Our world is better because of Vaclav Havel. A quiet man who showed the world that humility, intellect, creativity, passion, and a love of jazz could change the way we deal with each other. He is my hero (my only other one is Thomas Jefferson...I think they'd have loved meeting each other). I am very sad to see him go, and to realize that there are only a few Vaclav Havels every generation. Thank you for making the commitment to justice, order, intelligence, joyfulness and caring, thank you.
“Without a global revolution in the sphere of human consciousness, nothing will change for the better in the sphere of our being as humans, and the catastrophe toward which this world is headed — be it ecological, social, demographic or a general breakdown of civilization — will be unavoidable." At Christmas 1989 I was in Wenceslas Square. I never felt the same emotion: peace, brotherhood, love, joy and freedom. A fraternal embrace from Italy to the people of the Czech Republic. RIP Havel.
As the global breaking news environment steadily grows ever increasingly competative the BBC still proves it's superiority in terms of over all quality.

@suopiskelija I am from Czech Republic and I know, what was a monster. He released murderers from prison he razed czech economy, he supported war in Yugoslavia. First, try to live in the Czech Republic and then express, poor retarded man
@20coyote11 well... i live in cze, you "smart" boy, so do you think i deserve to express? :))) my meaning has not changed anyway... nobody deserves rot in hell, neither he nor you, althoug you consider in the way you do...
@theredraven Don't exaggerate. You know nothing about the history of Czechoslovakia and Czechia so stop talking gibberish.
Havel's predecessor, Communist president Gustáv Husák had many mistakes, but certainly wasn't a "Monster". By the way, during Husák's era NOBODY was murdered by Czechoslovak state. Of course, this doesn't mean that there wasn't state oppression, but the artificial creation of contrast between "communist darkness" and "democratic brightness" (= Havel era) is ridiculous.
@jarlRiess your comment made me laugh out loud :-D This is where my attention to your "gibberish" ends. Don't bother reacting, I won't read your nonsense as life is too short to pay attention to people like you. RIP Mr Havel. You will remain the hero of all normal and good hearted Czechs.

shocking sad news, you will be missed forever, R.I.P.
I met Vaclav Havel during theVelvet Revolution at Uni, he came to meet the students; I was sitting maybe 3 metres from him, his charisma was intoxicating, his personality just absorbed you
During the student strike I met a Dutch journalist, he needed an interpreter (he had one allocated by the communists but he wanted a ''pure'' student). It was a total coincidence that we met & I got the job. Next day we went to interview late Olga Havel, Vaclav's first wife (yes, lucky me) There we were.. Olga Havel, the journalist & me, just the three of us in their living room (no, Vaclav wasn't at home). I was simultaneusly interpreting & didnt even have time to feel 'nervous.. I was 20 :-)
@SiggyStern yeh it was a special experience, one that just happens/ strikes you/ you're at the right plave at the right time.. I was 20, for the first time in my life I felt like things -really- mattered... kinda being part of -history being writtten- (without thinking about it, just living it..) it's hard to explain it just felt worth it
He trully had charisma! and I feel he was one of the best and most honourable politicians internationally.....would more politicians be like him,the world would be a better place, I am very sad to have heard about his passing, he was a very special and good man.
Peace to his soul! and my condolence to the Czech people!
R.I.P. one of the most significant persons of end 20th centrury, one of the most significant persons of czech nation ever and one of the most significant persons of democratic europe, rest in peace...

Udělal jen to, co považoval za správné a mi Češi i Slováci mu můžeme pouze děkovat a vzpomínat na pana Havla ve vzpomínkách.
Odpočívejte v pokoji Pane Havle, protože Vy si to zasloužíte.
