the first ever 'northern soul' sound I heard. Many people knock it but I think it's down to personal tastes and memories lol. We all love being taken back 30 40 years? Can remember shuffling along nicely to it often .
I have been into the "scene" for many years and there are many po faced idiots who prefer to diss people , rather than encourage, Enjoy the music we all love and tell the idiots to f**k off. To answer the question,,"Keep the Faith" --- in Northern Soul..
@motown60s I sorry but I see there are so many enthusiastic and knowledgeable people on here I just thought someone would know the answer. Is that another way of saying, 'Keep the faith' - calling someone a fool for asking a perfectly innocent question?
i was a teenager many years ago in macclesfield england, i used to listen to radio caroline, it was great it inroduced me to soul music witch at the time was banned on the british radio. i love this song and lot's of other northern soul. l went to wigan casino a few times. i live in the usa now. lets keep northern soul alive.
One of my lifetime faves.......totalheartstring puller and easy dancer to get your breath back between millionmile a minute stompers.......Ktf to all that were there
@JackMDT8888 reading your comments, big respect brother, like me you were there witnessing something special never to be repeated,if we could get a tardis, if only for a day, to take us back to that special place, it's never going to happen but we have the memories and that's what matters, probably passed you a hundred times..k.t.f brother and hey feck DR WHATSON
Dance, dance, dance... The Northern Soul way... God I miss those late 60's and early 70's more because the music at the Twisted Wheel, The Mecca and the Torch was so goooooood!!! Rambo Ramsden
I remember two people from Wolverhampton who drove all the way to St Ives Cornwall instead of St Ives Cambridge. LMFAO. Great memories, pass the duraphet this way please.
love this song from my youth club dayz 1974..14 yr old then went to ryecroft club at newcastle -under-lyme .. does any one know them dayz ...buster jones . screwy bolton me even lol..tina heaney..as was
To Torch: Well, her brother , Larry Henley did more than a "winky dinky wing dang do" with Wind Beneath My Wings". Can you agree? she would have been great too if she had been promoted and not confused with the black singer Barbara D Mills.
@trackieben American and British Hickory promos + issues (The British promo is the holy grail) Boot legged to death so be aware if purchasing a copy...
Superb haunting vocals, I can just hear this echoing round The Casino, hairs on your arms standing on end, tingles down your spine, there is nothing else as good as Northern Soul.
this song makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck!!!! It takes me back to so many wonderful places in the 1970s - The Central Soul Club Leeds; The Sovereign on a sunday evening near Huddersfield; Wigan Casino; the Intercon Wakefield......
it was one of the sounds that made me fall in love with northern soul.
This takes me right back to the Northern Soul Club in Leeds - mid Seventies with Twink and Frank dee jaying What heady days they were, we were young and free!!
one of my all time Northen Soul songs too young to go to wigan casino but Queens hall in widnes used to do Northern Soul Nights for the high school kids so we didnt miss out
I am from Manchester England I love this song. I had it on a 45 yrs ago. I'm so happy I found it again. I live in the US now and nobody here knows anything about northern soul, they don't know what the're missing. how ironic.
I am from Manchester. They have opened the Twisted Wheel again ( one Friday night session and one Sunday Afternoon session) it gets packed to the rafters...they play all the old songs and they play this song almost every time...one of my all time favs too : ) I think a lot of the artists don't realise we still play these tunes.
Where in the US are you. Some of the soulies go over for Motwon "tours" Kev Roberts organises them. I live in Australia now and we have a Northern Scene over here, mostly ex-pats. This was playing when I walked in to my first Soul night in Australia, and I knew it was the real deal! I had this record and someone nicked it!

narkydjh, i couldnt agree more with your comments. I dont understand all this ill feeling, from different era's, venues, clubs etc, i love northern soul, be it from clubs in the 60's 70's, the only reservation i have, is the sound that started to come through, which reminded me of a disco/funk sound, but i still appreciated how good it was. there is room for every one out there, we dont have to be rude to one another. best wishes jacqui
Here we go again Chewy, the untouchable torch crowd. I was a Wigan regular from 74 onwards. The best thing was when the sightseeing " old guard " vanished up their own arseholes, you thought we should look up to you because you were older, and had visited other soul clubs, coming to the odd nighter looking down your snotty noses. YOU thought you invented Motown !!!!!!
Just found this after, well after many years and a lot of water under the bridge, But wow time travel back to happy days 1975, Cheltenhan (uk) the only northern soul club in the south- brilliant
simply fantastic - cant stop listening - want to jump and waltz around the dance floor northern soul style , unfortunately just had cartialage ops on both knees must have been all those back drops all those years ago!!!
This was playing when I walked in to my first soul night after a break of 20 years. I just went straight onto the dance floor and remembered every beat!
this is a defining moment in the the soul of the North. The Northern Soul. Proud and enduring. The sound and lyric drills right into the bone like nothing else.
reminds me of my good old soul mate Karen from Lancaster she loved this and youd allways catch her dancing to this in Mr Ms, those were the days!! sigh!!! hope your ok Karen if you log in here. xx
Well im the queen of fools oh so they say Yes this half is the part needy only yesterday but now look at me and you will see the lonely but proud queen of fools And Im the fool they talk about yes im the one that your heart had last You'll now look at me and you will see the lonely but proud Queen of fools well now the heart that loved you so yes the one that cared the most, you finally let go so now take a bow,and we'll propose a toast to the lonely but proud queen of fools
This is SO the best version...........its got everything.......and for all you are surprised I think about 15 to 20% of all out favourite taks are by white artists......who have the same soul heart that we do......KTF
hey just another thing i never realised barbara mills was white. if you find her on google there is a pic so far removed from the voice?/ great voice, really do need the words if anyone has them
