  • I can eat a lot more than that, but that portion size is now my 3 meal size without the effect of hunger, split equally and eat super slowly savoring all the flavors every 3 hours 6 meal a day. Weight loss through exercise and weight training, is only a small part of weight lost transformation, the majority of it is through good eating habit, that's why the french are mostly fit. 1 lbs of body fat is 3500 calories, by eating slow you feel full with few calories = weight loss;)

  • It is a lot better when you use "plates for eating slowly"; they stay hot for "30 min plus" to keep your food warm while you enjoy. Google them

  • Thanks for this comment. It is very interesting because it highlights the responses we have to things that lie below our awareness. We might eat more quickly if the food is getting cold and less appealing, but we may not be aware of that aspect of our behavior. Interesting!

  • Nooo! Eating food HAS to be as quick as possible, when in a closed competitive

    enviroment. Don't you have a competitive enviroment?

  • That's a very widely employed Buddhist practice to use eating as a meditative process and exercise in bodily self-awareness as well as a chance to study attentively the intricate web of existence and co-existence.

    Mindfulness can be applied to any daily activity, but eating is probably the easiest place to start.

  • Makes me think about what happens to me when I meditate. I try to empty my mind of all thoughts but inevitably my mind begins wandering. Carl Honoree spoke at Primo restaurant in Rockland, Maine as part of PopTech. The Slow Movement also takes into account how the food gets to your table. For example, at this restaurant they grow many of their own herbs, vegetables, honey, even pigs in the land behind the restaurant. Emphasizing a more deliberate and holistic lifestyle.

    But "mindful eating" is a good term. I just dare not do that, as I do not currently have the resources to eat food that doesn't give me a bad conscience. :(

  • Very good point. Harkens back to the 'whole family eats together at supper' time. Not to mention the combo of fast/slow eating I enjoyed at the Spaghetti Factory w/you and the others. Good food, good convo. Btw, THANKS for making me hungry ;-) Have a safe holiday.

  • Very interesting...I hadn't heard of that movement. And frankly, I never put any thought to that.
