Indian Air Force- Indigenous Fighter Jet - Tejas - Part 7

The indigenously designed and developed Kaveri Engine was successfully flight tested on an IL76 by DRDO yesterday during the Flying Test Bed (FTB) Trials at Gromov Flight Research Institute (GFRI), Moscow, Russia.

K9 version of Kaveri engine was tested from take-off to landing and flew for a period of over one hour up to at an altitude of 6000m at a speed of 0.6 mach on its maiden flight. The engine control, engine performance and engine health during the flight were found to be excellent

Tejas Mk1 Initial operational clearance by early 2011

Indian air force has ordered 40 Tejas Mark 1 and Indian Navy some more Tejas mark 1.

We are also looking at 100 Tejas Mark 2 for Indian air force and at least 50 Tejas Mark 2 for Indian Navy

In total, we are looking at least 200 to 250 Tejas for both Indian air force and Navy for both mark1 and mark 2 versions.

Next step is AMCA (Advanced medium combat stealth aircraft). I hope kaveri gets ready for this twin engined beast.

LCA took time, money and endeavour from some of the top brains from India to become reality but at the end it is spectacular fighter plane with some distinct features(27 patents are proof).Experience gained in this project will proove handy in MCA project.

hopefully relations between India and Pakistan will not become completeley unhinged.clearly this is one of the worlds hotspots and both nations have nuclear weapons.sadly from the perspective of the West,the perception seems to be that it is better that these nukes are pointed at each other.the west would really be horrified if Pakistan pointed it's missiles to America or Israel.my gut tells me that Pakistan is politically unstable and could lead to the unthinkable.

Exactly. Very few countries manufacture these engines - China isn't even trying at the moment, but they have plans for the distant future.

No reason for us not to get fillers until the real stuff is made.

The LCA is a wonderful achievement, and gave us lots of experience, but we are seriously lagging other countries. President Kalam is right in saying that we should focus on the cutting edge stuff only - treat the LCA as a (hugely expensive) stepping stone, and move the hell on.
