  • i love this song but what a shitty video, just her on a golf course holding her hands and posing like a gimp :(

  • good job maho i like the song each time I hear it I replay it GO DEBORAH CONWAY YOU RULE!

  • "UNDER MY SKIN" DID PRETTY WELL ALSO.

  • @redback80 in what way?

  • great song. the music is similar to "luka" by suzanne vega and "just like heaven" by the cure, imo.

  • Love love love Deborah Conway - is that Kaarin Fairfax in the background?

  • @celestemoon Yes, it is! I couldn't remember her name until I saw it. I had a mad crush on her at the time - I think she was on E Street, too. Love the way she dresses, just like Sherilyn Fenn in Twin Peaks. "Gorgeousness and gorgeousity", as Malcolm McDowell said in A Clockwork Orange.

  • Very much so, a while back she was offering a special deal, if you bought x amount of her CDs she'd come to your house and give you and friends a concert!

  • isn't that Stig Weimiss from Colin Carpenter show ?

  • What a beautiful woman. Yes funny video clip compared with today but I just enjoy playing this and thinking what a woman!

  • Can't believe this is now 20 years old, man!!!

  • I almost took up golf when I first heard this!

  • Anyone remember Deborah Conway in the movie Running On Empty?

  • What a wonderful smile, such a cheeky wag! and a great song

  • she's so gorgeous

  • this was our song, now we have broken up and i am going insane!!!!

  • She looks so cute.

  • Love her,great song :*

  • omg its Kaarin Fairfax from the movie Young Einstein ..."where you blowin' from curly?" . Yahoo Serious: "Tasmania". Kaarin: "ooooooh"

  • @brilliantos OMG I didn't think anyone paid that much attention to Young Einstein.... "Marie, ou is thees barbarian?" "I'm a Tasmanian"

  • I love this song...but what's with the film clip? I seriously want to know the idea behind it.

  • @nogigglingmajor

Don't think that there's anything special about it, other than it's a happy clip. Compared to the lame /sex-addled/violent/retarded clips of today, this is a welcome relief.

  • Hi irondogo. Thanks for that. Sorry for the incorrect spelling. I knew I didn't have it quite right - hence the little '(sic)' after the name! :)

  • Hahaha. This was my favourite song when I was about 3.

  • love the song..bet she regrets those pants ! lol

  • I Love Debra Conway what a top chick

  • Great song--crap fim clip

  • It think the name of actress is Karen Fairfax. The bloke is Slatco Kasumavic (sic). :)

  • @deepeemark ....yep..karen was married to Paul Kelly

  • @deepeemark

is not Slatco but Zlatko Kasumović i should know as he is my cousin.

  • Lovely song, lovely voice.Great memories of my younger years in Melbourne

  • i love this song reminds me growing up rural qld..this song holds a place in my heart...learning about love falling in love with my gf..it amazes me how music has an such an affect on us emotionally

  • I am voting for John HOWARD.

  • Hey, 1:16ish mark...who is the shorter dark-haired woman? She looks familiar, I think she's an actress/comedian?

  • @melwynau Kaaren Fairfax.....Paul Kelly's ex partner. She may have been Colin Carpenter's flatmate if i remember well.

  • i use to go to city pubs and see deborah b4 she made it big. she is awsome, it was a long time ago..

  • jewish

  • The best!!!! It's just never ending, thank you, makes fairytales real to me, gonna play this if I ever get married again........ Gives me hope and love.

  • Always though this song made great use of The Cure "Just like Heaven" guitar riff.

  • @thegapputt01 And the chord progression!

  • Well done, I thought I was the only one who noticed the similarity with the 'Just Like Heaven' guitar work

  • Sorry, I take that back. She's on rage (Countdown) at the moment, and I got caught up in the moment.

  • There is NO reference to "pubic hair" or "penis envy", but there IS reference to "daisy chains" and "playing hide and seek". Filth.

  • @alasyon Somebody got a bit confused I think - they were referring to "Man Overboard" (watch the vid if you haven't seen it, it's a great song and that bit right at the beginning when she cuts loose for the first time makes my hair stand on end!)

  • she doing a concert in Melbourne in march and i so want to go

  • "Running on Empty" which she was in, was a good movie.

  • I woke up this morning and had this song stuck in my head even though I havent heared it in years and had to see if it had beedn posted... Glad to watch it again! I was probably bout 12 when I first saw the video at a friends house and remember him telling me it is his mum's favourite song.. And if I'm correct in remembering the other chick in the video was Colin Carpenter's flatmate in "The Colin Carpenter Show"! Good job! Takes me right back!

  • I beleive the other chick's name is Mary Jo Starr, she had a brief singing career of her own, and she was married to Paul kelly, she is in his "To Her Door" video clip. Cheers.

  • Yep your absolutely right! (Sorry I'm an internet Junkie!) Her real name is Kaarin Fairfax. Cool! cheers swaneefan1! I love remenising!

  • Yeah I agree its a great song mate .Reminds me of such great times as a younger person .....I am a bloke too I want to see her ..I think she plays at a place called on the greens its a whinery down where I live near Victoria every now and then..Good call mate take care :D

  • I am voting for John HOWARD.

  • All saints is gone.Get over it..

  • this is the best . my god cant you all tell.this is when the angelgets gifted . my god .i love it.

