  • fuck you haters. If you don't like it go listen to something else. Jeez

  • what the fuck is this shit

  • Where do they find an 8-9 kid willing to do something like this?

  • How exactly does this sound like children?!

  • I'm kinda scared of kids now.

  • God I wish i could make women scream like that....

  • Like it :)

  • Is there a Peruvian influence in this. Sounds

  • This is one of the most beautiful and touchinh moments in contemporary music. A mother looking for his son It is one of my favorities

  • i really don't understand all of the negativity...if you don't like it, you have total control of the mouse...this type of music isn't for everyone, but there are those of us who can appreciate the nuances and colors and harmonies that modern composers create because they aren't found in mainstream music. to some of us, the same tired chord progressions that support the same tired lyrics become mundane and boring. there is beauty in the unpredictability of this style of music.

  • 9 people are studying this for uni

  • I hate this song lol. Listened to it in a Music Appreciation class a couple of years ago and just had the feeling, "holy shit when will this end".

    But it is all opinions.

It is rape to my ears.

  • I think this work is definitely one that you either love or hate. Personally, I hate it, but like some other people on this, I have to listen to it because I'm studying it (thankfully not in depth). Crumb was definitely not afraid to explore new sounds.

  • Masterpeice

  • Ok. It's official. George Crumb's mother should have had an abortion.

    -M

  • @PelenTan fuck you. Seriously, FUCK YOU for saying what you just said.

  • @PelenTan You're a naughty, naughty person

  • @PelenTan Fuck Off. Crumb is great, your just another random douchebag.

  • @PelenTan You are a weak excuse for a human being.

  • @PelenTan You are arrogant. And you strengthen this work with your stupid remarks. Fuck off.

  • I just love how this piece was created, how they use the piano in a way it wasn't designed to be used. They opened the top and plucked and hammered the strings instead of using the keys to cause the vibrations. That produced a different quality of sound than you typically hear from a piano. The woman's voice was echoing off the inside of the piano and vibrating the strings as well, and that's just awesome to me. I think he got that from growing up in WV, those mountains echo so well.

  • Thank you for posting this!!!

  • if you can't stand it you need it.

  • I have a simultaneous attraction to and revulsion by atonal and/or serial music as well as aeleatory music (John Cage) but I do like this piece. I think it's very creative and expressive. It's actually not atonal at all. I also like the minimalists (Pärt, Glass, et al). I think there's still a lot more that can be expressed tonally and I don't think the diatonic system is by any means dead.

  • By many standards today, Crumb's music is quite tame. Crumb is very traditional in many ways, and, unlike many "avant-garde" composers, he is not afraid of repetition.

Much of his music is hauntingly beautiful and his sound is purely original while his technique is informed by the most rigorous musical knowledge.

  • yes, it's post modernism, but more importantly George Crumb is considered Avant Garde

He was very very popular in the 70's. What you should see is his creative approach to score creation. I think in many ways, he's very groundbreaking. Avant garde is french for advance guard (or be on your guard)

The music is a rebellion against the classic composers while saying, guess what, we of the 30th century can create masterpieces like you did. AND we're going to redefine what is considered music

  • I'm sorry to say so but the version with soprano Jan de Gaetani is far better,

this soprano is so much less intensive in her singing-speaking, miss the spanish fury.

  • A nightmare to study, but a joy to listen to.

  • i swear if this is great music..i could be the best composer in the world..this just sounds like sounds thrown together

  • @uaintmeboy fine then, do it. Compose every note and put it in a deliberate place. because this isnt just a series of random noises, every note you hear is there because the compose intended it that way. And while youre at it, when you write this, perform it too. Any part. Because if youve ever actually seen the score for this thing, you know its a nightmare to follow and play, especially for the singer. If you dont like this sort of thing thats fine but dont knock something you dont understand

  • which movement is this?

  • @waterflute I believe this is the one about "el nino busca su voz" or something like that

  • @waterflute i believe it's postmodern, i'm studying it right now for a project

  • This has been one of my favorite pieces since I was a kid. I may have been the only 12 year old walking around school humming it. I think it's a gorgeous marriage of a trippy text and these sounds that still haunt me all these years later. Easily one of the best pieces of the 20th century. And, when it comes to music, I am damn picky. Get the whole album!

  • @ComposerWW you hum this in school?... it sounds creepy...

  • One of my favorites since high school! Crumb is a modern genius. Among the ranks of Glass, Ligeti, and Stravinsky.

  • This is a modern classic. I feel sorry for those who can't hear the wondrous beauty.

  • I...don't know what to think of it...kinda makes me uneasy. Not something I would want to hear on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

  • For some reason, after listening to this, I'm now a little bit scared of sitting alone in my basement and I sort of hate kids now.. :(

  • not easy on the ears

  • Admittedly it's an aquired taste...

  • its like a dying cat

  • its a weird song its cool but at the same time its horrible

  • I can't wait to hear this at the Royal Albert Hall!

  • Oh shit everybody! This guy says it's not music. Stop listening now! Scholars the world over are all wrong! Remember: music has a very limited definition and can only be done one way. Color inside the lines, folks!

Nobody cares about your ignorant opinion.

  • and just like everyone says to everyone's hate, no one really cares what you say either, nor does anyone care to what I have to say...Personally I can't stand this, it's rape to my ears. but I have to listen to it for my class...therefore I can't turn it off.

  • @bstearman18 Same situation here. LOL.

  • @t3hwasabi

OMG I totally forgot about this God awful song thing until I got your message! lol! I feel your pain...then and now!

  • @bstearman18 Which class is it? modern music?

  • @Remoxx nah, it was just music appreciation.

  • @bstearman18 exactly.

  • @bstearman18 Strange. When I didn't have internet, I was dreaming to listen to such music!

  • @bstearman18 me too..

  • @bstearman18 Same here man..

  • @bstearman18 hahha the same mate,,,, we should pass the exam,.

  • your sarcasm is lame

  • one of my favorites! wish the whole thing was on here.
