to find out how high it is you have to follow the formula of h= 1/2 t g^2 g=9.8 or 10 and t= time until you hit the water. This is not including air resistance though

you may be surprised, but that was a 30 meter jump not 20

I calculated on a stop watch, it takes you about 2 seconds from the moment you leave the ground until you touch the water. that's 30 meters.

if you studied a bit of physics, you would learn that earth's gravity pull is about 9.81 m/s^2, in other words, you accelerate by 9.81 m every second ;)

gosh, you must have cheated your way through then...

:guy jumps, 1 second passes, he is accelerates to 9.81 meters/s after 1 second. 2 seconds pass, and he is now at 9.81+9.81 m/s. add both speeds up (distance travelled in the first second and second, and you get 9.81*3 meters. distance: aprox 30 meters.

That of course is supposing he jumps straight. any slight upward acceleration may change the result, but not by much ;)

distance = 9.81*2 = 19.82m

Check out Dana Kunzes 172ft jump. According to your method (by adding up in some weird way), his jump should last for... About 2.4s or so?

Using my approach, is should last for 3.25s. Timing it by hand I got 3.36s, which is within margin of error.

You dont have to guess. simply calculate. All the jumps at the end take 2.1 seconds. height=1/2gt^2 = 1/2(9.8)(2.1)^2 , you get 21.6 meters.
