  • It is a copy of the Fairbairn Sykes mark 3 fighting knife from the second world war . Great knife

    JOHN

  • Also say Gerber port oregon 97223 usa on sheath

  • I found a knife in my basement that looks like this. its old tho, has a leather sheath. Blade has a number on it 084172. anyone intrested in send me inbox.

  • Mark II Gerbers are the coolest knives in existence IMO. I am addicted to collecting them - which is dangerous considering the price on the older ones. If you want to see the wonderful history and details about these knives check out "militarycarryknives(dot)com". Everything you will ever want to know about your knife.

  • @CaptainObvious1970 found 1 in basement, inbox me if intrersd. 084172 on blade, leather sheath. looks old

  • I have 2 of these. I have a new one and one Vietnam-era.Ironically,I paid $75 for the new one and...wait for it...$50 for the old one.The guy didn't know what he had.He thought he had a beat up old knife you can buy new for $75.He looked at me like I was crazy for offering him $50 for his scratched up old knife with a ragged leather sheath.

  • i'm gonna get one of these... and make a custom arm sheath... i'm gonna carry it attached to my right arm when i wear long sleeve clothes

  • @T3hBAMFchann3l This knife is illegal to carry in many places around the country, even unconcealed. It's overkill too.Smith & Wesson makes a very nice legal concealable knife. The blade length is at maximum for legal concealment and it's single edged and sharp as hell. Can't remember the name but it's easily identifiable by it's odd shaped, flat blade design.Amazon has it.The Mark II,even on your hip,can get you an illegal weapons charge.

  • @stnwllstv i was just joking lol, is this smith and wesson knife a fixed blade?

  • @T3hBAMFchann3l Gotcha.Yeah,it's a fixed blade, like a little boot knife.Model # is SWHRT1.Nice little knife and it's only about $20 so if you "lose it" you haven't lost alot of money.I'm not a big fan of today's plastic sheath craze but it'll work.It has a quick release so you don't have to fiddle with a strap if you're in a pinch though. It's a China knife but they almost all are these days.Still good quality.

  • also, u can buy the nylon sheath for it, which is fucking awesome, has a plastic liner, can be drawn very quickly

  • it was used in Under Siege also, in that final knife scene, where the guy got stabbed in the head, didnt watch the movie, but i saw that part XD

  • They are issued in vietnam and made after 1966.

WW2 knives are made by Ka-bar (kill a bear) lol

  • this is the knife "the punisher" uses

  • @ColombianCasanova which movie?

  • @xIdrissax the last one

  • @ColombianCasanova I never saw him use it, I'll have to check it out

  • gerber makes baby food........ BLASPHEMY! BLASPHEMY DAMN YOU!

  • The Mark II is one of my favorites too- I have a "BA5" pattern just like yours (440C), not the current production "BA6" with the horrible chisel serrations (420HC). Although the knife is decent quality with acceptable fit and finish, it is designed for fighting and NOT for utility. It is not a full-tang knife, it has a rat-tail tang, and even moderate side-loading of the blade WILL cause (possibly catastrophic) damage to the knife. It is NOT advisable to use the Mark II as a thrower.

  • thanks for the review, i might pick one up

  • Hey great vid , would you be interested in selling that gerber.?

  • I love it even with the beat old sheath it adds character. anyone got one for sale?

  • yeah think it was Nam when this blade came out

I have one from 1979, dad gave it to me years ago

  • Correction

The design is1st rate, good balance, wonderful handle, very durable, the latest editions do not appear to be exactly like the models produced during 'Nam era when these really became popular

  • Designed during Vietnam NOT WW2

  • I have one. I have a lot of great knives and daggers and this on is NOT one of them. Not sharp, not special, crappy handle. I would sell it in a heartbeat.

  • @birthdaymatt All true- the blade is mediocre steel, the quality is just OK, and the handle texture is far too smooth. The Mark II's strengths lie in its design (a piercing tip, an adequately strong cross-section, and a long, narrow blade) and its perfect balance. Try balancing the knife with the hilt right on your index finger and you'll see that it sits there perfectly. This is why it's so fast and precise as a fighting blade, though it's pretty much useless for anything else.

  • @mrpinkbullets The 420HC is fine for this type of knife. It takes a good edge easily and will keep it long enough to do it's job which is to stab someone to death."Mediocre"for a wilderness knife that will get beat and banged but fine for a stabbing weapon." fast and precise...fighting blade...pretty much useless for anything else"--It's not designed for anything else.

  • Looks like a British SAS dagger

  • @Derail07

The reason for that is I think the british SAS use the fairbairnes-sykes fighting dagger on which the mk II is based on.

  • @Derail07 It's a near copy of the British Fairbairn-Sykes knife, but made by Gerber in US for WW2 American special forces.

  • The leather-sheath is much more better for a quicker draw, because of the position of the button-strap. The best one are these without the bag for your mentioned sharpening-stone. The nylon-sheath is almost useless for a quick draw. Believe me...

  • I bought a MK2 back in 1975. Thought it was an ok knife at the time. Was stolen a couple years later.Since then Ive learned alot more about knives and recently looked to purchase the new version. I cant say if my memory is all that good but I dont remember the knife being as bad as the sample I saw. The tang was short , the black oxide seemed designed to hide the poor blade workmanship, and the grind on the blade looked like a monkey took a grinder to it. The serrations were just awful,

  • My Mark II has a leather sheath without the pocket and the blade doesn't have that black coating. I think mine was made in the mid to late 80's.

