  • Certain songs stand out from the crowd...these songs evoke some great memories...I remember when I first got my hands on the "The Kings Are Here" in 1980...and years later that music is still important to me. Thanks, guys.

  • Such awesome memories come flooding back with this song. Dedicate this to all my pals from USAF 2852 CES bldg 941. What a party boys (and girls)!!

  • What a GREAT song, never get tired of hearing it!

  • This song makes me wish that I still worked in that fucked up media known as "radio". The Kings deserved soooo much more.

  • Lunatics Anonymous, that's where I belong! Definitely amongst my faves. Thanks for such an awesome song!

  • one of my faves!!!!!!!!! hard to come by though!

  • see kids, there used to be kick ass tunes back in the day.hate to turn on radio nowdays. lol

  • The '80's where so great and this song says it all.

  • Still the KING of weekend anthems... (sorry, will pay bad pun tax for that one)

  • Great song man!

  • I first heard this one back in 1979, bought the four track (cassette) tape in 1980, and the CD ([The Kings Are Here in 1980] The Kings are Here/Amazon Beach in 1997?), loved it then, still do!

  • seen some great kings shows cheers from buffalo ny

  • Always a classic to pick you up!!

  • Loved this song the first time i heard it back in....?? 80? It has an old time 60's feel to it with the ?? Vox continental? and very nice crunchy geeetars, an infectious beat. If you can't get moving from this song your likely dead.

One question. is it "Switch N' to glide".. Or "Switch In to glide"

  • @roquefortfiles It is "Switchin' to Glide". The organ was a Yamaha... thanks!

  • @thekingsarehere Are you from the band? I absolutely love this song, always have. Not too many songs earn 10 on the volume nob but this is one of them. Love when the Yamaha kicks in. I am always dashboard playing along to it. Must feel great to write a great song everyone loves.

  • @roquefortfiles Yes, and yes.

  • Cheers from way down in St. Louis, where they played this a lot on the radio in 1980. Wow - really takes me back.

  • The energy is so infectious, and makes me feel good whenever tis played while am working. Fanbloodytastic editing! Had to Favourite here. Cheers, lads! (Am in Cali ;) )

  • @PuckRocker43 Thanks we appreciate it!

  • @PuckRocker43 Can't believe they formed up a bit in Vancouver then Oakville, Ontario. World would be a dark shitty place without Canadians.

  • @conky187 Tis true, mate. Hockey and Rush rule, but the Kings rock!!

  • @conky187 Very true!

  • man that singer looks like john cuszack

  • awesome rock and footage, man i miss good music!

  • I take responsibility for about 200 of the views on this video since "discovering" this song on the radio about 4 months ago. Great song!

    This Beat Goes On!

  • The BEST version! My life's anthem back in the early 1980s.

  • Great video mixing...young, old, young again. Great job. Great tune!!!

  • Lunatics Anonymous meets on Tuesday right?

THANK YOU for this super post ;.)

  • @0marigolds Glad you enjoy it, meeting times vary from place to place...

  • @0marigolds I'm right here. And so am I.

  • @PrinceOfCicero well how convenient, it's Tuesday, see yourself and your other selves shortly....just remember it's anonymous so don't out my several selves please ! ;.)

  • A four star performance of a great song by a class act.....

  • this is so cool....

  • i knew trudy

  • Lads from nearby my home..!! Myself from Bronte, the rest? well.?..Who cares,,,,...lol

  • Good upload!

  • don't forget to buy a copy of "anatomy of a one hit wonder, the kings". it is really good! hit mister zero up and he will hook you up! AMEN! jim k

  • I had a friend named Tom who would blast this song while we cruised around town in his Mustang! He totally loved this song

  • No matter how lousy I'm feeling or how bad a day can get, all I have to do to get out of that funk is fire up this duo. Crank it up to 10. If you're not dancing at some point while listening to these songs, check your pulse. You may be dead. Long live the KINGS.

  • This just came on WKKW, in our office. I have a 1981 College Student inside me who absolutely refuses to die, cause even though its only 11am, Monday morning, I'm ready for 'switchin to glide.'

  • @jeff62rey Are you insane? Most folks aren't into "Switchin' to Glide" mode until Tuesday! I think you need a new job. One that at least gets you through Monday.

  • @jeff62rey Is that in West Virginia?

  • Another Dave Rave Fave at 40 past the hour here on my own personal digital jukebox radio. Wow, I loved this tune. I still do. I can remember listening to the end of year top 100 countdown on local hometown radio station wondering where this song would rank. Imagine my disappointment when after 8 hours of listening, I finally heard the number 1 hit and it was Kim Carnes Bette Davis Eyes. Bette Davis Eyes? What? Huh? You've Got To Be Kidding! Total Major Bummer not hearing it all.

