ya it extreeeeemely similar with pencak silat-elbow i learn!!??? muay boran...a bit different than muay thai hmmm interesting ill do aresearch wich one is older. i thought the oldest was filipino kali since they are all oldest /with all respect real indonesian" that migrated to the east... so kali is silat for me...

FMA was hugely influenced by silat. look at the Srivajaya and Majapahit empires for a start.

However you have to be aware that the countries boundaries were put in place by European colonials so 'who had it first' kind of becomes erroneous. Malaysia, Indonesia, Fillipines are all of the same Austronesian stock. The martial Arts of these regions have similarities but also maintain their regional 'flavours'.

I believe Guru Jak's family style originates from Java and it shows.

However when you get cultural diffusionalism at the Malay/Thai border you are going to get a lot of elbows and low kicks. Muay Thai has them, Silat has them....combine the two.... :)

@Silatbule that "vijaya" word was converted to "visaya", the name of the group of central islands in our country but often referred to the people themselves.

a hybrid of the two arts, i think by combining the two, muay thai and silat, you fill in the gaps that both have, not all but i think it makes for a more even more efficient art.
