  • What if you used some waterproof wood glue such as titebond III?

  • I hate laminate flooring ...worst decision i ever made....get real wood

  • @ladyvictoria8 Why did you hate the laminate so much?

  • @tifighter3 if you plan on keeping it poster clean...no kids ..no animals..yes...maybe in a bedroom but for a downstairs..or hallway..I live in 6 months of cold weather..i would get carpet again,,,or real wood....

  • Can you seal laminate flooring, with urethane or anything, to keep the water from penetrating the edges? Thanks for your time Dominick.

  • @CladCoin No not really. A laminate floor moves and moves a lot. A urethane will crack up real good.

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply back ! Not exactly what I wanted to hear, but I appreciate your professional advice nevertheless !!! Have a good one Dom ! Catch ya later, Clad.

  • Is it possible to use laminate flooring board to cover the walls? Like the chair guards that are around 4 feet high.

  • The laminate floor in my house is getting ripped out and will never EVER be installed again. This stuff was not meant to live on, it was meant to look at. Seriously, if you have a busy family it will not be long before you walk trails into the floor, unlike hardwood, it cannot be resurfaced. Also, washing a floor with a swifer? There again, only if you don't live on it. Mine is Pergo brand, I have trails and bubbles all over, it's garbage I tell ya, never install it.

  • i put this in my house with 7 people plus two dogs about 8yrs ago and it looks great still, never had a problem with it. my mother has walnut hard wood floors in her house and the floor looks bad it has dings and the lacquer is fading she had it done 5yrs ago at the cost of 900 bucks and it needs to be redone again. i did my whole floor for less than that and i cant see it messing up in my life time

  • @cbr900rr919 which brand did you install???

  • Laminate flooring generally is "poor mans" equivalent of true hardwood floors. There are many different qualities of laminate some obviously will be better than others. I would never lay laminate in areas prone to damp or wetness ( Kitchens, Bathrooms etc ). Bear in mind for those of you with Dogs, they can be dangerous to you four legged friends, they will slip and slide all over the place and joint damage is not uncommon.

Laminate has it's uses it's relatively cheap and easy to install,

  • Thanks for the great vid. Really helped me in making decision between a parquet flooring and a laminated flooring.

  • i put lamonate in our basement....sump pump acke up , water all over the basement..a few months later..lamonate floor had anywhere from 1/2 to 1 inch gap in between joints,,,laminate shrinks when exposed /or submerged in water..

  • I had laminate flooring in my mudroom. Big mistake. after one winter in

  • Hi dom, I was wondering about putting laminate flooring in my bedroom and i don't bring drink into my room however do you think it would be suitable for a 14 year olds bedroom thanks, Jenna

  • @cheekymonkey9888 Sure thing. Go for it. Look for my how to install laminate floor video.

  • Hi Dom!! I have a suite I rent out in the basement and I want to lay laminate upstairs but I am concerned about walking noise. With a good underlay, do I need to worry or should I put maybe 3/8 plywood over top of the subfloor? What is good noise reduction underlay? I bought this stuff called Quietstep (foam rubber) is that any good? thx Dom

  • @gilbertrr Get Floor Muffler

  • hi dom, i live in a condo. my neighbor put a laminate floor above me. the neighbor has heavy glass doors. the jam they installed they put directly over the wood and did not cut an area so the doors would slide without creating an earthquke everytime the doos are slid opened and closed. other issues but i don't need to post those.

    thanks,

    bob

  • @nohobob Jambs go up and down, they are on the sides. I think you mean a transition. In that case it would seem that it will need to be cut down. Post a picture on my site and I'll see what you need to do.

  • Thearmedlife, don't install laminate in a bathroom. It's way too wet of an environment. You'll be wasting your money. Ceramic or porcelain tile is your best option.

  • I just put in laminate flooring here. Looks fantastic !!!!

    Thanks for the tips ;-)

  • Thanks for uploading

    Good tips!!!

  • Thanks! I'm going to use laminate floor to refloor my living room.

  • can you seal laminate flooring

  • Have a question jest installed for the first time laminated flooring a week ago and I have a big , big problem in some spots on the seams its buckling and worst of it all its all at the beginning about 5th to the 8th row and on about 10 spots.

Can you tell me what happened and how to fix it with out ripping 3/4 of the floor back out .

    Thanks

    Mike

  • @learjet360: Did you leave a gap for expansion where the baseboard meets with the floorboard?

  • hi i'm thinking of puting this in my bathroom it's a large bathroom but i'm still worried about the moister making it buckle what do you think?

  • @THEARMEDLIFE Glue the joints together. Follow the manf instructions.

  • @THEARMEDLIFE I wouldn't put laminate in a bathroom, water + laminate = Bad. It will buckle, not straight away but over time it will.

  • Thank you for taking your time for helping viewers to become more educated when it comes to install and the pros and cons about laminate floor.

  • this is really helpful info as i am in the habbit of hitting my floor with a claw hammer..!

  • how big is 30 seconds thick?

