  • 4;13 = showing love to the system ...great collection!

  • Damn mate, the Neo Geo fighting games TOTALLY rocked (and rock). I remember playing again and again all the fatal fury videogames ... from the famous "king of fighters 90" up to Garou Mark of The wolves... The action, the colours and the FX's made them more appealing to me than Capcom fighting games...

  • ahole neo geo price point. thats like forking over 900 for a console today, and the games being $300

  • The system became surprisingly popular in Japan. In fact, the system and the games are now highly collectible.

  • I remember when I moved to Asia after high school and saw the neo geo everywhere in 92. Man I was blown away. After owning a sega genesis and super nintendo. They just seemed crappy!? So i actually saved a couple months and got it at $500 in hong kong. And it only came with one controller lol! But after getting a couple games that were very pricey. My favorite sports game of all time has to be baseball stars 2! Man the animation was amazing. The neo geo was and will always be the "Cadillac" of

  • i want still

  • 200 to 300$ a Game!? That must have been Horrible! That explains why Arcades where popular...well...1 of the reasons...

  • the real review starts at 4:30 the stuff before is pure filler and trips down memory lane thumbs up so others can see..

  • @seriousbiskit Well said! My thoughts exactly, IGN especially ticks me off sometimes...

  • I got shivers down my spine every time I turn on my Neo Geo. it would be really cool if you could do a follow up for just the games so I can figure out which ones to get next! At the moment I only have 6 games so I really want to research which one I might like before dropping the serious cash that a new game requires!

  • HCG often says "d ally great graphics for its time"...

Hell, it still looks damn good! I was born in 1992, so needless to say, I missed out on ond console gems like this. But I've played NES,SNES and others on my PsP- consoles that came around the same time- and to had graphics that could rival ps1 2D games( or better!) must have been awe-inspiring! Maybe I'll try to find one later in life when I'm not a poor college student XD I'll be sure to bid on one on ebay with a ton of games!

  • Neo Geo is metal

  • Great video! I don't own any Neo-Geo hardware, but I've played Magician Lord, and I LOVE it! And I get sick of gamers ripping on it; saying it that it looks outdated, when I personally think that it's aged quite well-and, as you said, is very colorful.

  • world heros on the genesis is not a good game!

i remember back at the time a friend of mine just tells me that he played it first on the neo-geo at one of his related house and he loves it then he hear that it's released on the genesis he never had any idea that the neo geo is 5 time more powerful than the genesis so he bought it and then he comes at my house to try it on my genesis well he relise that it's not the same but he still like it a little i still remember the look on his face.

  • i don't know about the wii ware or xbox live market place but in the playstation store they have neo geo station where you can buy neo geo games.

  • why do game reviewers like this never get a lot of hate like CGR and PBG but people like ign and gamespot get a lot? oh yeah cause they actually care about videogames

  • @hyperkoopa5 one source is easily from youtube, he is a youtube partner most likely with all the views he gets and gets paid from youtube

  • they had one of those for game cabinets in an old dairy queen a long time ago where i live and after baseball games we used to go in there and eat while playing king of the monsters and samurai shodown. i think the other games were neo driftout and world heroes. ( another street fighter clone.) still a cool game though.

  • SNK rules...ever and ever

  • I'm thinking of getting a Neo Geo myself.

  • I thought the Turbo Grafix 16 was your favorite of all time.

Well I like all the consoles before 1995.

  • @hyperkoopa5 This is a collection that he says began in about 1986. He didn't just purchase these over a few months or even years, this is a massive collection that he's built up over the span of more than two decades. Makes us all wish we had kept our games! My mom was obsessed with throwing old stuff out, and I guess I never imagined that old games, especially crappy ones, would ever be collectible.

  • loved he neo geo when i was a kid. loved magic lord, nam, burning fight, and cyber lip

  • @wdcain1, Very good PS2 pick-ups, all you need is Samurai Shodown Anthology (a must have). Btw the game at 7:56 is Mutation Nation, one of my favs. :D

  • @hyperkoopa5 A job. Say it with me J-O-B. Patronization over.

