You made me realize "You're So Vain" is gone from my Favorites box! I assume it is posted somewhere else (where are Killa's original vids, anyway?); but I love youTube because it's not just an in-group of fans, it's a huge community, and all sorts of people share and watch.

WMG is "myope" as Anna says: this is free advertising for them. (I've bought songs because I heard them here first.)

I was upset to see "You're So Vain" gone, too, but I can live with that - Killa took her vids offline after they started appearing on YouTube without her permission, and she probably won't mind what's going on here now. What breaks my heart is seeing entire channels emptied by WMG. Or even worse, people giving up and deleting their videos themselves. Of course, I don't blame them - I blame WMG for ruining the spirit. So much joy lost simply because of their greed!

It's technically very easy to dispute the claims, but the "fair use" clause written in pre-internet days is notoriously obscure - personally, I wouldn't rely on it. As much as I'd love to see "uncommercial fannish use" officially upheld as fair use, I think in the current situation it's simply up to YouTube to resume negotiations with WMG and offer them a better deal. To my knowledge, the rest of the big music companies get their fair share from YouTube for letting us play with their "products".

WOW! This video is so argute! (in italian I thought "fine", but I couldn't find the perfect conguruence of the word in english). "Not available in your quadrant" is the apotheosis of genius! This video is really funny, cute and sweet! I smiled all the time!

BTW the problem is for the vidding "community": indeed the most of entertainment is sharing and watching toghether! Companies are myope: some people started watching TOS or listening to some music after watching fanmade music videos!

It was fanmade vids here on YouTube that re-kindled my TOS enthusiasm, too, and unless someone has the space and patience to put up a video archive like the one for K/S fics, I don't think we'll ever find ourselves another video community that would be this lively and (until now) user-friendly. And here it's been so wonderful to meet also non-slashers like you!
