@greg23842384 it really depends on the paraglider and the size of the paraglider. With this regular wing it was around 1.2 m/s. With my current reflex-wing it is 1.7 or even more.
although the regulations are not crystal clear, but some wise men say powered paragliders have to report 4000ft+ flights before taking off, while while paragliders do not have to do that.
(stupid rule, I know).
So, I rather pretend to be a 'simple' paraglider :-)
I have a liquid cooled CRF 450 motor with a small turbo, all still hooked up to the transmission so I can change the gear ratio while in the air. 4 stroke is the only way to go these days
Good job, mate. I fly above 8000ft quite often, too (see my videos). It takes some time to get up there, but spiraling 2 kilometers down is worth of it!!!
Great! I'm a PPG Pilot with 90 hrs using a Top 80 in Puerto Rico- So far excellent engine!! Usually doing cross country but planning a high flight! How long was the climbing?
Cca. 1 hour, but I did not apply full power, and I spent much time with filming. Probably you could do it faster.
One note: if you have a fast reflex wing with higher sinking rate, top80 will not be strong enough to bring you to such high altitudes, unless you are thermaling.
do not worry, I felt just like you when I was up there.
Hanging on 2 small carabiners, while the terrain is seemingly not moving in the deep... It is the feeling of continuous falling, but the GPS and vario show everything is OK.
2 rules during high altitude paragliding: never look at your carabiners and never look down vertically (below your feet), but rather to the horizont.
awesome... how nice to have that glide at the end! i'd like to take mine to the max this fall...my launch elevation is 6,800'. i've been up to 9,500 but want to take to around 12,500 to 14,000. rate of climb gets progressively slower, tho'. cool vid!
From ground level (300 ft) to get to 9500 ft took me 1 hour (with a small 80 ccm engine, with 124 cm prop). Could have been less, but I spent much time on filming and taking pictures.
It was a hot summer day, and I put on warm clotches, so I was not freezing at 9500 ft :-)
whats Your average sink rate when engine is off in calm air?

not too cold, as far as I can recall. It was a hot early September day with a light wind, the best for such flights
