awesome, awesome, awesome video!!!! Ive been training intensely for the past couple months for a half iron man, but im so scared that I may not make it…… any last minute advice??Last week I saw the movie, “Discover the Gift”, which talks about being true to yourself and do whatever you do best giving 100% of you all the time. I loved it! check it out!!! facebook. com/discoverthegift
Do you know that Christianity is correct? The world around us reveals that G-d DOES exist, and the historical evidence reveals that Jesus Christ really did come to this earth and there is overwhelming evidence that Jesus Christ really did physically rise from the dead. Jesus is coming again and the signs of the end times that were foretold in the Bible are coming to pass.
Just to watch give me chills...I've done 2 sprint Triathlon's...this year..we'll play with the olympic distance...and someday...I will meet the ironman!!
crowie ran his marathon in 2hr 50min..that's running 42km in aprox 4min each KM!! and that's AFTER biking hard for 4.5 hr....sweet jesus. praise the ironlord
I like the music plus the race of coarse. Ironman Triathlons is one of the most life changing/challenging experiences a person can go through. Its also fun to watch.

Nice tune to go along with the clip.
What's with the wetsuits? When'd they start allowing them at Kona? It's been a while for me (over 20 years) but I recall the water temperature being around 80F there. Has that changed? It's getting a little silly (80F wetsuits, compression stockings, etc.) in this pursuit of "another minute or two off your time".
They are speed suits not wetsuits. They mainly wear them for protection from the jellyfish and to decrease drag. This is the world championship. The compression socks do actually work especially for recovery. When you go 140.6 miles youneed all the help you can get in recvoery.
By the way, Mark McGwire today (finally) acknowledged he was on steroids much of his baseball career. But, he says, it was really to get over injuries. Good Lord! Absolutely no one cheats or take short-cuts!!
Sure use your compression socks and swimming hand-paddles and motor-paced bike drafting in training, but race day it's back to man/woman, the elements and your will. The aid stations are there because 2000 competitors each with their own family strewn across the course would get a little silly.
Also, I was stung by a swarm of Portuguese-men-o-war in the Atlantic ocean the year before Hawaii. I survived.

Well, none of us that finished Hawaii in 1988 needed that extra help. We recovered after the race was over. At what point does it become "OK, engines on the bikes" too? Seriously, they are now busy trying to unwind all the speeded-up speed-suits from competitive pool swimming because it was making a mockery with new world records in every preliminary heat. That's my point.

And everyone has a laminated copy of a prescription for an inhaler now too because they all have "_______- induced asthma" (fill in the blank yourself). It's absurd.
I never had any desire to pee during the whole race, although I was taking in liquids. This was in 1987,which was one of the hottest and most windy races in Kona.I ended up with 6 bags of IV fluid at the end,but I finished, although it took me 12 hours and 31 minutes.Watching the age groupers cross the line every year still chokes me up, as I know how they feel at what they have been through.
Great quality! Funny story about peeing on the go. I did a 70.3 few months back, at the last minute a decided to move my Bento box from the front to the back. I placed it under my saddle. Well during the bike I had to go, so I went. Who knew that a Bento Box could hold that much pee. I saw Rudy finish the IMAZ, pretty cool. I am looking forward to do IMAZ next year.
i did take a leak whilst on the bike during IMUK, but as for a no. 2, well i just had to stop at the porto for that one. you have to get a fine balance when it comes to nutrition. too little and you'll bonk, too much and you'll end up with stomach cramps
You piss in the sea, some piss on the bike or as they run - it can be done, some stop at the side of the road and find a bush. there is a vid on here that shows. But shoes full of whizz aint no fun..
But an athlete know the nutrition and this race will eat up or sweat out whatever u got in you, so they tend not to need to go.
Actually, if you are properly providing yourself nutrition, you do need to go. As you said, they piss themselves and sometimes worse, that is just what the pros do, amateurs tend to use the port-o-potties. It is easy to replace your water loss with bottles...it is the calories and especially the salt loss that is the problem. By rehydrating with water and sports drinks, you continue to sweat...which drags all your salt to your skin.
I can speak to this considering I spent over an hour in the portapotties at Kona. Most pros and fast people learn to pee while swimming, stand up on the bike and let the pee fly back and pee on themselves. Not for lack of trying, I couldn't do it. Now if you have to do the other thing...as my uspet tummy made me do...there were portapotties about every 15 miles on the bike and every mile on the run. I visited most of them. :( Not fun!
a replay button please

serious question: what happens if you have to go to the bathroom during an ironman? do they set up portable toilets?
