This is the definition of charm with a capital A....I could kick myself for not seeing her live. She was a S.F. regular performer. I'll have to get her CD.....so wonderful!
Loved Blossom for 50 years. What other artists can take a simple ballad, accompany themselves, sing in a whisper yet let us hear every word and swing like mad.
Thank you Youtube for enabling us not only to hear her but also to see her again.
There's never been a big band that swings as hard as Blossom alone with her piano---TIME! She's the best. What a gift from God---the only singer I'd rather hear than Mel.
I think this was a live gig that Blossom did at the Ballroom in the Village. My wife and I and a Blossom fan-friend went there and I heard her for the first time, and talked to her at intermission. What a wonderful woman, with so much talent and who gave her listeners music they will always remember. Bless her.
Ronnie Scott's was a jazz club in London. Ronnie was a superb saxaphonist. Check him out here on youtube. One of his best performances is of "On Green Dolphin Street."
I love Blossom...saw her in December 2001 at Danny's in New York. She was utterly splendid...this was just a few weeks after the 9/11 attacks, of course...and she obliquely referenced them and then sang a song called "It's Alright (or Okay, not sure) to Cry"...stunning...she was a true original. Getting goosebumps remembering that evening's performance.
"its alright to be affraid" is the song. She gave me and my lover both CD's of the single when i was talking to her and told her how he just found out he had HIV a few days before. A good friend of mine was her assistant. I saw her right around the same time. RIP to a a flower that will always be a blosoom.
Thank you for posting this. I have such fond memories of seeing Blossom perform in NYC a few years ago. She is truly one of the most original voices we've ever had in popular music. She'll be missed.

I am only 36 but I can't get enough of Ms. Dearie. From schoolhouse rock into adulthood, you continue to influence me.

"RIP to a a flower that will always be a blosoom" That line is classy and at the same time it brings tears to my eyes.