  • After seeing this four months ago, I went out and bought EVERY NeoGeo game I could for my ps2. I got 'FF Battle Archives 1-2', 'AoFi Anthology', 'KOF Orochi Saga', 'World Heroes Anthology', 'Metal Slug Anthology', and 'SNK Arcade Classics vol 1'. I got it all for about $65; and I do NOT regrete my purchases. They are AMAZING! And a ton of fun to play! Thank you for the heads-up on these great games!

What was that game at 7:56? It looked like a beat-em up. Also it looked fun.

  • Magician Lord's color palette was incredible. it was the first Neo Geo game I noticed when my town in USA got Neo Geo arcade machines.

  • I actually just picked up a Neo Geo MVS arcade cabinet, ITS FREAKIN AWESUM

  • neo geo was awesome in the arcades. you could have multi games in one cabinet, stuff like metal slug, nam 75 (my favorite mostly because of the story and i like making fun of the guy who says do i have to go back to this hell again), baseball stars, and samurai showdown. this system had so much variety all in one arcade game.

  • @hyperkoopa5 he doesnt eat >.>

  • Everyone's reaction to Fatal Fury when it initially released was that it was a clone since there were so many other clones released at the time (World Heroes was more a clone), so anything that was a 2D fighter was automatically dismissed as a SF clone, fact is that Fatal Fury was the most successful 2d fighting game to carve it's own path apart from SF. Let's face it, 70% of SF fans were fanboys at the time (and still are), I was one but got over it. Today I play G.M.O.T.W. :)

  • @hyperkoopa5 its called not having any kids

  • hey you know tessa from Magician lord? she appeared in SNK vs capcom chaos for ps2, she was a playable character! yeah SNK rules and i love SNK im a big fan! and glad you support them too!

  • @mukaikof Tessa made her debut in Red Earth/WarZards....a capcom game

  • @XxJimmYb yeah your right, thanks for reminding me!

  • Man, let me tell you, RESPECT!!! U are a real videogamer :). Thank you soo much, you just amde me feel right back when I was a kid and I was all exited watching these games on the streets. Keep that passion for the videogames coming broda, you have got yourself a fan! :)

  • Couldn't afford a machine in a million years... That makes me laugh seeing him surrounded by games including a Neo Geo AES with TWO arcade sticks.

  • we all used to dream we had this at home... especailly when we all were playing our nes' at home, i had one person who was a friend of a friend who owned it.

  • @hyperkoopa5 he's been collecting for years and he has a job. why is that so hard for people to wrap their heads around? collections like these don't just pop up overnight.

  • @hyperkoopa5 over time, it's easy. but the real question is, TIME!

  • thanks happy consol gamer you are great

  • EARTHBOUND!!!!!!!!

  • @thestreetglider, Your missing the whole point, yesteryears games are timeless while today's overnight garbage is not.

  • The neo geo was part of the 4th generation of video game consoles, which was the pinnacle of 2D gaming. It took 4 generations of 2D graphics to reach the level where the best games in 2D could be made. We are about to enter the 8th generation of video game consoles, so that would be 4 generations of 3D graphics (primarily), so I'm assuming next generation will be the pinnacle of 3D gaming.

  • I have a Kens hat from fatal fury. I used to play that alllll the time.

  • thanks HappyConsoleGamer, its nice to hear a great review with professionalism rather than just someone cursing at the camera.

  • Can someone tell me the name of the song after the HCG intro plz? Also as im writing this comment this video has 666 comments......wierd =I

  • @BRANDTzilla fatal fury special geese theme

  • @EPworld Oh okay Thanks!

  • what is your opinion of the Neo Geo CD, is getting a Neo Geo CDZ worth the extra cost.

