I've heard explanation that Chinese adjectives can be also used as verbs. So 高兴 can be translated as "happy" or "to be happy". But your explanation with "not equal" is much more reasonable. 谢谢 =)
I though "she(down sound)" means "is". Does it also mean that or only in "hai she" "also;is"/"or" as far as I understood form another youtube tutorial.
I especially appreciate the history behind each word and how they are put together ... this is helping me understand more every day! Thank you for sharing and look at all those languages!! You definitely follow your bliss.

instead of "highly excited," the perfect translation of 高興 is "high spirits," which is a phrase in english which means happy!