  • And yeah...I remember seeing this on AB too I hate to say....

  • I switched to glide in Vancouver..musta been early 70's for me, and yeah The Commodore Ballroom was the place to be in Van. Early Georgia Straight days...

  • This is one of my favorite songs of all time. It's amazing--the vocals, percussion, the keyboard, guitar work--pure energy. Pure energy. My friend and I always loved the lyrics "Me and Zero request you in the Mercedes" and "Nothing matters but the weekend from a Tuesday point of view." The latter lyric is probably the reason I was fired from my first job--saying "screw work" on a Tuesday really seemed to upset my boss. :)

  • @JohnnyCxviii Bosses are sometimes funny that way. The Mercedes in question was a 1964 220S, a lot of fun. Thanks!

  • * loved cruzing to this song *

  • two great lines in this awesome classic.LUNATICS ANNOYNAMOUS THATS WHERE I BELONG.and NOTHING MATTERS BUT THE WEEKEND FROM A TUESDAY POINT OF VIEW.i used to hate my dad for palyin the hell of this song when i was young but i think i listen to this more than he does now.lolthanx dad for introducing to the great classics

  • @alvin9302 Funny how the older you get, the less of a dummy your Dad seems to be...

  • THanks for sharing this of one of my favorite songs. So very great!!

  • Don't here this on the radio anymore!!!!

  • @tommyschock Sounds like a good time to call up your local rock station and request it...!

  • 3:12 = EPIC!!!!!!!

  • So I was driving a borrowed Jag on the Uplands highway. This song, on the radio, 11:00 at night...Glide was 130.

    Thanks guys.

  • @jaycurrie In the interest of safety, we simply can't condone exceeding the posted speed limit... right.

  • @ mexican comic; Hey Man! I was gonna say that

  • A good old Canadian band!!!!!! Just love this song. i still have the album on vinyl.

  • One of the things that have really caught my attention about this song since the first time I heard it is the fact that this is two very distinctive songs meshed into one great tune! It begins with a very simple and catch sing- along song then it turns into a rock anthem of sorts! Great lyrics and the melodies are so wonderful! A very well produced and polished song! Thank you guys!!! You helped define an era that will be recognized for the last of melody- based songs!

  • @mexicancomic13 Thanks for the comment, and sadly, you are probably right, melody driven music seems to be less popular now.

  • One of my all time favorite songs, I graduated in 81, and every time this song comes on the radio, to this day, I carnk it up, and rip the knob off, just as I did back then. Thanks for the memories. Killer editing on this song, at least I know I'm not the only one getting older ; )

  • @SuperWildbill62 Huh? Sorry couldn't hear that last remark.

  • @SuperWildbill62 I'm with you wildbill I graduated in 81, this is a great song........ rock on !

  • one my all time faves from the 80's !!!

  • if this dont get you up then you dont have a pulse

  • I'm 15 year old girl, and LOVE this song<3 I grew up listening to this kind of music, so glad I don't listen to the rap/pop my peers listen to! And the local classic rock station, 98.5, plays this song on Friday's at 5pm because it's the official start to the weekend, and played immediatley after is Bang the Drum.

  • Also, who is the guy on keyboards? He's amazing!

  • @heartsthatbleed87 Thanks for the comments, that would be Sonny Keyes on the keyboards, a great player and a great guy!

  • God, I love this song! I remember my mom playing it basically my entire childhood. Soooo good.

  • This is what this song means to me....

Picture it, the most beloved Town of Cicero, Illinois, 1990.

My girlfriend is pissed at me. I'm grounded for the week. It's 4AM, and I'm in my room...eating cold White Castles and getting a cheat sheet ready for a Computer Science test I've gotta pass in a couple of hours.

This song comes on 105.9 WCKG...and none of that shit seems to matter anymore.

    :-D

  • @PrinceOfCicero That is a great story, thanks for sharing it. Unfortunately here in Canada we don't have White Castle, (the true source of the term 'slider') but whenever we are in a State that has them, we always get a bunch. Not as good cold, but still quite tasty. Mmm.

  • if this song doesnt get your blood pumpin' then you have no pulse.

  • Wow!! Awesome job!! Thoroughly impressed. Love it!

  • Thanks for ur effort it's awsome brings back so many memories

  • This song played on radio in Chicago years after the song was popular....until corporate radio took over.

  • @jmcfx3b2z Yes, radio is in a sorry state, but do us a favor and call your local station for some Kings!

  • Nothing matters but the weekend, from a Tuesday point of view.

    Man how true!

