@ThaiBettas Granted, but firstly you're not going to build big bulky muscles from push ups and secondly giving no give in the elbow joints like he is, is going to give problems in the cartillage of the joint.
To anyone thinking you're supposed to go down all the way; that's just easier. It's harder to go down, keep your arms straight and then bounce back up again.
Also, for people with wrist problems. Try some excersices to strengthen your wrists first... And if it still hurts a lot, wear something around your wrist like a bandage or sweat band.
@iratelyblank Doing plyometrics will train your nervous system to recruit more fibers, faster. Power = Force = Mass * Acceleration. It's best to do both. That's what we call powerlifting :)
notice how he isnt just pushing up and falling down... he is actually striking down into the mat with force as he comes down. word of advice to people though... if you do leg plyos... do not strike down like that very often... you will severely overload your hamstrings and tear them up
@burleytrojans: go for it - but this is a good start for beginners. if i showed this exercise with higher blocks, then most people would start too high.
i don't know if you can help me out i am 5'5 and 120 pounds i am trying to become a better striker right now i do boxing with my friends and since i am the smallest out of my friends i usually have to box people 30 to 40 pounds bigger then me and i don't really have that much power in my arms because i am small i either try to out-speed them and fight inside or ill try to sway and counter any advice for me
dumb ass, polymetrics are meant to be fast, not hard. You do these when your not tired because your gaining explosive power not strength. They shouldn't make you tired. If they do, stop and do it later. Your supposed to focus on speed, and repititions.
the pushups in this vid are actually very easy. I do the same thing, but with a medicine ball, and I also go all the way down. What's even harder is 1 hand pushups with a medicine ball. I understand though, that this guy can most likely do what I do, but showed these pushups simply for the purpose of demonstration.
Small and thin? Do you know K1? Heavyweight? Like Badr Hari or Semmy Schilt? Maybe only people from thailand are smaller, but thats their nature. Still they are some of the best fighters in the world.
hahaha who is this guy dana white? bro stop watchin the ufc and start watchin real shit like galaxy and k1. stop suckin danas dick. I cant believe he just said kimbo and Minotauro. Search for the real Muay Thai fighters like Buakaw. Hes a REAL fighter
yeah kimbo is a decent fighter but cro cop and fedor wud fuck his ass hole. i dont like brock lesner, his stupid tattoo, and tht he thinks hes the man.
Just a small warning to people at home who are going to try these. this is not an exercise that should be done by someone who isnt in very good shape or very athletic.
If these are done wrong they can cause severe joint pains and or problems with the joints because of the impact it can have on them.
nah - for this kind of 'reactive exercise', the point is to shock your muscles into explosive contraction. it's important to spend as little time on the ground as possible. for example, when you throw a punch, you want all your force to hit the target in the shortest amount of time -- a longer/slower push won't have much effect, 'cept maybe making your opponent mad...
I disagree with longer slower punches only making your opponent mad. You can use them like breaking balls or change ups. Throw some slower or more exagerated punches to misinform your opponent like fedor did to Arlovski then knock their ass out when they get cocky. Works great when drunks try to jump you, they think you are harmless but really you are tricking them in to being exposed in striking range.
@eatmyplanet: fair enough, and thanks for your thoughtfulness. Trickiness, deception, unpredictability are all important and so, long-slow punches can indeed be important 'tools' to open the door to doing real damage. but, strictly speaking, the real 'weapons' for such damage are strikes with cracking, snapping, whipping power.
@AlterCenter cracking, snapping , whipping strikes are effective indeed if your opponent is open. or if you strike somewhere vulnerable like the solar plexus, face or ribs. but crushing strikes are also effective too .. effective against defensive opponents who rather block your kicks and punches than dodge them. you could break their arms trying to block your kick if you have enough crushing power in your kicks. so snapping and crushing power are both vital in all types of combat sports
@AlterCenter I think I know what you're saying but I disagree with the way you said it. I think you're Basically saying speed = more power which is true, but just because a strike takes more time to get from point A to point B doesn't mean its a slower strike. If you're strike is only going a foot in distance it better get there faster than a strike from 3 feet. but the speed of each strike could be the same though the 2nd strike would have more inertia behind it so may have more force
@AlterCenter Also if we're strictly talking damage we could talk for days about the effectiveness of technique. Like elbows, knees, closed fist, driving the middle knuckle only forward for more impact. open palm strikes to the body for percussive internal damage or shin kicks vs heel kicks the list could go on forever. even a slow but powerful hammer fist if smashed into the windpipe is something you don't want haha. When I preform these I always try to explode of the floor as much as possible.
@AlterCenter Just adding to the convo here after a year but i just found it interesting that u both come have different techniques and from different backgrounds and im sure they both work. Neither are wrong and yet they are opposite, it is like most Martial Arts they are used in different ways, u cannot say that a Martial Art is crap because it may be used in different ways as others, it is all very clever. Respect for u both.
it's all about the quick bounce: teaching the muscles to react explosively in their most powerful punching range -- about 6" from arm & shoulder lock-out. you can go deeper if you wish, but make sure you change directions fast and dont spend much time on the ground