  • neo geo CD was so freakin expensive.. I used to play only in arcades...ppl use to forget about 3DO too, but both were incredible, comparing to master system and genesis no match at all

  • I agree that NEO GEO is a great company. However can it top THE MASTER

    CAPCOM!!!

  • I am now 27 years old and I remember this console.

Nobody of my friends knew it but I was a freak and I remember this games where so expensive !!!

Great console (not really a huge succes)

  • what do you think of the new Analog Interactive Neo Geo CMV all in WOOD (lol they really stress that fact) modified console? ...it plays Neo Geo's CMV's...

  • The Neo Geo machine at the arcade near me had Baseball Stars Professional, NAM-1975, Magician Lord, Ninja Combat and Crossed Swords. Nobody ever talks about Ninja Combat. That game was awesome and very under-rated. I hope it will be on a Neo Geo collection disc one day for the PS3 and/or X-Box 360.

  • Samurai Warrior in the Arcades was epic! <3

  • Man, you have a KILLER collection I am sooooo jealous! Did Neo Geo ROCKED!! Iguess most people had to be around back then to appreciate it!!

  • Great review! My fav is spirits zero!

  • i have GOT to come by your house

  • I fudging Love my Neo Geo ,-)

  • How can you afford these things? Do you have a Happy Helicopter and Happy Blimp?

  • holy f**king $hit $649 >.<

  • Christmas of 1990 was epic for me. A Neo-Geo Gold System + Baseball Stars and Top Player's Golf. :) I also got Cyber-Lip, Nam-1975, and League Bowling a few months later. I actually got in touch with a wholesaler who was selling the Gold System new for $550 and the games were $120 - $170 each which was a great deal for the time.

  • I remember when Neo Geo Gold System was being sold at Shaper Image. It was the Ferrari of game consoles back in the early 90’s. If you could flip the bill for this extremely expensive gaming system and shell out over $200.00 for games...CRAZY! I have friends who still cannot believe how big the game cartridges are. A wopping 7.5 inches x 5.34 inches…wow what the fuck is this?!!! I still have this system and it’s still a blast to play as far as 2d games go. Neo Geo: Bigger Badder Better!!!

  • if thats your collection i am seriously jelous

  • I remember similar games on Boxes, but just now I heard of such console =] nice to know atleast now, my "gaming superjump" was from nes to pc and to snes =)

  • Can anyone tell me what game that is at 0:54? Love these videos so educational and entertaining.

  • @morbidone1983 That's Cyber-Lip. A great (Pre-Metal Slug) side scroller in the same vein as Contra.

  • USed to have one... Great engine

  • Another thing to note is neo geo battle coliseum is on xbox live.

  • Weee. I had a NeoGeo for a short time when i was about 13 or 14. Now im more than twice as old and can afford all the games that were inaccessible to me when i was a kid. The Graphics STILL Impress me today, and i played anything else beetween, up to now, real 3D games on a PS3. I would never give away a Neo Geo for 100s of Ps3's.

  • It was the console that we gamers (in the early 90's) only spoke of in hushed tones. It was "The Beast". It was "The Legend". It was the Neo Geo.

This console was marketed for adults and teens who could afford it or kids who's parents had more money than good sense.

  • World Heroes! I played that game at a bowling alley when I was a kid and could not remember the name of it until you showed it in this video. Awesome man!

  • There was a comic book store that had neo geo games out and I used to play the fuck out of it when I was there. Nam was the first game I ever got to play on the beast. That was when I became a man.

  • Great games...To this day I can play these games in arcades ...

  • @thestreetglider

Technically more sophisticated in terms of graphics, and sound, yes, yes ... but BETTER games? I beg to differ.

  • Can someone please tell me what game that is at 0:32-0:33?

  • @KHAOTiKGENOZiDE aliens vs predator

  • rad review, man! :)

  • neogeo also released neo mr do

  • I never knew of the NEO GEO games until I read about them in the Retro Gamer mags that are from the UK.

