@celestemoon Yes, it is! I couldn't remember her name until I saw it. I had a mad crush on her at the time - I think she was on E Street, too. Love the way she dresses, just like Sherilyn Fenn in Twin Peaks. "Gorgeousness and gorgeousity", as Malcolm McDowell said in A Clockwork Orange.
Very much so, a while back she was offering a special deal, if you bought x amount of her CDs she'd come to your house and give you and friends a concert!
Don't think that there's anything special about it, other than it's a happy clip. Compared to the lame /sex-addled/violent/retarded clips of today, this is a welcome relief.
i love this song reminds me growing up rural qld..this song holds a place in my heart...learning about love falling in love with my gf..it amazes me how music has an such an affect on us emotionally
The best!!!! It's just never ending, thank you, makes fairytales real to me, gonna play this if I ever get married again........ Gives me hope and love.
@alasyon Somebody got a bit confused I think - they were referring to "Man Overboard" (watch the vid if you haven't seen it, it's a great song and that bit right at the beginning when she cuts loose for the first time makes my hair stand on end!)
I woke up this morning and had this song stuck in my head even though I havent heared it in years and had to see if it had beedn posted... Glad to watch it again! I was probably bout 12 when I first saw the video at a friends house and remember him telling me it is his mum's favourite song.. And if I'm correct in remembering the other chick in the video was Colin Carpenter's flatmate in "The Colin Carpenter Show"! Good job! Takes me right back!
I beleive the other chick's name is Mary Jo Starr, she had a brief singing career of her own, and she was married to Paul kelly, she is in his "To Her Door" video clip. Cheers.
Yeah I agree its a great song mate .Reminds me of such great times as a younger person .....I am a bloke too I want to see her ..I think she plays at a place called on the greens its a whinery down where I live near Victoria every now and then..Good call mate take care :D
such a beautiful song and voice. i love the sound, the melody, the feelings it gives me. maybe not much else happened for do rei me, or deb conway, commercially but this song will go down in Aussie music history as one memorable track.
yep splintamike.. your right and the track 'man overboard' didnt get much airplay. not that it should have anyway. it was an awkward track that was not much use but for playing at home. even then i would rather play something else. always loved deb conway though.
'man overboard' was more of an underground sound that got into the charts thanks to Countdown and others. if you want to hear and oz track that shoudve made it but didnt, listen to 'i write the news - beargarden'
Yes Wendy Mathews is still alive and well ,She still performs at venues ,I see her regulary at an event called "A Day At The Green "an outdoor performance at a winery usually on a yearly basis. She still has it voice wise ,Great gal !!!!
@Oaklands17 LOL Wendy Mathews what was I thinking (I like Wendy as well) Yeah Deborah Conway still performs as per my original quote ...sorry for the mistake :P
Great song. Reminds me of much more innocent days. Reminds me of the world without mobile phones, txt messages, myspace etc... I wish I could turn back time and devour myself in this music knowing that everyone was not at the breakneck pace that we all seem to be today.
The story I heard about this clip is that she DELIBERATELY did a clip that didn't focus on her looking gorgeous, cause she wanted the song to speak for itself. Not sure how true it is, but it's a good story, anyway.
Wonderful song, and the absolute double of a girl I went out with for a while in my 30s...so close in fact people used to ask her if she was debbie conway...:-)
It was indeed her voice that went so well with Tracy Mann's face in Sweet and Sour. The tragedy is that Conway's first band, Do Re Mi, was destroyed by record company negligence. Still, I reckon she has a claim to being the greatest ever Australian female singer-song writer. And, artistic merit aside, her politics were impeccable.
Deb has been a favourite of mine for quite some time. But I didn't know about her back when this song was released, I had to rediscover this great australian music hidden from the rest of the world! :)
@nmartyn till You Tube got it LOL now our secrets out! When I was younger I chased this poor lady to everyone of sydney gigs for six months till I got her Autograph it wasn't till she played the Epping that I got it
i love this song but what a shitty video, just her on a golf course holding her hands and posing like a gimp :(

Dont forget that in 1985 DoReMe achieved top 5 sales with "Man Overboard" without any commercial radio airplay.
Thats an achievement.

I love Deborah Conway.
But it's not easy being a bloke.
The 'Man Overboard' clip was filled with images of women not getting what they want from their men.
This song starts with "I like the way you took advantage,.".
It's obviously welcomed and appreciated. But if it's not welcomed, he is up for a rape charge.
It's a fine line.
Once again, it's not easy being a bloke.
This song is enjoyed by blokes, too.
Because maybe this scenario might happen to them, too.
(Minus the minefield.)
naganokumas 2 years ago 2
Your interpretation of the phrase used here, perhaps, naganokumas. It's not a fine line - don't rape anyone and you won't be up for rape charges.
