Ok, for those of you saying that he's not an pretentious prick, just look at his shirt. It says, "Yes, it's really me." No more need to argue about his body language and how he threw his damn sticks, huh.
Yeah, he is an arrogant, drama queen! He could play though. A bit too busy for my ass. Could stand NOT to use every lick at every moment. Starts sounding non-musical and more soloish... play for the SONG!
He has a fast bass drum foot. All these gospel drummers do. Is this like a prerequisite !!!!! I never ever hear Metal drummers do single bass craziness ............ well except for Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden !!!!
@STIXAHOY Most gospel drummers play single pedal..... cause the genre doesn't demand double pedals like metal.... and maybe to some extent gives gospel drummers that edge.... seeing that metal drummers most times just flying into double pedal stuff..... But Check out Mario Duplantier from Gojira and Tomas Haake from Meshuggah dem boys feet KICK! :p
I agree he's not arrogant as a person. I know this because I've talked to him on at least six different occasion. Twice before joining Stanley band and at least four times after joining Stanley band. I've ran into him at a few jam session around L.A. and twice at Catalina, seeing Billy Cobham and Marcus Miller bands. He even stopped at my table of fellow Drummers. Every time he was pleasant and approachable, HOWEVER, when he get on those DRUMS ....HE.... goes from Clark Kent to SUPERMAN!
well when you play a song as intense and as fast as he did you'll throw your sticks for two reasons. 1) your tired and 2) your pumped as shit from playing such a badass song.
amazing!!! the job in the drums of people like them ( tony royster, thomas pridgen, eric moore, aaron spears and ronald bruner jr) its greate, the other planet!!!
@PoeticJustice05 That is very very biased....Bruner,Royster,Pridgen has definately shedded together and learned a lot from each other also they have VERY similar backgrounds theres no one better here. It's all preference
" ok i have nailed the dc thing, i have practised 20 years constantly.. now i am gonna threw my drumsticks away and sit on the ground 4 some rest finally... "
@princeofwoodbridge U guys are killing me w/ this dumb ish!!!!!!! WHO CARES who faster/cleaner/power/etc...., they're both great players doing what they do..........now go do what YOU do, work on your Own thing, Jeez!!!!!
MAn u guys are crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!! this dude is freakin amazing! I grew up thinking there was no body better than chris coleman who was my drum teacher, I'm good but this dude is freakn phenomenal. I dont know if he can get Chris but he can give hima run for his money no dat!
And by him throwing his sticks showed a sign that he is passionate about his playing and he is showing it from the beginning to the end of the song, Real musician would have seen that duh!
Funny to see how Ronald Bruner was cocky to drop his sticks, but Chris Dave was the MAN when he did it playing Flashing Lights @ an Erykah Badu soundcheck. ... just an observation ....
first of all, why is someone deemed a "hater" if he/she didnt like what someone did? Its called having an opinion. I'm not a hater, and although a guy like bruner can do what ever he wants after a show, --- still makes him look cocky and arrogant after throwing his sticks, it was distastful - no doubt about it, -- i've seen so many drummers live Weckl, Steve Smith, Marcus Baylor, Cobham, Lathham, Chambers, Garibaldi, Beauford, & many more, never have i seen them arrogantly thro sticks like that
Saw him last night with Stanley Clarke, Hiromi and Ruslan Sirota! Amazing! Amazing! They're on tour right now. Check Stanley's website for tour info if you want to see them. All killer musicians! I don't think there was one single person in the audience eho wasn't absolutely blown away. Oh, and about the "arrogant" comments that someone posted? I met him, and he seemed like a nice guy, and seemed excited about playing.
Can't wait to see this guy with Stanley Clarke and Hiromi here in Toronto in a couple of weeks! As much as I like Stanley's "Jazz From the Garden", I'm hoping this lineup will do some heavy-handed killer fusion live, which they obviously excel at!
I know Ronald. He's always thrown sticks and stuff like that. On a jazz concert of mine, he stood up at the end and held his throne in the air. (Funny to watch the video now.) He's always been good, too. It seems either people love or hate him, but you have to admit he's got ridiculous chops. I miss playing straight ahead jazz with him- you can't help but be fire up by his energy. You could never get him to play a ballad without looking horribly bored though! Haha!
I personally dont mind the stick throwing. Being a showman is a part of what makes the successful people in this artform successful. If everyone did it the same, we'd never know who did it better right?
WTF's with all the hate? I bet if were there live you wouldn't have said "good solo but you ruined it with how you threw your sticks on the floor". Also the whole point of playing chops is to show off, you need to be a bit arrogant.
The world is full of haters. Someone will hate what you do until the day you die but its our job like Bruner to not let it phase you. The people talkin smack now have haters so its nuthing new.
everyone is hatin on him!!! so he throws his sticks, did you ever think being so fast ur hands might hurt or cramp? you deffinantlly aint no drummer. I throw mines down when I go to fast.. So get a bigger cup for your HATER-O-RADE...I bet ur not as fast as ronald

@ColdToiletSeats He's just having fun man. Doesn't mean he's being cocky. I see that stick throwing thing as more of a personal high five or a burst of energy. Nothing wrong with a little excitement.
hey if most of you were this good you might end it the same way. I don't get how you think he's an arrogant asshole because he threw his sticks. I throw my sticks all the time for no fucking reason, it's something you don't really need to bring up. just listen and enjoy, stop making assumptions.
he is, certainly, an arrogant asshole. not because he threw his sticks, listen to to how he talks about himself, arrogant as fuck. it's not like we're telling you new information, it's common knowledge he's arrogant as hell.
@disgustopated He's the opposite from arrogant. I had the chance to meet him and he was totally the opposite. He's a great drummer and you shouldnt post shit like this if you dont know it for a fact.
@arobdrummer - it's the WAY he threw it after the show ... it was like he was saying - Yeah, I'm the shit lol - it's one thing to be good - but after that display at the end - it's called BODY LANGUAGE ... he could of bowed instead, right? we already knew he is good... but he apparently, thinks he's better LOL great drummer yes, and apparently, he very much KNOWS IT as well, or atleast the BODY LANGUAGE tells us so...lol - I throw sticks too, but not like that lol
@robdrums69 hey man i mean no offense by saying this, first and foremost, im just giving my take. being a serious percussionist, especially one thats far too overly critical of myself, i feel like the stick throwing he did there was not out of arrogance, but out of disappointment. the look on his face and the way he dropped the sticks, to me, looked like he wasnt pleased with his playing, as all drummers are at some point in their careers.
Very good drummer.... You can hear in his playing and see it in his set up that he is Lenny White's biggest fan......Do you think he listened to romantic warrior much..... I wonder if he has Lenny in his circle of family and friends call anytime plan . Sounds Very good ... not knocking him just check out Romantic Warrior by Return to Forever if you want to hear where his style came from. An excellent drummer for sure.

dude, i have a fraction of his chops( but trust and believe i have chops) and when you finish a monster fill you feel like dropping the sticks and walkin away. it takes a lot outta you. its kinda like running a sprint and when you get to the end sitting down to catch your breath. you gotta shake it off.
he reminds me of dennis chambers a lot!

dude, i have a fraction of his chops( but trust and believe i have chops) and when you finish a monster fill you feel like dropping the sticks and walkin away. it takes a lot outta you. its kinda like running a sprint and when you get to the end sitting down to catch your breath. you gotta shake it off.
