Actually, it makes perfect sense. I explained why fetal movements prior to week 22 are not reactions to felt pain. It's because the fetus has not yet developed the physiology of consciousness. I never said anything about how this state of affairs justifies or doesn't justify anything. However, whether I feel pain or no, I would be conscious of the loss of the hand and I would object. I am sixteen years old, and have a cousin who is just a few weeks younger. When she was fourteen, she had an abortion. If my cousin would have kept her baby, the baby would not have had a good life. I've always tried to defend Elisabeth, but her comment about women having less abortions was one of the dumbest and most sick things I've ever heard anyone say. Whoopi is right; no one wants to have an abortion. It's a hard decision, and women who have abortions do so because of personal reasons. Obviously not all have; sexual education can be of pretty poor quality, especially in the US with its miserable 'abstinence only' approach, but that's far from the only cause of unwanted pregnancy and it's not a 'compromise' between the two positions to try and mitigate unwanted pregnancy.

If you are "pro-choice", please watch a sonogram of an actual abortion. (They are rare to find. But one, from the 1980s, is on YouTube: Silent Scream part 3.) Watch the fetus try to avoid the abortionist who is killing her. Does she feel pain? Judge for yourself. (Of course, none of us know, firsthand, how much pain she feels: That's because none of us -- including Whoopi Goldberg -- were killed, in utero, by an abortionist.

In that case, if you don't want to get pregnant don't have sex! No contraceptive method is 100% effective. Abortion is MURDER of an innocent LIFE. Not some convenient way to hide your promiscuous lifestyle. And before you quote rape and incest, this makes up less than 1% of abortion statistics... And even then I am Pro-life.

I won't quote rape or incest, in fact i never have for my position, because you are right, if you are against abortion for the life of the fetus then you should be against it in ALL cases. What i support is a choice for who when and how my body is used, even if it results in the death of another. NO other person has a right to use ur body without ur expressed ongoing consent, and i don't think that should have exceptions, not for my husband, or my fetus, or a stranger. Have a great day!

The only consent given was for the man's body, not his child to use her body. My life and my body is more valuable than anyone elses, that is why we all have the right to choose who when and how our bodies are shared. I am sorry that you hate someone that you don't even know. The embryo is incapable of feeling pain for at least the first 22 weeks. The latest research indicates that the 28th week is more likely. Prior to that, the pain receptors exist but are not hooked up to the brain. The reactions you see are called unconscious nociception, and are similar to the reactions we see when chickens, flop around, run around, or cluck after having their heads cut off. Check the wikipedia page on neonatal perception for accurate information. Silent Scream is propaganda.

Actually, it makes perfect sense. I explained why fetal movements prior to week 22 are not reactions to felt pain. It's because the fetus has not yet developed the physiology of consciousness. I never said anything about how this state of affairs justifies or doesn't justify anything. However, whether I feel pain or no, I would be conscious of the loss of the hand and I would object. The fetus is not conscious.

Is Elisabeth being PC by going against her typical egoist Republican philosophies by saying not every child deserves the bond? Or is she just fulfilling it because she wouldn't want to pay higher taxes? Whatever her motivation, I disagree with her. I think every child--rich or poor--should have a $5000 bond on birth. No matter how much money you have, it can be very difficult to find a job, and something like this is a great incentive/safety net. If only Hillary were president!

I am sixteen years old, and have a cousin who is just a few weeks younger. When she was fourteen, she had an abortion. If my cousin would have kept her baby, the baby would not have had a good life. She could have given it up for adoption, where the baby would have a good life. I do not believe that the baby deserved death because my cousin made an irresponsible decision.
