i think alot of them came from britain, just like we did. i guess there some french, too. but my point is that canadians had been there for roughly 200 years, so they definately had the opportunity to build a militia capable of defending themself without british aide, just like we did. so unless you consider yourself british, and if you do i am wrong and i apologize, i do not see how you can say "we kicked their ass" when it was clearly the british and not the canadian militia, that won the war.
First off, there wouldn't have been an ivasion of upper and lower Canada had the American's not declare war against Britain. It would only seem natural that the British send aid to help maintain part of it's own British empire. There were only 350 Brits when General Isaac Brock defeated General William Hull.I disagree with you that it is a known fact that historians beleive that the local militia had nothing to do with the victories they had.
Also, Many Brits decided to stay in Canada where they raised families and are just as much a part of this country as anyone else here. Queen Elizabeth is still our Monarch.