  • @aggiecarter50 - He said 1/32ths of an inch which equals 0.03125 inches. It's actually thinner than that even.

  • Why is it when I accidentally dropped dropped a glass bowl on the floor it left a crack?

  • Take a SHARPIE PERMANENT MARKER and write your name directly onto Laminate flooring.

Just a little denatured alcohol and a rag and it is gone instantly ! Just thought you should know!

    Ric

  • Dom, I'm thinking of installing laminate at a 45 degree angle for that extra snazzy look. Is that a bad idea? I know it sure would take a lot of cuts.

    Thanks, great vid.

  • @papaboule No not at all. Just make sure you cut the wall ends nice and straight so they will get covered up by the trim.

  • Excellent Sir. Thank you. This is great!!!!!

    I appreciate

  • nice. thanks for posting this. it helps.

  • @panteranation Anytime, glad I could help.

  • You cant refinish a laminate floor. They're reusing hardwood flooring from old tobacco warehouses in Richmond, VA. Theres a test of quality.

  • Ok i seen your video and went out and got the laminate flooring, hope your right about the easy part...hahaha just kidding think it will be some what easy to do..

  • Thanks Dominick.

  • @ForPropertyInvestors you very welcome

  • Very usefull, thanks

  • Great videos. Thanks. You look a lot like Bill Cosby!

    :P

  • You da man, Dom. Thanks for the education. I know I can install a lam floor myself now. Starting on it tomorrow.

  • anytime glad I could help..

  • laminate flooring also cost a lot less. i prefer real wood.. now they have vinyl flooring that looks just like laminate and its water proof and durable. not to mention easiest thing to replace

  • Once you done one your a pro. I love it.

  • hi there, Can u tell me how to take care of laminate floor. thanks

  • That's really the good thing about laminate floor. It takes care of it self. However just keep them clean and use a laminate cleaner if you like. Just don't use a big wet mop.

  • can u give me a product name as I have no idea about it. We just bought a property which has laminated floor.

  • Like any other floor really. Just don't use a big wet mop and let the water soak in for a long time.

  • Thanks alot.

  • Is there any kind of sealent you can apply to protect the cracks in laminate flooring?

  • No you really can't. A sealer would get hard and these floors move around. So you really can't.

  • Watched lots of you videos and they are quiet informative. Thanks for all the information. My question is after removing the carpet from my slab I noticed along one wall this is basically no gap between the baseboard and the slab?? This is only on one wall but I'm curious doesn't the flooring suppose to fit under the baseboards? If so what is my solution? Thanks for the great information thru your videos. Have a great day pal.

  • Yes it should. However not all the time. Some will just install a 1/4 round trim over the floor to the base. For more details and questions see my site.

  • Thanks for the reply Dominick. Your videos are very helpful to me during my laminate project.

  • very helpful. thank you!

  • Great, always nice to hear and thank you..

  • laying floors for 15 years.. and you are bang on the money

  • Thank you very much

  • He is right Laminate floor are VERY durable in most cases, BUT With 2 dogs and 2 young kids I mop more than the average person and my floors didn't last long in many spots the edges buckled and swole up and it looks horrible! Then during a hurricane we got a little water in the living room and that just DAMAGED the floors! I will use these floors again when my kids are older and pets are gone! But in my current situation they are worthless for me...

  • Another great video. Good job!

  • Great info. Thanks man

  • what is DIY means? a lots video using this sign.

  • DIY = Do It Yourself. In America, I believe, they use the expression 'handyman'.

  • There's a company called unika that has click seal. search for it on the net. dasanii19 when checking out laminate floor go to it with your keys to see the quality of the overlay and give it a scratch. if there are no marks you should be right if it does, the quality is not there. Laminate floor comes in high density fibreboard and check whether they have a water resistant resin in them. They won't blow out and chip like a biscuit but like anything you look after it and it will look after you.

  • good job amigo tks.yuo the best

  • Thank you very much. It's always nice to hear.

  • Thanks, Dominick.

  • Anytime

  • Hi Dominick,

Thank you so much for your simple and helpful videos. I came from a country where woodfloor doesn't exist. I bought a small house and I decide to put a wood floor . I didn't do it yet, but with your great videos I know I can do it by myself.

  • Hey Dominick, your teaching style is great, down to earth and easy to understand. Your quite a jack of all trades, pretty cool!

    Keep up the good work,

    Rich... Tacoma, WA

  • I know there is a product called "Click Seal" for laminate that is suppose to be applied to the tongue before it is clicked together. We are half done laying laminate and I just found out about this product. I cannot find the product to purchase and have been searching for something comparable to buy. Also, is there any kind of sealant available that can be applied to the seams once the floor is already installed to help keep water spills from damaging the floor? Thanks for any help.

  • I have to tell you I have never hear heard of it. I can't even think that someone would make this. Perhaps it's for the older style glue laminates. If you do find could you share this with me. Sorry I wasn't of any help...

  • Great videos man!! Hey, how do dog nails stand up to the laminate flooring? I mean does it scratch really easy? Thanks!!
