 4 G60 is almost dead even with my Volvo.

vr6 is an old engine with only 12v it sucks compared to newer engines introduced such as the volvo 850 engine which has more horsepower and more valves. Gutted
not the facelift volvo no mine is a 1997 with the revised engine. Its only a standard volvo 2.5 20v engine but after the chipping it now produces just over 200bhp for a non turbo engine. its beaten a vw golf vr6 and it would sure beat a jetta, dont get me wrong i like the vw's and the jetta is tidy with a smooth engine but its rather pants when you've driven an 850 its in a class of its own...
some R's had the 16" wheels in certain markets - I think canada was one of them - they didn't have the R front bumper either as the road surfaces were crap and they would get damaged - either way the Volvo 850 kicks ass
Not really a fair race as they are two totally different cars.
The lighter car will easily pull ahead untill you get to about 80mph and then it's like it's hit a wall where as the Volvo keeps on pulling. By the time you're going past you're doing over 100 to their 90-ish.
GTIs etc are more geared towards the traffic light dash, where as the Volvo is designed for high speed motorway/50mph+ overtaking.
My father had an 850 T5R. Fastest damn car I have ever driven. Though boosting my VR would be the equivalent of that 300kmh family station wagon LOL, cool vid :D
I wouldn't say the T5 is beaten by the GTi of 2003 that's only 180 hp. T5 should beat GTi. GLT on the other hand depends on the year. 93-96 GLT you will beat, 97 might be a draw.
when i raced my 180hp 2003 GTi with the Volvo wagon, i didn't see exactly which volvo badge it is. but it sure look similar to the Volvo in the video here.

You wouldn't say the T5 would be beaten by the Gtiof 2003? I should say not. Either that 850 in the video is not a T5 or it is running on 3 cylinders beacase I have have both an 850 T5 and mk3 Vr6 and the T5 pulls absolutely miles ahead of the Vr6 in seconds.
Same story for applies for the 2003 Gti, it would eat dust against a T5 just as quickly as this Vr6 in the video should have.
My guess would be that this is not a T5 but 4 cylinder low pressure turbo 850.

Good point lamb960, I was just being sarcastic about the cylinders as the T5 should be a lot faster than this this video demonstrates. However, my T5 is pushing 280 bhp and another 100nm or torque than standard so it's difficult for me to remember the difference between standard and tuned but i would expect the T5 to still be a lot faster than this.
When I drive my VR6 after driving the T5, it feels so slow I have keep checking to see if I left the handbrake on!
05027802 Yeah the T5's are a lot faster than most other standard cars id like to have a go with a 280bhp version we dont mod our cars so ours is the factory 225bhp and that sticks you to the seat! i cant imagine what the 280bhp would feel like! to be honest though i wouldnt like to mod the car as we have just had to change all the gaskets below the engine block due to an oil leak caused by 160,000 miles worth of driving with a standard turbo, but to have more power would be even better!
The VR6 is good in first gear and gets progressively worse as you move up through the gears because the power band moves up into the higher revs. By the time you hit third you need to be doing nearly 4000rpm to be in the power band.
To drive the VR6 with any spirit you need to keep the gears low and the revs up. To be honest, unless i'm on the motorway i'm either in second or third gear, forth is useless unless you're planning on 100mph or more.
Ony because it doesn't pull on the VR6 as much as it should (in my opinion), but saying that my T5 is around 280bhp and I've probably forgotten what they are like standard. Meh :)
they never made a 4 cyl 850, they where all 5 pots, however i agree with you and the wheels on the 850 suggest is a lpt which is a 2.5 5cyl. T5s rule!

What happens if you drop a turbo in a VR6? because its on my list for the future.. are there any problems??

many of my VR6 buddies..drop a turbo on their cars..and went around 320-350hp.
try VF engineering or tons of info at VW Vortex forum.