As someone who was too young to even afford the pocket money to buy games in the 90's, (I just barely started getting pocket money for helping my parents at home in 1998 and got an N64 as my first console at the age of 13) I could understand why I never heard of the NEO GEO until I started reading Retro Gamer.

  • Cool review. x

  • fatal Fury Special = Win!!!!

  • 00:30 could someone tell me what game and edition is that platinum box at the middle, in the left; right beside of that blue's journey??

  • @extremduke

If your referring to the box that has Ken from street fighter, it actually isn't a game but a 20th anniversary controller for the PS2 that includes a comic lol I have two of them

  • Get Kawaks and Play some Neo Geo, and put it on Console or arcade mode

  • This was the Skyline GT-R of game machines.

  • @SuperHighTechGamer More like the Ferrari F40

  • @redSKORPION50 Word!

  • Just had an awesome gaming session with my friends last night, playing Samurai Shodown IV, Shocktroopers and Metal Slug 2 on the Neo Geo. No console did a better job of bringing arcade games right into your home.

  • Neo Geo 4 life, best system ever.

  • You guys need to do a more in depth podcast for the Neo Geo for the long time fans. The one you guys did was good but basic info.

  • @edouardleniqueur The technology in the console wouldn't allow them to make it any cheaper. All the parts at the time were premiums. Same with the carts, the amount of data in the carts dwarf any other console.

  • how do the hell could you afford to buy those games back in the day early 90's

  • The MVS and its games are cheaper than the home console

    MVS system=300-600$

    Home console=600-1,000$

  • Every one stay away from SNK Arcade Classics Vol 1...It's a fucking annoying port

  • Great idea...great product...horrid prices. Now with emulators it would be cheaper to make a home arcade cabinent than to buy a New Geo even today

  • Best fighting game is Garou Mark of the Wolves. Last Blade 1 and 2 were also amazing.

  • good stuff right there. love snk

  • lool i would love to have a time machine i would travel to 1989 and show him uncharted 2 or god of war 3 xD. anyway great video now you can play those games on ps3 they are on ps store.

  • what you dont have king of fighters???

  • @dentei3 Cause games for the damn thing cost $120-300.

  • what's that game being played at :19 in the intro?

  • Yup!! good old days, I remember this system back in '89-'90 but it was EXPENSIVE and so were the games. I did buy a NEO-GEO CD in '94 but the loading times were horrible! Love the Metal slug series!!!!!

  • You really had to be a gamer in the mid 80s to early 90s to get how incredible the NEO GEO was. When it comes to consoles there was nothing out there that matched the graphics on those NEO GEO games. Then seeing the price of it and that most stores didn't even carry it, as a kid, only increased the mythology surrounding the system.

  • @jorgekluney no u dont

from what i've seen i think its awesome

i play top graphics, top speed on playstation p and 2, xbox360, pc-any

i love the way this looks

  • @namekman01 i'm not saying you can't appreciate how good it is.

But as a kid in during those years it was something else. Now you have systems with good graphic ability at your disposal. That wasn't the case growing up in WI. Seeing what the Neo Geo looked like back then compared to the systems that were available to me... the Neo Geo just mesmerizing.

  • @jorgekluney metal slug best game ever for a neo geo to me

  • @jorgekluney I'm 33 years old now.!!..and this console along with the pc engine does indeed have a mystical quality...i used to browse the mail order pages at back of games magazine from my local newsagent and drool over this system you had to order from japan...and it was years ahead of its time...the carts actually were used in the neo geo arcade machines....this system and the PC ENGINE (turbo grafx)...i need to get on ebay and bid on these consoles before they are gone forever..

  • Holy shit I thought he was Jeremy for a sec.

  • finally got neo-geo emulator to work on my modified xbox, its sweet!

  • @ShockingPoetry lol you can buy it on the Ps3 now

  • ur pretty camp like... anyway good video mate

  • ive always wanted 2 own a neo geo its just a unique console!!!

    mayby 1 day

  • @theretrogamerno1 it may be hard to get a neo geo nowadays but u can get a neo geo emulator.

