@Vapor419 haha, it's actually Eric wo hits that one at the end. I hit the G below to give him support the way a 2nd trumpet player would for a lead trumpeter's last note. Not that I couldn't do it tho... on the next video I post from that concert, eric and I play his version of the Bach 2-part Invention in D minor, and I play the Dizzy Gillespie lick on A Night in Tunisia all the up to an altissimo D, ending on a C#. Keep ur eyes open for it! And thanx for listening :-)
@wwjdwithca thanx for the kind words :) that's a good question. I haven't found many metal alto mouthpieces that aren't too thin of a sound for me. the farthest I'll go from the sweet meyer sound is a beechler hard rubber, but changing from the Yamaha to the Unison Artist Alto i'm playing now made SUCH a huge difference in my sound, even more than a mouthpiece could've.
@Kevinthrw haha, i don't think any self-respecting saxophonist can deny there's Bird ALL OVER our playing... i'll never be ashamed to have my name in the same sentence with Charlie Parker!
I say that you both did an awesome job on sounding very in sync with each other as well as the solos too! I honestly like the way Marienthal solos in all of the tunes he plays and he definitely nailed the feel in this song. Great job guys.
Woah....don't like either of their sounds for this style. David's sound just needs work in general and Eric should stick to more funk/pop/rock material.
@prechadou Ok, I'll check it out....I stand by my opinion though. I didn't say that their solos were bad. I just think David's sound needs work. An Eric is better suited playing pop/funk, etc.
Dave, this is great! I had no idea you had videos on youtube...so cool to see you on here, it's about time! Now it's time to join facebook....and yes, Aspirations is great too! loved it. See you soon! Lulu
If you guys like this one, check out my new one, Aspirations, an original I wrote for a great young saxophonist, Sam Gendel, of Los Angeles. He was my former student. The video is featuring my new band, including latin jazz heavyweight, Mark Levine! The audio is not great, but it's just a little preview on the things to come!
Obrigado! De onde e? Brazil? Eu gosta a musica do Brazil, de Tom Jobim! Eu canta tambem, com palavras portugues. Em o futuro, vou ir por uma novo video uma bossa nova, possivel chega...
Thanx, ModernSax! what a dream to play with one of the major cats who shaped my early years. After Sandborn, I transcribed his stuff with the GRP All-Star Big Band when i was in High School. He influenced not only my solos, but also my lead alto playing in the big band. He was so cool, made me feel like an equal, though he's really on the level of the greats! I think his attitude makes him even more great.
Don´t worry mate. You rock. I mean it. And don´t think you have to compare yourself too much with others. That´s a thing or a problem that pro´s get at least after 2-3 years. :-)
Thanx for the kind words. It's hard not to take comments like that personally, since our music is such a representation of our inner self. Thanx again, and keep posted for some upcoming stuff with my new band featuring Mark Levine!

I love this! For how much Eric Marienthal is known for his smooth jazz, no doubt he can do it all. Great video, thanks for uploading.

David, ur a tremendous player, sorry for the disrespect that shallow people will provide. One question, why not a metal mouthpice?

I think Marienthal's sound is much better, although I know a lot of people might disagree, I think david's sound is a little prematured...

I agree. I like Marienthal's sound a ton better. But they are both great players.