Anyhow, what a great song. I got the album in fall 1980 after hearing this song. Good tunes, good times, great memories, we need more music like this now!!!!!

  • @17rambler Thanks, its great to hear from long time fans, we appreciate it!

  • Always loved this song, heard it first in the early 80's,I was in my twenties, really gets u pumped up,super driving tune, good 2 see all those videos in sync, tks!!

  • I can't think of a single song that cheers me up faster than this one. The Kings RULE! I had PARTYITIS all through high school. If only there were videos of the other songs...

  • @vicnomore There are some other videos on our youtube channel and more at our website. And even more on our dvd. Including Partyitis...

  • Yes, a great editing job on this classic rock tune. I was attending Saint Olaf College in Northfield, MN when the album came out, and I'm glad I still have that vinyl. The Kings did receive good airplay in our neck of the woods, too, and I'm glad for that. Definitely a crankable commodity still, along with Ah Leah and others....

  • @toddhoss1959 Thanks, cool to hear those memories.

  • Wow there gotta be like 20 concerts in this video, and the timing never went off from music to lip syncing once. Great editing job I must say!

  • @casinoowner33 Thanks, as mentioned before we had over 40 sources and it took over 140 hours to edit. We made it sync as close to perfect as possible. Glad you enjoyed it!

  • @thekingsarehere You guys did a great job.

  • Love this song. One of my favorites

  • Great job on editing. It's perfect

  • one of the best radio songs of all time =) you hear this on the radio and you just wanna party!

  • Brings back a lot of memories here too. I miss the 80's! I think the radio station was KMCK K106. Skating rinks, video games, new wave.....

  • The editing in this video makes it a masterpiece. Awesome song. You can't feel bad while listening to this song.

  • @thekingsarehere Are you one of the band members?

  • @Arkipelago2 10-4

  • will not forget this songggg greatness;)

  • Great Job on the video for a great lost song

  • @delgal22 How can it be lost when you found it? Thanks!

  • Great song! Thanks for posting!

  • They still play this song a lot on classic rock stations. Good tune.

  • I heard this song for the first time in about 25 years on 102.3 here in Ohio, what a timeless classic, I crank it up just as loud as I did the first time I heard it. I never knew who the artist was that sang it back in the day, either the the DJ gabbing during the bumper sucked and never mentioned the band's name or the weed was really that good at numbing the brain cells.

Excellent video, man, this beat does go on.

  • @wrenchwizzard68 We love to hear these stories about The Kings on the radio in the US, thanks!

  • Great band. Great song.

Brings back alot of memories from when I was a kid growing up in the most beloved Town of Cicero, Illinois in the '80s....jamming on this compliments of 105.9 WCKG!

  • @PrinceOfCicero The mid-west was a great place for The Kings, lots of great radio support there, thanks for letting us hear the story!

  • You know what? You want to support quality? This is it. Do what you can, people.

  • @jonathanprobber This man knows of what he speaks...and he likes hockey!

  • @thekingsarehere

Hockey is the greatest sport on the earth :D I'm a canadian if no one picked up on that lol

  • used to think it was billy joel...

  • What's with the lame troll(s) marking all of the comments here (the ones that like the video) as spam? Some people really have NO LIFE AT ALL!

    The Kings ROCK!

  • @screwyootube1 Once again, yes there is some lame ass moron who is doing this and we are working on how to prevent it. And we will get it sorted out. If this response is read by the person who is doing this, please take your bullshit somewhere else, this is a band run channel for our fans, leave us alone and go back under your rock.

  • this song kicks ass!

  • As a former filmmaker, I know the rigors of sitting in an editing room and meticulously putting together footage. Congratulations of doing a bang up job on this. Superbly done. Hope you guys are headed to the South on your tour. Would love to dance to the music one more time.

  • @kilts4u2 As stated above, it took over 140 hours to edit this video. It was complicated, but a bit of progress was made every day and I wasn't going to quit until it was perfect. I have seen so many videos with poor sync that I wasn't going to let it happen here, which is why some clips are short, they were going out of sync.Which was a problem because the band was playing at different tempos and there were over 40 sources. We are proud of this, its how we wish to be remembered, live onstage.

  • @thekingsarehere 140 hours is about 5-7 feature films. I'm impressed. I'd be even more impressed if some of that footage was transferred from film stock to video. When I saw the band in the mid '80s in Atlanta, video was just emerging as a viable medium. I made music videos and know firsthand the vigors of syncing up music to video. When the editing was done on a film table, it was easy to lose frames . . on both the live action and the music. This is art. Masterful art. Congrats.

