@g9yx1s. not to mention comparing fraiser to anything with lisa kudrow in it makes you a huge cunt. im sure in your feeble little mind you believe its truth ths show was made simply to poke fun at psychiatry. since "real drs" arent people and dont have any problems of their own. do you ever shut up and listen to your dumbass talk?
g9yx1s. STFU! no one cares about your opinions of a ficticious relationship. OMG get over yourself for just two seconds and enjoy the show or just get out. you are a waste of space if you are going to sit there and criticize fiction for not living up to your real life standards, go fuck yourself
I still watch this show every night. The writing, timing and actors were so good... nothing compares to it. The newer shows just can't hold a candle to it, thank goodness for reruns.
In 'real life', Daphne and Niles would be totally doomed. Because when you bulldoze over other people-- as Daphne and Niles both did - your union will not be blessed. Niles was especially rotten. Saying "I Do" to a woman, and dumping her four days later. No, not nice at all.
I understand the pain of Donny and Mel. I hate when people leave others at the altar and Mel's situation is my worst nightmare. Somehow, I still could care less because everyone always has the choice to take the high road which Donny and Mel are not taking. Plus after 7 damn seasons of anticipation and all the beautiful chemistry between Niles and Daphne this is my favorite part of the series.
the whole concept of social standing in this series bothers me
i don't understand how doctors and psychiatrists of all people could be so childishly attached to other peoples opinions about their personal lives
while watching the caviar episode, i wondered why two seemingly intelligent men would risk going aboard what they think is an illegal boat that is being monitored by Russian mafia just so they can get fish eggs for their friends
maybe it was a subversive joke on the part of the producers
@okchoebag The writers are poking fun at psychiatrists. They are showing that these 'doctors' who supposedly 'fix their patients', are just as messed-up as their patients, maybe more. It's irony. It is Similar to Lisa Kudrow's show, Web Therapy, which also makes fun of shrinks.
One thing Niles should of did was became the husband from hell to make Mel's life a living hell where she would of had to divorce him.. flirt with her friends and let her friends see him out with different women haha. Then she would of had to leave him.
I dated a girl like Mel and I never married her thank God.. I was not as hard up for a woman as Niles was either.. When you have been a long relationship that didn't work no matter if its marriage or not you realize Love Marriage relationship is nothing but a gamble and every good gambler has to know when to HOLD EM KNOW WHEN TO FOLD EM KNOW WHEN TO WALK AWAY KNOW WHEN TO RUN. To quote the Wise words of Kenny Rogers
Speaking as someone that have talk to a lot of divorce men and women.. If you see early signs of something you don't like in marriage GET OUT SOON haha. They will tell you IT DOESN'T GET BETTER..Don't believe that TV culture BS that we can work on it or we can change. That never happens. Niles and Daphne did the right thing. Better that you can admit you made a mistake early rather then being stubborn for 10 years an finally admit it then.
Mel might be a bitch- but Niles did marry her and then start divorcing her three days later. That is... unforgivable. My sympathies are with Donny and Mel, actually.
1.00 - control (repression) over physical display of emotions and serious control issues (personality disorder). I think it's funny how despite the Crane brothers being experts in psychology they chose women who are extremely emotionally unstable. Mind you without psychological instability there would be no drama.
Daphne needs to stop whining about not getting a date. All she has to do is wait a little longer, Its the least she can do. From here on things are going to get much much worse for hurting those 2 people.
At least Mel isn't suing Niles after all of this happened. Mel's actions are very reasonable. Donny is going crazy. But Daphne deserves whats coming to her tho. You don't fuck with people's hearts like that and expect to come out of it unscathed.
You guys need to shut up about Mel!! Mel was annoying but she did treat Niles good unlike maris. I am all for Niles and Daphne but they have to face what they did to those people's hearts.
Mel didn't deserve that to happen to her. Niles promised Mel that he would love and be with her forever. Then Niles wanted a divorce 4 days later. Shes giving him the divorce. All Mel wants is to come out of it with her reputation as a respected surgeon intact. Niles owns that to her.
@TheHibbleton I agree. I have no idea what the creators of this show were thinking when they brought Simon on. I cringed everytime he appeared on the original shows and I scan past any scene he is in when i watch them on here. Horrible character.
Remember all, this is television, not reality. Superbly acted. The fact that Mel grates on everyone is a compliment to the acting prowess of Jane Adams. The same goes for Anthony LaPaglia, who played Simon Moon. Two more irritating people would be hard to find, although I occasionally found Simon likeable in a rascally sort of way.
I'm not a fan of Mel, but I do feel very sorry for her. She DID genuinely love Niles (she tells Daphne that in an earlier episode and she sounded so sincere.) Mel has been badly, badly hurt. I still don't like her, but she's no Maris.
its crazy to think that even though frasier and daphne were pretty close for all those years, there was still a divide between them of "master" and "servant". And its only now that he offers her some sherry and she's so surprised by it...
"Isn't this all too typical... Niles leaves his wife for another woman and he gets a watch. I try to do the right thing and I get Mr. Chump and lawsuit!" LOL!
Leave Mel alone, she loved Niles and then they broke up after 3 days, I wouldn't be nice to someone if they did that to me. Besides she probably needs her social status to keep her business alive.
I totally agree. I mean, I hate Mel. She was horrible but even I feel sorry for her! What Niles did to her was terrible and what Daphne did to Donny was just as bad! The price for being happy... absolutely dreadful, albeit painfully worth it.
