@williamwallacee Hi I'm from TEFL Scotland, contact us on info@teflscotland.co.uk with any quetions you may have (though Joe here who used to run i to i TEFL is our MD!). Take a look at our vids here , channel is 'TEFLdaddy'
hi!! im italian, my english is nearly as good as a native speaker, my accent is neutral (easy to understand, especially for beginners), and i really want to find a teaching position in tokyo (would it be possible to make the course even if im not a native speaker??) and at the end there'll be some kind of test to pass??? thanks!!! :D
@ooMATTiAoo Hi, that's great you're thinking of teaching in Tokyo, but you'd be unlikely to find work there as a non-native speaker. Most employers are pretty set on wanting native speakers and there's quite a lot of competition for jobs.
However, don't let that put you off teaching abroad - China's a good place to look for TEFL jobs as a non-native speaker, especially if you're TEFL certified. Demand there's really really high, so they'll consider non-native speakers.
a full intensive tefl course is about £900. im not the brightest person, i wonder if its worth doing as i want to teach in thailand. anyone found it any cheaper ??
@robboultimate Hi Robbo, you can teach in Thailand without a full intensive TEFL course - for example our 120 hour TEFL course costs just £369 if you book before January 31st - or the 20 hour classroom course costs £219. Both will help you find teaching jobs in Thailand - if you'd like any more information our TEFL experts are always here to help on 0800 093 2552.
CHEESY..... Is a cheesy sense of humour a prerequisite for this course?
Teaching in China is less monitored than other countries,so a weekend course is fine for China but not other countries. How can anybody be a GOOD, EXPERIENCED teacher of the largest language in the world, by just learning how to do so in one weekend?
Cheesy sense of humour definitely not a pre-requisite, but can help :)
Totally agree that a 20 hour weekend course is not sufficient for teaching in certain countries, which is why i-to-i run courses up to 120 hours - people have the choice as to what level of preparation they want depending on how long they have to get TEFL certified and where they want to teach.
@myitoi atefl scotland now do 140hour course, i am booked on for the 20hour course for this october. and the lady on the telephone told me that 20hours is enough to get a job in europe.. so thats what i hope to do. then when i get a job i shall save up and pay for the rest of my tefl course

I'm sorry, but the vast majority of self respecting schools will not even consider those with a weekend cert in TEFL. A month long intensive is a better option if you're serious about it.
I'm not sure this is the case - I did i-to-i's weekend TEFL course and had no problem getting a job at a decent school in China - I think it's just a question of how much time and money you have to spend on getting trained up.
good video, The trainer is very motivated and energetic, because he shows you how to teach so he is like coacc,BUT try teaching around 6 hours a day and be as positive and motivated as he is.I can bet that after a few months you will bored with it and soon lose your drive.
the important thing about a teaching course is teaching practice on reading, writing, listening and grammar. I to I also offers a real TEFL course from TEFL international. I have no doubt they have good stuff in this course for a teacher but if you want to be a real teacher just do the month course. I am a DOS in Beijing and we dont recognize this weekend cert. CELTA, TEFL international and Delta are the best. They produce the best teachers.
Can you tell me: Is it possible to do TEFL/TESOL course with very little qualifications? I have 7-or-so GCSE's, only 1 x A-Level and a B-TEC. Needless to say, I don't have a degree. I would like to teach English in Barcelona primarily. Thanks.
Yes is the answer but there are some exceptions. Just check out there website. Some countries request that you have a degree with your TEFL/TESOL. I dont think spain does. You wont have much of a choice on where your based though.
I didn't do the weekend course but I did do the 40-hour online course and the 20-hour grammar awareness module. This organization can provide basic, entry-level TEFL certification but if you want more, do an onsite course of at least 120 hours and six hours of actual teaching practicum (the i-to-i TEFL weekend provides only simulated teaching practice).

I did the Cambridge RSA CELTA course in London in 1996 and moved to Madrid soon afterwards. A very good decision and an excellent experience.
