We used to put messages inside them so when you look through the hole it says something. You just write it in the very center of the page before folding.

Even though the title mis-led me, its a common mistake. This is originally titled "Water bomb" for when made from other materials, creates a water balloon. But it is also considered the "Single-unit cube" or "Inflatable origami cube" as well.

my mom taught me how to fold it when i was small, but i forgot. but then i think your method is better, you folded the spiky ends into the pocket, so when you blow it up it wont unfold itself. smart.

its called a water bomb you can also make a bunny using the same method you do only one side tucked in then you make ears on the other
