  • Drivers weren't secured it seems from the driver flying out of the boat. It was around the time that Unlimited Hydroplanes were having fatal crashes where drivers began to be strapped into their boats, and around 1985 was when the F-16 canopy debuted in that class. If it took place in a modern boat, the driver would have just walked away thanks to modern safety harnesses, the enclosed canopy, and HANS device.
