That wasn't water. Those were chemicals for sure. Some type of nitrate. There is a nitrate that is pink, but I don't remember what it is. I know it's not copper nitrate though.

Great track, like pretty much every track from Sonic 2. It's really impressive how much they pulled off with what limited technology they had back then. Even today, when we have so much more ways to create music, it seems video game music has just lost what made it so great.
