Greatest after effect tutorial ive ever seen. So easy to follow. Fire looks amazing, thanks a ton. Didnt even have to watch it, i could leave it on in the backround and listen to it and i finished the fire in about 15m tops and i started after effects just 2 days ago. Truly an amazing tutorial. Keep it up! :)
WOOT DUDE THNX!! great help...so is there a way that blurry only affect the fire but not everything behind it??? just asking.....But thnx man great vid
Good effect, still looks a little am though. I would say that the end result would only be good for an animation, not VFX. Keep working on it, but you helped me get started.
Can i ask how powerfull is your CPU? (at the beggining i though that 2 x 3ghz is enough for AE (it is for 3D modelling), and now i know i was wrong) :/
@rachetandclank3 2 x 3GHz is very much enough (I recorded this video on my laptop that had a 1.6GHz processor). What's even more important is RAM. I'd say you need at least 4GB or RAM to make AE run pretty smoothly.
Right now I'm using a 6 x 3.2GHz machine with 8 GB of RAM.
@Wuzzysbrand06 10" netbook (i have that one too) is enough then? But what about AE 64bit cpu requirement? Such netbook doesn't own it :/ (did i missed something?)
@rachetandclank3 64bit is not your CPU, it's the operating system. You'll need a 64bit version of Windows or Mac OS to run AE CS5. For CS4 and below you don't need 64bit.
Also, that notebook you have might be enough to run it, but if the specs are low it's gonna run really slow, so it's better to install it on your 2x3GHz computer.
@ethanville For simple stuff but I have loaded some projects that when I went to render I had 100megs to NO FREE MEMORY LEFT on my 8 gigs. FIrst time in the 2 years I have had this machine that I ran out of memory with 8 gigs.
I would say that when dealing with lots of layers and particle effects across multiple layers that 16 gigs is what you need, or should I say in two of the projects I loaded up and tried needed.
Really great tutorial that was of great help! And you are entertaining! Your reaction when you changed the vector blur amount was funny. Keep making tutorials!
@TheSupernaturalShows Well you can try adding this to a picture. Set up everything and then just save the frame as an image. I believe it's Composition-> Save Frame As-> File and then in the menu choose JPEG Sequence.
@TheSupernaturalShows After you go Composition-> Save Frame As-> File, the Render Queue will open up. There's an Output Module setting where it usually says "Photoshop" by default. Click on the word and the Output Module Settings window will show up. In the Format menu you can choose JPEG Sequence.
@thedoctorspage Well just put your videoclip into that composition and make sure it's below the fire. It should show through since the fire is semi-transparent.
@thevfxbro Hey! Yeah I think I already saw your reel on videocopilot :) nice channel. I've just been focusing on music lately so that's why there's no new motion graphics and stuff on mine :P
@rslodge No. Once you have one you can duplicate it as many times as you want. You can also scale and position the other copies as needed. If you wanna have a slight change you can do that just for one of the copies for instance change the gravity parameter for some reason. So no need to do this all over again. Thanks for checking out the video!
Thanx for the tut! I found out that if I set the particle type as motion square, instead of bubbles i get a more realistic fire! Anyway thats only my opinion ! Thanx again!
"Whoa you can create fire with your mouse" "Yeah, that's me" WTF? LOL.
But the tutorial I found very useful. Please make more. I'd like to see something on "realistic water", if you even need my opinion :) Thank you. I thumbed up :)
@ShurikenG Put this fire on top of your video footage and cut out some of the middle part with a feathered mask. Make sure your person is placed right in that hole.
@DarkKram3 Well I think it's more or less the same..however you can achieve a much better effect with Particular since it has a lot more advanced options :)
@7m4k3r Pre-compose everything, then right click on the pre-comp in the timeline and choose Time>Time stretch layer. Increase the time and the fire will be slower.
Very nice. I have seen several fire animations and this is by far the best looking I have seen. I am on a fire department and will use this in our year end slide show dvd. Thanks!
Not quite sure what you're looking for. If you're talking about the sparks and DragonBall kinda stuff shooting out of their hands like in the games you mentioned, you can find tutorials on similar stuff if you search for DBZ tutorials. I've seen some of those around here.
And if you're looking for more realistic stuff you should probably get some stock footage since most of the coolest fire/flame/explosion shots are done using pre-keyed action stock footage.
Make the fire in a separate Composition like in the tutorial first. Then make another Composition with your video. Now take the Fire Composition and drag it into the Video Comp. Since the fire has a perfect alpha channel, all the black will be gone and you'll just see the fire. Then you can place it wherever you want and also rotate, scale etc.
Then in the Render Queue window you'll see your Comp you just made and under the Comp you can change the Output Module (the format, audio options etc) and the "Output to" (where you wanna save it). Then just hit Render...and wait :)
THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH =Dbut one more thing (sorry i know i am becoming tiring) when i put the effects of fire there is a big green x-like thing in the screen..how do you i remove this?i am using cs3
The green X is because you're using a trial version of the CyCore Plug-in Particle World. The only workaround is to buy it.
However, you could add try adding the Color Key effect to your Fire Comp. Select the green from the X with the color picker in the Color Key effect. The X should be less noticable. You can try adding a slight Fast Blur after that. Not sure if this is gonna work out though.
Try changing the Animation parameter to Explosive in the Producer properties and turn the gravity to zero. Then just play with the velocity, resistance and other parameters to get what you're looking for.
I've got two questions. How can you decrease the speed of the fire ? And which program are you using to make the tutorial. I really like the zoom when you are showing something.
Hey thanks for the comment. I'm glad you like the tutorial.
To decrease the speed of the fire you can try lowering the velocity and increasing the resistance parameter. Play with the gravity also.
Another solution would be to just pre-compose everything, then right click on the pre-comp in the timeline and choose Time>Time stretch layer. Increase the time and the fire will be slower.
And the second question:
I used Camtasia Studio 5. You can activate the auto-zoom somewhere in the options :)
However, you can try using Particle Playground or download a trial version of Trapcode Particular from the Trapcode website.
You can basically use any particle system. Just make it somewhat look like fire. Most particle systems should have a gravity option or an equivalent parameter. Make the particles go upwards and apply the effects to an adjustment layer just like in the video.

Go to Effect-->Distort
-Bezier Warp

-CC Bender
-Liquify
-Mesh Warp
and if you have CS3 or CS4 there's also the Puppet Tool.
All those effects can bend your Fire :)
