13 is closing, too, btw, because it's been doing poorly.

I love Spring Awakening, I saw it with the original cast and I have all sorts of posters, books, and clothes related to it. It's run for tho years, which is a respectable run, won several Tonys and other awards, and a Grammy. It's not going to just die. But the matter is that all the performers and technicians need to be paid. And when you're only filling half the theatre, that's tough to do.

Let's be honest, Broadway has never really reflected the BEST in dramatic literature; it is about commercial entertainment. It has become a theme park, at best.

SPRING AWAKENING would have stayed an Off-Broadway hit, had a group of very aggressive producers seen a potential profit margin in it.

Step out of NYC and see a vibrant theatre scene exists in the other 49 states.

im going to have to disagree with that. broad way at least USED to show shows that made impacts on literatur, peoples lives, and society. like RENT for example. but i do agree that broadway has become commercial and that really irritates me.