@abracrow1000 But had Daphnae stuck with Donny the marrige would have eventually been doomed as she loved Niles more. It could have led to an even greater mess had she married him knowing she had doubts. When you think of it both Niles and Daphnaes potential misery would have come at the expense of Donny and Mels happiness.
Niles did leave his wife, and Daphne did leave her fiancee. This gives them a chance to rebalance their karma before they can be happy together. Karma is important for TV - audiences wouldn't stand a jerk with an easy life or a good person with a miserable life. Not for long, anyway. Remember, these two got together in large part because people wrote to the producers, complaining that Niles's suffering had gone on long enough. Everyone ends up as happy as they deserve, except Donny.
the one thing I don't get about the whole situation is how Daphne doesn't seem to be able to process the amount of pain and embarrasment that they have caused Mel. it's nice that true love got together, but Mel was deliriously in love and had that snatched away four days after her wedding and behind her back.
That's why they scripted the first few episodes of the season the way they did. They made Niles and Daphne both pay for their indiscretion (Niles getting the worse end of the deal since he actually leaves his wife.)
It also shifts the sympathy from Mel to Niles since Mel goes from getting revenge for being hurt to just dragging Niles along and toying with him to be a wench. I think they worked it out perfectly.
i don't get it...jane leeves didn't look pregnant in the season finale of season 7, but you would think they'd have filmed the premiere of season 8 right after. why wait until months later and film while she's obviously pregnant?
Mel is not the friendliest of creatures. Her original agreement for a few weeks of social functions, in order to keep her social standing is fair enough. Considering.. She went over the top though..
Dapnes brother is trying to put on a cockney accent (badly) but Daphne is definitely not a cockney. Her accent is supposed to be from Manchester but actually originates from ten miles north say Wigan/Bolton. Uk regional accents can vary a great deal over such short distances
Exactly, the fact that Daphne's accent in this is clearly northern while all her brothers clearly go for the standard cockney "apple and pears" is a bit annoying...
mel turned into a huge bitch later in the season by dragging niles to all those functions, but i felt bad for her in these earlier episodes. she might have been fussy, but she seemed nice in her own haughty way. plus, i find her hot.
she's currently in HBO's Hung now, and god, does she look old.
Mel was always "Maris"-esque. That's Niles' type, I guess. No wonder Daphne seemed like such a gift from above.
I remember her playing a complete anti-thesis in Tood Solondz's "Happiness." She was so put-upon there, and here she's an absolute villianess shrew here. Nothing like an antagonist role to give an actor some dignity and presence.
That's exactly what the writers intended. She was a kind of 'transition character' between Maris and Daphne. Mel was written into the script as a step in the right direction for Niles; but of course, we all know that Daphne was the ultimate goal ;)
True...but the writers could have gotten Daphne and Niles together through other circumstances than this debacle. Like Mel, Donny got crazy and almost sued Frasier and Daphne for ruining the impending marriage.
That is not to say that Mel and Donny were right for Niles and Daphne, respectively.
and thats a hell of an expensive fungus, that is... i never had the chance of tasting one... but it can get as expensive as the best-est caviar... if not more...
mel is such a biotch. i hatee her, i love niles and daphne!!:] there such a good couple. bestest.. lol fraiser is such a good show i love it bestest eva.. i <3 niles!!!!!!!!!! <3
The respect with which Frasier treats Daphne now that she's with Niles is so touching. That's one reason I love this show. Not only does it have great comedy, it also has great tenderness and realism.
I don't hate her nearly as much as everyone else does. I think she is cute, hilarious, funny, and a nicer version of Maris. lol A logical next choice for Niles.
daffnu and niles are such bad people..but they show as if eveyrthing is alrihgt...that is probably how americans are in real life...i heard most of them end up divorcing
Haha, any American could tell you that rule number one about judging Americans is... Well, it's don't take anything our idiot president says as representative of Americans in general, but rule two is... Don't take "Gossip Girl" seriously (every character in THAT show is horrible), but... Somewhere down the line we would warn you of how massively unrealistic "Frasier" is.
for a second i thought frasier said "i try to do the right thing and i get mr jumping lawsuit"

The physical comedy in this clip is great. First Martin, throwing the newspaper at Frasier's face, then the napkin with Niles and Mel. haha!

The respect with which Frasier treats Daphne now that she's with Niles is so touching. That's one reason I love this show. Not only does it have great comedy, it also has great tenderness and realism.

Oh i hate mel, such a snooty cow
satchrach 3 years ago 6
But her behavior is also pretty understandable. After having being stood up in this way, you can hardly expect her to be charitable.
kkirsnz 3 years ago 3
I don't hate her nearly as much as everyone else does. I think she is cute, hilarious, funny, and a nicer version of Maris. lol A logical next choice for Niles.

daffnu and niles are such bad people..but they show as if eveyrthing is alrihgt...that is probably how americans are in real life...i heard most of them end up divorcing
uch 3 years ago
Haha, any American could tell you that rule number one about judging Americans is... Well, it's don't take anything our idiot president says as representative of Americans in general, but rule two is... Don't take "Gossip Girl" seriously (every character in THAT show is horrible), but... Somewhere down the line we would warn you of how massively unrealistic "Frasier" is.