  • @sd9800 Yea well when i was younger i new jack shit about retro consoles and i was in a yard sale and i saw a Neo geo 4 15 dolars boxed with 10 boxed games i was gonna buy it but i looked at the cable it looked funny turnes out it was just a normal AV cable when i got internet i looked on ebay and i looked at the prices FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

  • neo geo had alot of good games on it like baseball stars 1 and 2 robo army samural shodown series 3 count bout those games i liked bad thing i never had a neo geo played those games on emulator called mame.great review.

  • I am still looking for a good neo geo aes, sadly i did buy one, but it was damaged in shipment, but i have held onto the cartridges, hoping one day i will, can get one...

  • I just saw for the first time that jacket is a dreamcast jacket..and I have watched this video like 30 times and just recognized that. ahhh! it looks so cool

  • metal slug anthology for ps2. So worth it.

  • person who owned a neo geo: "hey i got a new neo geo game"----> next day: "aw man looks like im in debt"

  • how did u get the original version of geeses theme from fatal fury special for the intro? ive been trying to find an mp3 but i always end up finding the arranged or the version from real bout fatal fury 2

  • You have a great collection there, well done!

  • do anyone remember a arcade game about big robots. You had a choose of 3 diffrent pilots with there own robot with diffrent looks. In the game you fight other robots and you could find special weapons to your robot after you killed a enemy. If you know the name of this game, send me a note. Thx!

  • Absolutely awesome...!!!

I read an article in an videogames magazine back in 93' or 94' about the coming console..and was totally blown away!Even though I knew I could never afford it,due to the reality that I was 10years old at that day :-)

    Thanx for posting it man

  • what's the name of the game at 7:56 ??

  • @RaulBillieJean Mutation Nation, it's a side scrolling beat em up, a kinda cool game

  • @Jshaw71 thanks

  • @RaulBillieJean n/p at all :)

  • I have the arcade MVS version, all the variations, 1 slot, 2 slot, 4 slot, 6 slot and a huge cart collection

  • WOW i remember when i skipped out on my lunch break at my job to run to the bank get the cash and head for the mall at EB to buy their last Neo Geo on clearance for $299 and i bought 10 games that were 25-55$

i was 30min late getting back to work but it was worth getting chewed out :)

  • @godscuttingyoudown lucky lucky man!!

  • god what id give if someone gave me one of those systems for free mvs for free id fucking shit my self sorry but god the two best arcade consoles were the neo geo mvs and street fighter if i had both id be one happy camper

  • hey...SNK was making games on the MVS till 2005, and it's on the GBoWR as the longest selling, manufactured, and bought gaming system

  • if anyone wants to play these games without wasting your hard-earned money, just simply download a neo-geo emulator. I downloaded one a long time ago, then I found a site that hosted all the neo geo roms. it's not hard to find if you do some googling.

  • @liquidt3ch its just retro-collecting...BTW...no emulator will give you 100% the real deal... 90% max as emulators arent an exact per pixel replica of the originals but a way to play old games in a small windows at pc resolutions....cheap but not the same as the real thing...

  • @fazares I know that, but as far as my eyes can tell, emulators look pretty damn close to the original to me.

  • the game at 0:32 sec... does anyone know the name?

  • Magician Lord looks awesome!

  • What do you think of KOF 13?

  • I was lucky enough to have a NEO GEO back in 1990 alas I had sod all games for it! :(

  • ThE most classy home console ever. Owning this back in the days..... you were the king :) 100% arcade at home. SNES or Genesis were Kindergarten compared to this.

    20 years later - still no.1

  • where could i buy a neo geo and its games?

