Buster Posey Injury REAL VIDEO

Serious question here and I know there is an answer to it, but since collisions only happen at home plate, why doesn't the catch get up and kinda move towards the runner a bit kinda to try and tag him out before he even gets near home plate? You can't run off of the basepath to avoid being tagged so it's not like he could manuever around him or anything. Anyways this has never happened unless being in a run down so I'm sure there is an obvious answer, I just don't like seeing this type of injury

@chromal187 The ball typically gets there at exactly the same time as the runner when a collision happens... the catcher just doesn't have time to move out of the way. Catchers are trained to block the plate so the runner has a harder time getting there, but also so they do not have to go as far when attempting the tag. 9 times out of 10 though you'll see the catcher do exactly what you said, which is step in front of the plate, catch and spin around.

He wasn't standing over the plate. Cousins had a clear path to slide for home base. Top of that, Posey never even had a handle on the ball, therefore the collision wasn't even necessary.

I miss Posey.... He's lucky he didn't get a head or neck injury!!! I know that it's a common thing to happen to catchers, but in some views, it almost looks like Cousins deliberately tried to tackle him.

@BlueJaysNetwork Pause at 0:02, there is no way he can slide. There was no way to the plate and it was tied in an extra inning game, rough collision yes, but it is a very legal play. Now if it was Mike McKenry of the Pirates or Josh Thole of the Mets no one would've made a big deal about it. And furthermore the GM of the Giants should be suspended for baseball for life for basically expressing death threats towards Cousins a week or two after the collision.