  • FYI,Its the successor of Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife and was invented in 1966

  • lol "It's designed for pretty much one thing, and we all know what it is"

  • i have a knife that look just like this but it has explorer mm-iv on it....could you tell me is this is the same knife...

  • Can this knife be used as a survival knife? Ty.

  • @jannefredriksson It can, any knife can; it just wont work as well, say a bowie.

  • To clear up you guys it was first made in 1939 by some company by this general after a roman gladius and gerber only added a serrated edge and issued them in Vietnam as the best fighting knife of the time behind the normal issued knife for soldiers I was handed down mine today and can be used as a utility knife for cutting rope(and throats) and prying things open

  • these were popular in vietnam. the idea originated from a ww2 british fighting knife. idk if the original company was gerber that brought it out but all they did was give it serrations and they made the blade much wider.

  • beautiful knife! :)

  • gerber is a baby food compony but now...

  • @andrewscott95 OH GOSH! LOL They're different companies, Gerber makes knives...

    -Omar

  • I first heard of this knife in the Paladin Press book, "Hit Man Manual." The same book used for a Murder that went to trial. This was the knife the author recommended to buy for any aspiring "Assassins"

  • This knife was introduced in 1966:P I love the balance of the blade. Perfect for throwing:D Love it! Awesome review:P

  • in saw one of these on a website for 130 dollers i collect knifes but i wont buy a knife for over 50 dollers unless its a survival knife or a very cool looking knife

as for fighting knives i have a few guns so why would i spend over 50 dollers on a knife ide probly never use

and i use glocks so dont say omfg what if your gun jams or you cant get to it if im going to walk around with a fighting knife then imma also have my gun and a backup and ive never had the glock jam

  • i got this. yes it has two purposes, Kill and looks.

this guy bought his in High School so did i, i have had t since june. great knife, only my knife has larger serrated edges. also, the posters knife isnt sharp, if it was, he wouldn't be fondeling that blade, mine isn't as sharp as it was, but it slices rubber bands like rubber, and i have had gnarly cuts before.

  • i got this baby, and it is just perfect.

  • Good review. Have you seen the "Joker Special Huge Green Micarta Dagger - CM-10"? If not, Google World Knives Ltd. and click on "Daggers". The workmanship is excellent!

  • i got this baby today. it's perfectly balanced. the blade is extradorinary. it just feel perfect. i keep smiling when i hold it. the guy who sold it to me, he knew what he was talking about. he said that this knife(mine in particular) is the best he has ever seen from Gerber Mark II knives. I don't like the nylon sheath, GearBuyersGuide, i'll swap sheaths with you if you'd like. This knive is well worth the money you pay for it. i highly recomen it to anyone who is an outdoors man or survivalist

  • coolest knife in the world.. Used in Aliens 1986 by Bishop :)

  • @etphonehome2915

Really? thanks, a good excuse to watch that movie again

  • It is the part where Hudson says: "Do the thing with the knife".

  • the hook in the back is for the ALICE GEAR. The Alice Gear was used from Viet-Nam and then untill the 90's. now we use MOLE'(Molly) Gear.

  • Comment removed

  • It is a nice knife, but the one I once owned was never used. It could probably be used as a survival knife, but there are other knifes with much more equipment. And when you hold it, the weight indicates quality..

  • reintroduced by Gerber recently for only 70.00

  • @CutleryNovice

Really? awesome, thanks for the info

  • @CutleryNovice 79.00, actually :P

  • these were intorduced in the 1960s my uncle bought one and used it in vietnam he said many soldiers over there would buy these and then ditch theyre army issued blades for this one but yeah the only thing youd ever use this knife for is to well you know.....

  • they started in Vietnam when that was needed

  • Beautiful example of one of the best fighting knives ever designed. The only one I prefer is the Applegate-Fairbairn, because of the weight. But as a military fighting knife there are few other competitors. Thanks for sharing!

  • @icychap isnt that basicly a fairbairne skyes type fighting knife?

  • @bonerman115 Very similar... which is different from the Applegate design. The FS dagger was not so much a fighting knife as it was a thrusting weapon, like a bayonet you could hold in your hand. The Applegate dagger is a more universal fighting knife, useful for slashing and stabbing in a variety of ways.

  • @icychap ahhh i see either way i think they are both superb fighting knives

  • is that blade sharpened? the way you are throwing it around scares me =)

  • it's OK no one was harmed while filming

  • @GearBuyersGuide your skilled with knifes

  • @GearBuyersGuide exept for 4 people :P

  • @grantman234533 lol, hes had the thing since high school dude

  • it looks like a miny version of a sword lol

  • It's based off the Roman Mainz Gladius.

  • i actualy was issued this blade in 91 it is a damn fine fighter and to me it is perfect for slashing and yes i did get to use it

  • I have one of these. 'Cept it has a silver blade and a nylon sheath. :3 By far, my blade of choice, even over my swords. :P

  • Blade of choice for doing what, exactly? :P

  • Uhhh.... O_O' xD

  • The Gerber Mark II is a fighting knife manufactured by Gerber Legendary Blades from 1967 to 2000. Not world 2. its a pretty famous knife and getting an original that was made during the Vietnam war (thats where it was first used) can cost a bit. Not as much as a modern high performance knife but $200 easily. The last one my father picked up he sold for $200 +.

  • They are based on the Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife if I'm not mistaken. Great video

  • is the knife water proof

  • very much so

  • that looks similar to the royal marines knife i was on about