  • the caddie is fantastic in this, well done Zlatko!

  • I'm sure Deb would love to hear you say that....NOT!

  • Shes my friends mum

  • WOW.. AWESOME TRACK !!

such a beautiful song and voice. i love the sound, the melody, the feelings it gives me. maybe not much else happened for do rei me, or deb conway, commercially but this song will go down in Aussie music history as one memorable track.

  • Dont forget that in 1985 DoReMe achieved top 5 sales with "Man Overboard" without any commercial radio airplay.

    Thats an achievement.

  • yep splintamike.. your right and the track 'man overboard' didnt get much airplay. not that it should have anyway. it was an awkward track that was not much use but for playing at home. even then i would rather play something else. always loved deb conway though.

'man overboard' was more of an underground sound that got into the charts thanks to Countdown and others. if you want to hear and oz track that shoudve made it but didnt, listen to 'i write the news - beargarden'

  • I love Deborah Conway.

But it's not easy being a bloke.

The 'Man Overboard' clip was filled with images of women not getting what they want from their men.

This song starts with "I like the way you took advantage,.".

It's obviously welcomed and appreciated. But if it's not welcomed, he is up for a rape charge.

    It's a fine line.

Once again, it's not easy being a bloke.

This song is enjoyed by blokes, too.

Because maybe this scenario might happen to them, too.

    (Minus the minefield.)

  • Your interpretation of the phrase used here, perhaps, naganokumas. It's not a fine line - don't rape anyone and you won't be up for rape charges.

  • My fave song when I was 9 years old :)

  • is the singer still alive?

  • She sure is. I saw her play at an outdoor show tonight in Malvern, Melbourne.

  • @chaniwie

Yes Wendy Mathews is still alive and well ,She still performs at venues ,I see her regulary at an event called "A Day At The Green "an outdoor performance at a winery usually on a yearly basis. She still has it voice wise ,Great gal !!!!

  • @Oaklands17 LOL Wendy Mathews what was I thinking (I like Wendy as well) Yeah Deborah Conway still performs as per my original quote ...sorry for the mistake :P

  • @chaniwie

Well, she was "Alive and Brilliant" when she sang at "Shir Madness" yesterday.

    So yes. She is.

  • @chaniwie Absolutely! And still gigging in Melbourne. I believe she just released her 11th album! Amazing artist :)

  • @chaniwie no shit mate.

  • @chaniwie Yes

  • question: the lady with the black bob... i think she might be out of Bridget Jones's diary as the sooky-freind.. no?

  • Great song. Reminds me of much more innocent days. Reminds me of the world without mobile phones, txt messages, myspace etc... I wish I could turn back time and devour myself in this music knowing that everyone was not at the breakneck pace that we all seem to be today.

  • love the song. the clip doesn't do it for me though...

  • Hehe I completely agree with you EC, but the song is just pure 110% quality, so no one cares methinks.

  • plus one to that.. but at least she isnt wearing 2 scraps of sequined material, a gstring and gyrating against a pole surrounded by 6 half naked men

  • The story I heard about this clip is that she DELIBERATELY did a clip that didn't focus on her looking gorgeous, cause she wanted the song to speak for itself. Not sure how true it is, but it's a good story, anyway.

  • Wonderful song, and the absolute double of a girl I went out with for a while in my 30s...so close in fact people used to ask her if she was debbie conway...:-)

  • you lucky bugger.

  • ... the sweetest daydream

  • wow what a fantastic voice....lol whats with the golf :-) anyway GREAT

  • A true woman in every regard. Such a strong, confident and proud voice. Awesome.

  • She's gotta be close to the total package... her lyrics, voice, mind ... and looks...

  • hi deb, i want ya body.

  • She has another great song SWeet n sour !!! by the takeaways a aussie show from the 80,s She is GREAT!!!

  • It was indeed her voice that went so well with Tracy Mann's face in Sweet and Sour. The tragedy is that Conway's first band, Do Re Mi, was destroyed by record company negligence. Still, I reckon she has a claim to being the greatest ever Australian female singer-song writer. And, artistic merit aside, her politics were impeccable.

  • I agree she was great with s n sour and i agree with the rest your sayin.COOL!!

  • Thanks,I haven't seen this clip for years! What a great OZ artist.

  • What a blast from the past. Love it!

  • i STILL know all the lyrics to it. it was my fave song as a kid. Me, my tape deck, my hair brush and the bedroom mirror... good times, good times

  • great australia music hidden from the rest of the world!

  • not really, I'm in Sweden. :-)

  • really :) nice! Did you recently find this song or has it been a long time fav?

    cheers

  • Deb has been a favourite of mine for quite some time. But I didn't know about her back when this song was released, I had to rediscover this great australian music hidden from the rest of the world! :)

  • @nmartyn It been a long time fav ,what a great song turn the vol up.

  • @nmartyn It been a long time fav ,what a great song turn the vol up.Bring back the 70,80

  • Me too know and love her...from Italy!

  • @nmartyn true dat mate..if only the world could hav given great aussie bands some airplay..

  • @nmartyn till You Tube got it LOL now our secrets out! When I was younger I chased this poor lady to everyone of sydney gigs for six months till I got her Autograph it wasn't till she played the Epping that I got it