  • @kilts4u2 I think we only played Atlanta once, in late Oct of '80 if memory serves. There is16mm film stock in this, and VHS, Hi-8, original Betamax, broadcast Beta SP and some mini DV, and stuff taped from the TV. We basically had color coded lines from each source drawn through big lyric sheets, and the colors changed according to quality of the shot over the lyric. Then what was good, better, best. Many tweaks x10. A couple places we had nada, flew in stuff no-one has or will ever notice.Except me.

  • @brodey19 Thanks, rock is better, just sayin'. Good luck!

  • This song always takes me back to Geno Michellini on 95.5 KLOS in Los Angeles! One of the songs he would play A LOT, on his Friday afternoon, "Bang the Drum" segment of his show! Those were great times!

  • @screwyootube1 We love LA and are still getting airplay there which is great. Planning a trip there in January...

  • @thekingsarehere Cool! I'd love to see you! Re: your note about Facebook, I'd be happy to spread the word to all of my FB friends, they are die-hard music fans, many of which would be interested to know you'll be in town!

  • This definitely was a pretty good 80's tune! Love how it segued from one song to the other.

  • Everybody now: THIS BEAT GOES!!!

  • If John Cusack had a band in the 80's and he was the lead singer, this is exactly how I would imagine it.

  • @digitizedmind None of us ever held a boom box over our heads outside a girl's house. Oh wait, that was a movie.

  • @thekingsarehere Funny....not sure if that would get the girl, but it would surely rock. Hey, just want to mention I was teen in the 80's in Chicago and listened to the WLUP. They played Switching to Glide all the time. Loved it. Great song to rock out to on a Friday after school or work. Anyway, never got to see you guys live which makes this video incredible to me. Fantastic job editing and putting this together. Great show. This song will live on another 30 years.

  • @digitizedmind Chicago was a great town for The Kings, and we hope to come back and play sometime soon. Glad you like our video, we are very proud of it.

  • I so love this song, especially cranked first thing in the morning while getting ready to go to school and teach. What a way to start the day!

  • ..Thank Gawd 4 U-tube, EVERYTHING about the time frame when this came out was SO much better than now...Why does EVERYTHING nowadays have to be so phucked up...and GAY lol

  • great song and nice work on the video

  • i like the bandstand footage.

  • @mattratt512 Thanks, it was a thrill to play on American Bandstand, and they were very gracious about granting us the rights to use the footage without over-charging us.

  • Dang, that's good stuff. Gives me Partyitis, it does.

  • @149PCE Thanks for the advice, it seems to be better these days, maybe the guy crawled back under his rock for awhile.

  • My Fave Happy Friday and Weekend Classic Rock Song to the Max! HOOAH!!

  • and even when your not :)

  • I remember when this album was out of print in the late 80s. I bought the last copy from a local record shop in Iowa City. Paid a premium too. I think it was $15! Great video!

  • I have been posting the line, "Nothing matters but the weekend from a Tuesday point of view", every Tuesday morning for a while, some of the younger ones wanted to know where it came from, so I have been posting this video on my page. I absolutely love this song, it KICKS ASS!!!!!

  • This was the new music of 1980, quite appreciated here in SJ!

  • love this song! Brings back memories of pilot training in Moose Jaw, SK when this song was on the radio....I miss those days. Thanks for the great memories.

  • @ATMCoord2 Oddly enough, I met a guy last night whose brother I know and he is visiting from Moose Jaw. Says he hears it there quite often, so that is cool!

  • @thekingsarehere I hear this song daily on Boom 99.7 in Ottawa...the volume always gets cranked way up!!!

Too funny about the Moose Jaw connection!!!

    Cheers!!

  • @thekingsarehere Yep, they play this song a lot on JACK FM in Regina. I love it!

  • Okay who's the idiot who keeps giving all these innocent comments negative votes?

  • @AeroRanger100 We have noticed this and so far there doesn't seem to be a way to stop it. But whoever it is, if you read this, please take your bullshit somewhere else. This is a video made by The Kings for our fans and we love all the great comments we get. We read them all. We don't need or want the negative vibes that this clown is bringing to us.

  • @thekingsarehere Calling it like it is, go KINGS!

  • Which DJ in the Washington DC area used to end his show with this on Friday's? I remember listening to it but can't remember who played it.

  • THIS! BEAT! GOES!

  • The ultimate weekend kickoff song! They use to play this on KDKB in Phoenix and in the break before switching to glide the kings would over dub with "Hi we're the Kings and switching to glide on the weekend with K D K B PHOENIX!!!!!! Can't get much better!

  • @crushfan76 Those were the good ol days in Phoenix!

  • I would love to hear RUSH do a cover of this.. You guys are awesome, and RUSH only covers awesome bands!!
