i remember the first time i heard this song, as alot of people have said it sums up moving on with life.
the last big move i had was going back to university and moving back to my old home city, this song reminded me of this. dunno where i'm going, gonna see the world, gonna be somebody, dunno where i'm going, i'm stepping out
Perfectly sums up the apprehension and anticipation I had when leaving home (the negative concepts in the song describe that very accurately) to go to university. Only difference was I knew where I was going; I just didn't know what I was going to find.
"Don't know where I'm goin...gonna see the world....gonna be somebody...don't know where I'm goin....I'm just steppin' out". One of my favorite parts of any of their incredible songs.
SO if all you ppl who love ELO are out there why do i never meet you? this music is supernatural and those drawn to it are very special people. comming here i dont feel so alone now.
I've always wondered why this didn't become one of their really great ones..The notes in harmony when he sings "like a rolling stone" is simply incredible.
this song is about re-invention and re-birth. staring anew, and getting on to the next phase of ur life, and not letting things or people from ur past drag u down. i've needed it in several parts of my life. thanks elo!
Sure I LOVE all songs of ELO. But this is so underestemated and AWESOME: But you have to listen to believe me now and steppin' out one after the other for perfect music...
One word.....Fantastic !

The beginning of this song sounds like a riff from another ELO song: "Mission (A World Record)" (1976).

Another Beatle-esque tune. Sounds like it's from Abbey Road.

Most of "musicians" these days don't even know what vocoder was... f-you auto-tune...

Pure Genius....I've loved ELO since the 70's and I never grow tired of it. No body like Jeff Lynn.

I had this put in as my Graduation Quote in the Yearbook. Another 10 years from now, it'll carry as much meaning as when I wanted it put in.

Kelly Groucutt has stepped out. We will miss him. ELO was/is still one off the greatest ever.
Guys you were/are great!!!
Thanks for such touching and beautifull music.
My first record of ELO was Out Off The Blue. After 30 years, I still enjoy it as much as I did the first time i bought the record.
Superband!!!!!!!

I used to play this on my stereo every day just before heading off to work at Offutt A.F.B. during the Spring of 1981.
Ahh, the world was still so full of promises back then. With age comes disappointment, pragmatism and, if you're not very vigilant, extreme cynicism.
