First of all, the joke in the video is about the time they have to take showers. If you look he makes a hand gesture and mouths implying "3 minutes". There are multiple people in the shower because there is so little time to take one. Homosexuality is only the butt of the joke not the inspiration. It is not a stab at gays.

You're missing the fact that this guy's in the military, where everything must be done in a particular, proper way - even tying shoe laces. It's called military bearing and it becomes more and more important as you climb the ranks, because a high-ranking military member is supposed to represent the prestige and honor of the military. Do I agree that the military imposes such strict codes of uniformity? Not always. But they have their rules and he clearly broke them.

High Brass and other branches have been trying for a century+ to make the Navy more PC, the last couple decades they've been making ground in that regard, not entirely bad, but you can go to far.
Before the 80's things like Naval Aviators in vietnam more than embarresed the more "structured and military" airforce in the air. At times the Navy held 13:1 air to air kill ratio's vs the Airforces 1:1 (even less than 1:1 at times) in the exact same aircraft/weapons.
Navy has been down sizing for a decade plus now, the capt will be retired and given a six figure a year pension with life time health coverage and insurances. He's far from the first to be retired over some goofey event.
Also, SWO's (surface warefare officers) have been gay since WW2, everyone that knows anything about the Navy knows the pilots are mavericks and SWO are gay.

Officers MUST be held to higher standards for enlisted men and women. If you set the bar for behavior at the level this joker is at, think what people under his command are getting away with. Aboard the enterprise these are the available routes to issuer a complaint: The chaplain, the command sexual assault victims intervention (savi) coordinator, the command equal opportunity representative (cmeo), the Legal Office (JAG's) the CO's, XO's, Command Master Chief's (CMC) suggestion box, and finally you can file a formal grievance on paper that goes to the CO

tyt i enjoy your videos normally, and i do not wish to appear hostile about this, but your facts are not straight. 1. the faces with the white blurrs were edited by the virginia pilot newspaper. the only "protected" identities that capt. honors was responsible for were the black strips that appeared over the eyes of two females that were in the shower with a cardboard cutout of Honors. 2. these videos were made in 2006 and 2007(not two years ago). number 3 comes in my next comment.

It is not known whether or not he had a good relationship with any homosexuals on his ship or not. It seems like he was a pretty laid back guy and he might of been okay with them and maybe in his mind he was just joking around and including them in the joke/videos.
With all of the people in the military who supported the repeal of DADT it seems logical to me that he was not trying to insult any of them.
To be fair I have not watched the entire videos so I really shouldn't comment.

There are a few points that people are missing:
a) he wasn't sacked, he was removed from a post where he was responsible for pastoral command of sailors (some of whom will be gay and some of whom were offended)
b) he dealt outrageously with complaints and completely out of line with USN guidelines
c) he was given an order to desist at the time

I am a 25yo navy vet and my last station was on another aircraft carrier from 2007-2009. I also had a XO, which is second in command, make videos for us while in deployment that were entertaining but for instructional purposes as well. High Brass and other branches have been trying for a century+ to make the Navy more PC, the last couple decades they've been making ground in that regard, not entirely bad, but you can go to far.
Before the 80's things like Naval Aviators in vietnam more than embarresed the more "structured and military" airforce in the air. At times the Navy held 13:1 air to air kill ratio's vs the Airforces 1:1 (even less than 1:1 at times) in the exact same aircraft/weapons.

Navy has been down sizing for a decade plus now, the capt will be retired and given a six figure a year pension with life time health coverage and insurances. He's far from the first to be retired over some goofey event.
Also, SWO's (surface warefare officers) have been gay since WW2, everyone that knows anything about the Navy knows the pilots are mavericks and SWO are gay.

This video is 3 years old and now after it became public that they navy is suddenly upset - and what dude wears a shower cap? - and last Ana not knowing the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek kind of kills the idea that she is an underground gamer. - but final verdict has to be that our military has to be allowed to have some room to improve moral and this video is not even that harsh. So I think Capt'n Kirk should be allowed to keep his job on the Enterprise.

It may be hard for some to accept, but the military does actually try and toughen you up. Although you might not know it from the horsing around, there is only on colour -- green. Officers MUST be held to higher standards for enlisted men and women. If you set the bar for behavior at the level this joker is at, think what people under his command are getting away with. I usually agree with Cenk, but I think he has got this completely wrong. The military has a long track record of discriminating against gay men (including bullying leading to some high profile suicides).
Would he be excusing this captain if, rather than openly being homophobic he was being racist? I think not,
Maybe to some people, references to "fags" as lesser men, effeminates and not capable of defending one's country is partly offensive and partly amusing. To me it is just offensive.
