  • @sepyoukey For starters, every ball lightning in nature video ive seen, were floating in mid-air. Second, just like fire, it rises up. Whatever it is made of, the molecules go up, just like fire. l've also seen a water discharge plasmaball, which was floating, the microwave plasmaball is also floating. By all means, l cant say this is ball lightning. l'm pretty sure one of the characteristics is that ball lightning usually floats..

  • @codyjohn1551 What does plasma float upon? Why does something float? Is all ball lightning the same?  What makes up ball lightning? If ball lightning is a plasma, then it is electrically charged. How does that influence its behavior? Keep asking questions.

  • @sepyoukey ...You think l invented plasma? lf it floats it floats. Every kind of fire floats too, the molecules rise up, blue, red, orange, purple, green, yellow. Every form of fire floats. Google it, and you can see the characteristics. l'm not trying to put things down here, but you gotta accept that this isnt ball lightning. lf anyone can correct me, please do. This is simply a heated sillicon that creates glow vapor.

However, I don't think you know the first thing about ball lightning. Nobody needs to correct you because you've given nothing factual to correct, blue, red, orange, purple, green, yellow.

  • I really appreciate all the comments.  I especially like the ones stating that plasma isn't affected by gravity - those sound REALLY intelligent. And you experts on ball lightning: glad to meet you. In my research I couldn't find any consensus about what it really is. But I'm glad that you know everything about it. Keep up the good work!

  • Ball Lightning can also be created when rocks are crushed together. Like when there is an earthquake and the tectonic plates move against each other, crushing rocks between, and whamo, ball lightning is made.

Super heated Silicon creates a glow vapor.

  • that honestly does look like plasma but if you have the two crossed here is a semi useful answer...Ball lightning is when electrons travelling at abnormally high speeds (even for them) intersect they start to weave through eachother and create an overlapping electromagnetic field that keeps rejuvenating itself until the core electrons sway out of the inside and disappears. this electromagnetic field is very fragile and it can release its pent up energy very, very easily.

  • ball lightnin is a myth thought up by sceptics,light emmittin UFOs or intelligences is what thousands of people have seen & referred to as bein UFOS or an intelligent object.

    im 37 & writin a book about UFOS cause ive seen nearly 20 UFOs comprisin of 6 different objects.

    I've seen 3 kinds which appeared as light emmitting objects.One is bright white light,a other a fiery like ball bout 20metres across, the other was blue coloured 1.5metre globe that had clear smaller globe in middle.

The house was nearly hit by lightning, then three or four giant sparks, about the size of grapefruit, came through a closed window, bounced off the floor and disappeared. Nothing was damaged.   • Ok, first just re-read what you just wrote and tell me if it makes any sense to you. Second, the first documented case of laboratory ball lightning was at least 100 years earlier. In 1753 Georg Richmann was killed by it. It blew him right out of his shoes. Poor fella.

  • I studied Physics & was a Boilermaker/Welder. Place a very shallow, white pan- a lunchroom tray,perhaps?- filled with water on the floor in front of the square tube frame. That probably will catch what we call welding spatter- tiny incandescent balls of near molten metal forming slag pellets, much, much smaller than their "fireballs". You'll find 1 (one) mm. oxide balls in the bottom of the pan. There's plasma in your video,but probably not dancing around on your floor- only in the arc. Sorry.

  • I don't really know anything about plasmoids or ball lightning, but the sparks in the video seem significantly bound by the force of gravity. Other clips of (microwave) plasmoids, seem to defy gravity significantly. Also, the stories i"ve heard of ball lightning seem to imply that it defies gravity as well. Am I wrong? if not how do you account for gravity's affect on your sparks?

  • Yeah, I don't know how many times I have to write this, but there is no natural focused microwave source outside that would make the microwaved plasmoids a good representation for nature. Plasma has mass. Gravity acts upon mass. That is how I account for it.

  • Well, first, I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to by "famous ball lightning incidents," but certainly, the naturally occurring ball lightning could be plasmas. Though, they are probably formed in a very different manner than say, the match in the microwave plasmas.

  • I'm talking about incidents in which a sphere of light suddenly forms, act erratically and last for several seconds. As for the homemade plasma, since it moves about within the microwave and dents the interior, this implies that it could be very similar to ball lightning in terms of its formation and overall structure. I'm not saying that microwaves are involved in the formation of natural ball lightning, just that the factors and environment could be very similar. Sorry if that was redundant

  • yeah it's the same thing but there's much more electromagnetism in the atmosphere so plasma can be formed from gases rather than more condensed things like solids.

  • If those were plasma, why would they be so clearly under the influence of gravity? What you've set up is your basic arc welder, and you are spitting off little balls of super-hot slag.

  • I disagree. We saw a distinct difference between the slag and the plasmas balls. Why wouldn't gravity affect plasma, which is made up of matter? And there are clearly other forces involved, as you see the plasma jump higher when it's by my leg, than when it's by the cable.

  • Plasma is energetic ionized gas, and unconstrained is "lighter" than the ambient air. Plasma would not cohesively bounce around like water dancing on a hot skillet (like hot slag). Meteorites leave trails of plasma, which quickly dissapate and don't bounce to earth. Real science demands rigorous control and methodical removal of bias--things jumping higher off your leg is neither. The simpler explanation given just the video of apparent arcing across metal and bouncy things, is hot slag.

  • There is much information available to be researched about plasmas, in general, or ball lightning, specifically. While plasma may be created of elements that would make them lighter than air at sea-level, most elements, including many gases are heavier than air. Plasmas are created all the time in laboratories, industry, and nature that do not instantly float away. The meteorite analogy is so far off base, that I don't even know where to start, though I mean no personal offense.