  • @meclimax

Check ebay. I bought my NeoGeo AES for $250 with two controllers from a ebay-seller called hit-japan. It's a store based in Japan and frequently sells used NeoGeo's for good prices. But be aware of the cartridge's prices, some of them are just mind-blowing (how about Metal Slug 1 for $1.700?). If you want to enjoy NeoGeo games for reasonable prices, buy a consolized MVS. That's a NeoGeo arcade system which has been converted into a home console (what makes the games far more cheaper).

  • @Murikov so, if i wanted to get the MVS would i go to that same person?

  • @meclimax

No, consolized MVS's are normally modded, set up and sold only by private persons. But again on ebay you should find plenty of offers. The only drop of bitterness is that consolized MVS's look pretty ugly compared to the original NeoGeo AES.

  • i just recently got the neogeo emulator to work on my psp. and i am just blown away. what a beautiful system and games to match. I have some great ones including Money Puzzle Exchanger, KoF 2003, Waku Waku 7 (though a bit slow or is the game slightly slower paced? AND my two favorites, LastBlade2 and Garou: Mark of the Wolves. These last two fighters look stunning on a psp screen.

  • OMG Is that a Dreamcast jacket?? DO WANT!

  • How does this guy get the money to buy this?

  • @ST0PM0SS Well paying job?

  • @rifleviejo love to know his job.

  • i herd that the happy console gamer is a fag. Is that true?

  • man dude i played the same games when i was a kid

  • you look like so punk, the kinda guy you wouldn't mess with in fear that he might kill you......................yet you're almost squealing out of joy over these games/consloes

  • my mom once threw mine in the garbage

i spend like 800 bucks on my neogeo ollection an dmy threws it away i never forgive her for that -.-

  • @Legofiguren that's fucked up mate.

  • @griffo83X yeah but she bought me a new one yester day c\D

  • NEO GEO The machine created by gamers for gamers

  • I heard the NEO GEO is a 24bit system.

  • 6:05 DEAMON FANG (Majinken)

  • Really nice review of your system, man (: ah, it's unexplainable how I felt the first time I played World Heroes, Samurai Shodown, Metal Slug, etc back in the early 90's. Thanks for the post.

  • You have the sickest games on the neo geo! FataL Fury Special is my favorite

  • At my pizza hut they have the neo geo arcade machine and it played metal slug x

  • Great videos man, can we have some more Neo-Geo game reviews??

  • Great review - I remember the Neo Geo vividly. I was still playing the multi-game arcade game well into the 90's. If I had to choose, Metal Slug (1 & 2) would have to be my favorite. Too many honorable mentions to type here.

  • Nice Video! Your Neo Geo Story is a lot like mine, except that I could never afford it :-D

I would love to see another Neo Geo Video with some other Games reviewed. Maybe you can do it in the Future! :-)

  • Awesome Vid!!

  • I do agree that the neo geo had lots of great games!! almost every fighting game i played on the neo geo turned out great! except for fight fever, i think.

  • whats the game at 0:19

  • whats the game at 0:19

  • I LOVE NEO GEO wish it was buyable tough

  • People dont realize at 3:36 WHAT THE FUCK!? is that a dick? cause i see an arm there and the long thing is coming from down there..

  • @ HappyConsoleGamer

You forgot to mention how the MVS cabinet's high-quality speakers brought all those awesome Neo-Geo sound effects to life!!

  • @ TheyNeverSayNever

One of the most reputable Neo-Geo sellers on ebay is Neotropolis, i recommend buying from him. An AES system with S-Video and Stereo output mods added by him will probably cost about $300, Component video output mod will cost a little more but if you have a flatscreen tv, it might be worth it. He also installs an LED light under the Reset button that glows whenever the system is turned on. You can usually request which color you'd prefer to be installed.

  • @Shoe3003 Have you seen their Neogeo 3 in 1 system that plays AES, MVS, and CD games all on one unit? Its Good, but I just wish it was just an AES & CD in one...

  • @hobocamptheater Don't forget PlayStation 3 on that list

  • great video.

NEO-GEO was T-H-E SHIT back in the day..!!
