This song is incredible. Just amazing. Tears For Fears always has, and always will be my favorite band ever. This song is probbaly my favorite song of all times.

I meant to add that, if I remember my interviews correctly, this song was a semi-apologetic missive to the old TFF lineup, esp. Curt regarding some harsh words exchanged after one of their extremely populated South American tour shows in 1990 (or 91?) sparking the disbandment of the group. Those SA shows had incredible turnout; over 80k attending some events. I guess it really pushed the whole band to the limits.
@namokab71 yes Fish was about Curt. I imagine there were many dynamics at work in the almost overnight successful world-traveling band that was TFF; Goodnight Song really gets to the core of some of Roland's misgivings. Roland was always the more technical musician and perfectionist, while apparently Curt embraced the fame and popularity a bit two much for his liking. Despite their split, it was perhaps for the better, because Elemental and Raoul were both great albums.
great song. I really liked the Beach Boys tilt to this and several other songs on the album, even if it is rough around the edges at the beginning. 4 star TFF heart rippin at ya music.
@Ham247 I went to see them in concert in Philly right after that album came out and it seems that nobody knew the song. This one is one of my favorite on the album. Actually I love them all.
in my humble opinion this is the most Beautiful arrangement yet from roland and the band, no matter how many times i hear it the sound is still fresh and relavent.

@raoulandtheking ... nope, that song was indeed created when the tour ends. It was back in Bogotá Colombia, when the crowd in a very noisy and awesome concert ask for "Seeds of love" .. Orzabal played that once again, thinking that "old song" was "played soo wrong" ...
Sometimes, just sometimes a song gets written thats both lyrically and instrumentally so perfect, you know within a second your gonna love it. This is one of those songs!
I love this song!! No puede ser mejor!!! By the way, this beautiful piece does not elong to a terrible album. Roland never dissappoints and the album is the evidence of his talent. I heart TEARS FOR FEARS eternally... lol love being corny
I don't think it's a bad album. at all. but yes, this song is by far greater than the rest. except for breaking down again wish is the other great song in the album

He is hurt in some songs, mad in some songs, powerful in some, and nostalgic in this one. Have you listened to more of their music. They are the most awesome duo ever. Roland's power and Curt's mellow voice are perfect. That only happens in so few bands. We got to witness it.

Too bad Curt was not on the album. But everybody loves a" HAPPY ENDING" I saw them in concert about a month and a half ago. I had to wait 20 years to see them again live and it was worth every penny, and hurt. (I have a torn perinineal tendon in my foot. now. When I saw them 20 years ago, I had to surgery for TMJ and my mouth was wired shut. I hope that gives you an idea of how much I love this band.
@zweiosterei Listen again. Many of us were broken hearted because of the break-up. I bought the Cd listened to it once and did not bring it out again for years. Listen again and you will hear Roland's broken heart expressed in beautiful songs. Not a terrible album. A haunting collections of beautiful songs.
